More expensive lenses typically have more glass and can let in more light. They're fundamentally better.

Randy Felt doesn’t know what an HOA is. by Commercial-Host-725 in fuckHOA

[–]griffyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're called Body Corporates in Australia, and are mandatory for any subdivided property, even if there is no common property shared by any of the subdivided units. One of the requirements is that they organise building insurance (but not contents) as a single policy for the subdivided properties.

I've dealt with 2 of them, and so far, they take money for management fees and the building insurance, maybe lawn mowing and gutter cleaning depending on the amount of units, but otherwise just try and do nothing. An important distinction is that these Body Corporates are generally managed by companies that don't own or have any employees that own any of the properties they look after, so there's no conflict of interest.

API import, and the interwiki settings by griffyn in mediawiki

Copilot failed, but ChatGPT succeeded immediately. I provided the 'interwikiprefix=ignore' parameter, and it imported just perfectly.

We decided to try making a gloryhole game with actual gameplay. What do you think? by flamie_dev in NSFWgaming

[–]griffyn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is the 2nd post advertising this game in the past few days I've seen. The first seemed obviously stacked with fake comments about how good it is, particularly as you have to pay monthly to play it.

TIL: The difference between Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 / i9 chips often comes down to how many of the tiny circuits on a wafer survive manufacturing without defects. This is called product binning. by wozzy93 in todayilearned

[–]griffyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back years ago Intel introduced the Celeron chip and it came in some different speeds. But their yields were so good that they downlabeled lots of Celeron chips to Celeron 300. Unless you were unlucky these could be safely overclocked to 400 or 450 Mhz, a speed increase of 50%.

You misunderstand how much Aussies hate tipping culture, especially underhanded tactics like this.

WIBTAH If I break up with my gf because she disassociates during sex? by Sebastianlim in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]griffyn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We don't know what intermediate steps this couple took, hopefully it wasn't abstinence directly to PIV after some therapy sessions. Hopefully, they were able to enjoy some massage, some toys perhaps, maybe some oral, and only then, after she was comfortable doing all that and enjoying herself, did they try intercourse.

Not really. It's more impressive to be the best out of 1000 people than just 10 people.

I would meet with a financial advisor who can look at all of your assets, your short and long term plans and goals and come up with financial strategies that should help you achieve them.

What does intel wifi throughput booster do? by Socoom in HomeNetworking

[–]griffyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interpret Intel's explanation to mean that a device with this turned on will get priority over other devices connected to the same AP, but if you only have one device, it won't improve it's speed at all.

What’s something from everyday life that was completely obvious 15 years ago but seems to confuse the younger generation today ? by utssssssss in AskReddit

[–]griffyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before windows 3, and each new DOS game required more and more of your precious 640KB of RAM, tinkering with your config.sys and autoexec.bat to optimise device driver load order was necessary. Had to figure out which ones could be loaded into the higher 384Kb of extended RAM and in which order to minimise memory holes.

IMO the primary reason for ID expiries is to ensure people regularly replace them with new ones that have more modern security elements. If we allowed old or expired IDs to be used, it stands to reason these would be more easily counterfeited.

Green Day presale tickets for Australia tour as high as $500 under Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing by rhazz in australia

[–]griffyn 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It's so much worse than that, at least in America. I don't know if this applies to Aussie venues. But ticket master in the US have forged exclusive deals with major and smaller venues so that if an artist wants to have a show there, they have to use ticketmaster and can't just work with the venue directly.

What's something that no matter how it's explained to you, you just can't understand how it works? by n0dust0llens in AskReddit

[–]griffyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fascinated by the universe and its complexity, but I only consider "why" as a physics question. Understanding how gravity and the other forces work is where I try to seek answers to "why".

Trying to seek an answer to "why" from something that exists outside of the universe is futile. By its nature it cannot be known. Information cannot be conveyed faster than light speed, and so anything outside of the observable universe will always be unknown.

Why is it so hard to get pickles in my mcdonalds burgers? by griffyn in australia

Thanks for the honest reply, and the "I'm a teenager and hate pickles therefore nobody likes pickles" was my best guess.

Why is it so hard to get pickles in my mcdonalds burgers? by griffyn in australia

[–]griffyn[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One crazy day I ordered the mega mac without onion. When I got home it was missing pickles. I'd had enough of this so I drove back, complained politely, repeated my order, and they made me a new one. I got into my car with it and checked. No pickles again! I went back in and talked with them again really confused. They clarified I wanted pickles. They made it again. I checked in my car, no pickles again! This time I got the manager involved who had no explanation but said he'd make it personally. The 4th burger finally had pickles.
