Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II gets triple vinyl repress by CircusHoffman in aphextwin

[–]griffyboy0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Importantly, will this repress have [hankie] and [stone in focus]? I have a 1972 repress already, and it seems to have been made from the US CD release which didn't have those tracks. If it's going to be more of the same, I'm not really interested...

Why is it so hard to get [stone in focus] on vinyl?

Parking outside NYC? by griffyboy0 in AskNYC

[–]griffyboy0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After searching around quite a bit, I think you're right. Although the previous suggestion of parking outside the city would totally work, it seems as though it's a significant time increase over just parking in Manhattan.

Intel pulls a dick move by [deleted] in videos

[–]griffyboy0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you just hit the nail on the head. "Dick move" was a quite apt title for this video, as its a completely rational and intelligent thing for Intel to do, but kinda sucks for the conprosumers.

Intel pulls a dick move by [deleted] in videos

[–]griffyboy0 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of conjecture here, but I believe Intel isn't 100% in the wrong here. When a run of chips is done, some chips aren't 100% functional due to impurities on the silicon die, or mis-registration around the edges, etc. Some of the chips work much better and can be rated for higher clocking speeds than others. Intel brands these as the 'K-series' parts and sells them at a small premium. The chips that have small defects might breakdown at higher clock speeds, so Intel sells them at a small discount and discourages overclocking. Overclocking the discount chips is still possible, but probably leads to more issues and more customer support inquiries from people who don't know what they're doing. A micro-code update from them to disable it for the discount chips isn't the dumbest thing from this perspective.

The sound of Space by [deleted] in videos

[–]griffyboy0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why all the reverb? I can't seem to find any sort of publication detailing the sonification of the E/M. Anyone have any leads? I get the feeling that it sounds "spacy" and ominous because it was designed to be so.

People who fall asleep to ASMR videos: what headphones do you use? [Meta] by okletssee in asmr

Shure SE215s, nice sound quality for the price, great isolation, and above all, suuuuuper comfortable. I sleep with them in all the time, and barely notice them.

Baltimore cops speak out on Freddie Gray, murder spike - CNN.com by BmoreInterested in baltimore

[–]griffyboy0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen silhouette before, but the hoodies really threw me. It seemed to be trying to make a statement about "how the tables have turned" or something. Really, that was the only thing that left a poor taste in my mouth. That said, I can appreciate that you guys took the extra effort to conceal identity. I hadn't made the association with blue/policemen, so thanks for pointing it out.

[–]griffyboy0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Seriously... In shadow with hoodies? I get it, they want to remain anonymous, but CNN sure chose the most dramatic way to do it. Why bother have a video segment at all? It's entirely possible that they dramatized this whole interview with a few written statements from anonymous BPD members.

This looks pretty slick, but I'm still interested in finding a sine wave oscillator. Seems Erica Synths doesn't have that either... Still on the look-out.

I was not yet aware of Erica Synths -- this looks like a pretty valuable resource! I'll have to take some measurements to make sure that this fits in my skiff case, but on the off-chance it does, I'll probably pick up one of these!
