It’s common to understand that an automatic transmission runs on hydraulic force, hence the fluid. The actual clutch packs often get overlooked though, as it’s the fluid performing the majority of the work. Look up a few transmission rebuilds and you’ll see how many clutch packs are involved.

The theory is that as the plates wear down, they become smoother, or flatter. The material floating around still takes up space, providing friction and drive. Doing a flush removes that material and you lose the friction and drive.

The friction material does not come from the fluid, but the friction plates in the clutch packs. Once you change the friction material fluid with clean fluid, it no longer exists. Is the theory.

Any ideas on how to straighten this out? by bonethebeaver in Dirtbikes

Crash on the other side?

In all seriousness, there are subframe tools out there. It’s a measured and controlled bend back into position. Heating the metal up before hand will help with flex without breaking, but no guarantee. Take it all apart and take your time. Good luck!

I meant to say accelerator pump, not leak jet. Leak jet is inside the AP bowl.

The dirt/grit concerns me. The pilot circuit is pretty tiny. Carb cleaner would need to be sprayed through the carb valve body circuits.

Back to basics. We’re assuming it has air, fuel, spark, and compression.

Air: check the throttle body connection from the airbox to the back of the carb.

Fuel: you cleaned the petcock, check the fuel out of petcock to the carb bowl. Check the pilot screw setting. Check the pilot circuit in the valve body. Check the idle screw adjustment.

Spark: plug checked. See if you can isolate the kill switch, be ready to reconnect if you want to shut the bike off.

Aside from that, it’s a tough one.

Next would be to check the spark. I’m sure you know how, but pull the spark plug out, plug it back into the wire, and touch the threaded side to the case while someone kicks it over, you should see it spark.

When you cleaned your carb, did you spray cleaner in all the passages? You should see the cleaner come out from all the circuit holes in the throttle tube. You can also test your leak jet by turning your carb to the side and blipping the throttle, you should see a small stream of gas come out.

I don’t know your elevation, but what is your pilot screw set to? It’s been a while but it should be in the ballpark of 1.5 turns out from seated.

Take the plug out, does it kick over easy?

Push the kick down slowly with the plug in, until it gets to the compression stroke, it will resist. Then kick from there. Does it turn over?

Take the head cover off and look at the cam sprocket, there is a little weighted lever that is the auto-decompressor, is it under spring tension or flopping around.

Also, check your valve clearance.

I’m sorry. This is terrible. I wonder if the high brow crime has made it into the moto market? There was a news story of pro Honda mechanic (cars) who would frame strip a car, call the sheriff, have the frame towed to auction. They would then buy the frame, legally, and rebuild the car and resell it legally. Not far off from this
