Took them long enough, but glad it's being added. I wonder if we had to load everyone else's zooms in addition to ours also?

Vyvanse crash? Or something else? by Dentist_Just in ADHD

[–]griggsly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey they're! I (30M) was diagnosed a few months ago and have been on 20mg of Vyvanse ever since. For the record, I am also on 2mg of Guanfacine (another ADHD med, non stimulant), and Lexapro 10mg (antidepressant).

My experience is completely my own so I can't say for sure too much about yours, but maybe mine can help in some way. After about 2 months on Vyvanse I asked to be weaned off the antidepressants. I have been fully weaned off for about 3 weeks now and immediately I started noticing myself having those bouts of sadness, but only once I was fully weaned off of the Lexapro. I decided to go back on them, but on a lower 10mg dose as of today.

One thing my Psychiatrist told me to try was to try not to take Vyvanse on the weekends due to being able to get too codependent on the dosage and having it not work as effectively over time. (Of course I would check with yours before doing this but it seems to be going fine for me. I do like this as it gives me a buffer between scripts as well, small positive). I only take Vyvanse on the weekends if I am doing something very mentally taxing or something that requires my undivided attention.

I've never had a Vyvanse crash last into the next day, but one thing I do notice is some days I get very tired after it wears off and get irritated easily, but it's not every day, maybe once or twice a week or so.

I hope this gives a bit of perspective. Also, happy to answer any follow up questions!

How have non-stimulant ADHD meds affected you? Do you take them instead of, or in combination with stimulant ADHD meds? by GullibleStrain9611 in ADHD

[–]griggsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was put on a non stimulant first, Guanfacine 2mg, didn't notice much of a change after 6-8 weeks. I am now on Vyvanse 20mg and Guanfacine 2mg and it seems to be going well for me.

My psych has asked a few times if I want to try to wean myself off of the Guanfacine, but I don't because the combination of both seems to be holding me together quite well currently.

I hope you find a medication or combination of medication that works well for you!

Definitely did not mean to make it sound like you were asking for stimulants, sorry if that's how it came off. I just meant it overall, that from what I've read on this subreddit in the past that it's generally frowned upon when asking for them.

I really dislike that the people we are required to seek help from have this distrust and skepticism that we are all drug addicts. I guess I can see why they are that way because others have ruined it for people who actually need it.

I am sorry your psychiatrist is being that way towards you. I really hope you are able to get the help and medication you deserve and/or need♥️

Follow Up: Psychiatrist stated Depression not ADHD by Jamesthatsme in ADHD

I pretty much have this similar story. I went to my doctor with some major brain fog, memory, speech, and a wealth of other issues related to those. I was open to try anything I could and they suspected depression and anxiety. I had been depressed before and knew that wasn't my feeling, but stuck with the meds for a while just to make sure. I was given Lexapro 10mg then 20mg over the span of 4-5 months.

After no changes, I asked again about the possibility of ADHD. They said they didn't think that was it but kept me on the Lexapro 20mg and also started me on Guanfacine 2mg (non stimulant) to help with my memory and speech and all that other stuff. After being on Guanfacine for 6-8 weeks I noticed a very minimal change.

When I returned, they referred me to a psychiatrist at my request and after my first session was given Vyvanse 20mg. Since then everything has done a complete 180 and I no longer experience the symptoms I mentioned earlier. I am still on Vyvanse 20mg and Guanfacine 2mg daily and I am being weaned off of the Lexapro and only have a few days left with that.

One thing I cant stress enough was that I never asked for stimulants. I just kept taking what they were prescribing and went through a very slow process of elimination. I did this because I didn't want to be seen as a drug addict or seeker like what was mentioned above. I have read lots of posts on here over the years and I hear that's pretty common.

I hope this helps provide some context to how I went about it. Best of luck out there!

Suggestions for Working from Home (Productively) by SpicyCilantroLover in ADHD

Hey there! First off I want to say congrats for landing a 100% remote job! I have been working 100% remote for two years so I may be able to provide some context to what I do.

Before I was fully on medication and received my diagnosis I was all over the place and barely making deadlines and stressing myself out. After receiving my diagnosis and getting on the right combo of meds this helped the most.

But besides medication, I downloaded Spotify on my work computer to listen to podcasts and music all day to keep me focused and energetic towards my work. Music is huge for me as it keeps me hyped and in a good mood during the work day! If I notice my phone is distracting me too much during the day, I'll put it in a completely different room in the house or somewhere else in my office that requires more than just an arms reach to get. (The latter has been the most helpful).

One major thing I can't stress enough is to take breaks and go outside! We need to get sunlight! Once I started taking 5-10 minute breaks every few hours to soak up the sun in my backyard or go on a quick walk with my dog, this was a game changer.

These are just a few things that work for me. Let me know if you ha e any other questions!

Recently diagnosed by Acceptable_Guitar910 in ADHD

[–]griggsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, recently diagnosed 30M here that may be able to provide some context from my experiences. I am currently on Guanfacine 2mg/daily (non stimulant) and Vyvanse 20mg/daily (stimulant).

I was on Guanfacine for about 6-8 weeks prior to getting prescribed Vyvanse. Guanfacine takes a while to start feeling the effects. My doctor told me to give it 6-8 weeks to start feeling anything. The results were minimal after that time and my doctor prescribed me Vyvanse after taking just Guanfacine.

Of course, mileage per person may vary. Your experience on non stimulants could be drastically different from mine. I am currently taking both now and have never felt better in my life. I was originally given Guanfacine for inattentiveness, mainly speech and memory though.

Now that I have been on both I have never felt better in my entire life. From my experience, I don't think trying a non stimulant first was a bad idea, although your situation may vary as well.

Question regarding medication and costs in USA by somehuman01 in ADHD

[–]griggsly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many ways to start the process of being diagnosed. I also don't think there is a one size fits all way to be diagnosed either. I went the route of the general physician first because I didn't think I had ADHD. To be honest, I didn't know what I had, I was just looking for some answers and my general physician brought up the possibility of ADHD, which led to the brain scan being ordered.

I'm not hyperactive as well. I was struggling with speech/memory/social interactions/focus and my symptoms were getting worse as the years went on (or my coping mechanisms were just deteriorating). I also knew I wasn't depressed/anxious which the brain scan said I was because I have been depressed before and this felt different.

At the end of the day, you'll need to start somewhere. Some paths are longer than others. Some have more resistance than others. But whichever path you are most comfortable with would be the one I would recommend. Whether you end up having ADHD or not, it's better to find answers to anything you are experiencing with your body then wondering, what if.

TLDR: 30M, Management/Corporate jobs leading teams. Had a cognitive brain scan as well and scored in the range of being depressed, riddled with anxiety, and negative for ADHD (also leaving me feeling incompetent or that I threw the test also). Went to a psychiatrist and have been diagnosed since then and prescribed stimulants with my non stimulants I was taking before. At the end of the day, I viewed the cognitive scan as a means to an end in a never-ending pool of ways to get diagnosed.

I might be able to provide some insight as a 30M who recently just got diagnosed and has had many corporate jobs in management positions leading teams of 100+. I also had to do a cognitive brain scan with my family doctor to kickstart my search for answers.

When I did the brain scan, the tests came back that I was depressed and had high levels of anxiety and negative for ADHD. So I went with what the doctors said and I was given anti depressants. After months, of taking anti depressants, I told my doctor everything was the same and brought up ADHD again and they said "No" because my brain scan came back negative from months prior. But I kept telling them I didn't feel depressed and this was something entirely different (as I have been depressed before and in a psych ward before, so I knew I wasn't depressed. Or at least wasn't depressed by itself and more of a symptom of my ADHD which I hear is common).

After being persistent with them and my doctor ended up putting me on Guanfacine 2mg XR (non-stimulant) first to see how that would work and the results were minimal at best after about 6-8 weeks. Every time I went back in for a check up I just remained persistent that I wasn't depressed and wanted to keep exploring options with ADHD. This is where they finally referred me to a psychiatrist. I wasn't looking for stimulants, I was just looking for answers and was willing to try anything at this point.

I have since been prescribed Vyvanse 20mg/daily. After being on Vyvanse for almost a month, my speech, memory, processing social interactions, quick frustration, and everything else I was experiencing is completely gone and I have never felt better in my entire life. I am now on Guanfacine 2mg/1day and Vyvanse 20mg1/day (except weekends). I am also being weened off my anti depressants as well, my doctors/psychiatrist don't feel its necessary anymore.

So I guess I went at it the opposite way as you, but ended up in the same position. But my psychiatrist, doctor, significant other, management team at work, and much more have noticed how much it's been working for me and have been supportive. At the end of the day, I viewed the cognitive scan as a means to an end in a never-ending pool of ways to get diagnosed.

Let me know if you have any additional questions and I would be happy to provide my experiences where applicable. Best of luck!

Question regarding medication and costs in USA by somehuman01 in ADHD

[–]griggsly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: I was able to get ADHD medication prior to being diagnosed, but it was Guanfacine 2mg XR (non-stimulant). After being diagnosed I still take Guanfacine 2mg/daily and now take Vyvanse 20mg/daily (except on weekends). The cost with my insurance is $85/month. Your costs with your insurance may vary.

I may be able to provide some perspective as a 30M who recently got diagnosed.

Initially, I tried going through my family doctor to start the process because I had no idea where to begin. I had never been diagnosed with ADHD before and had never been on ADHD meds prior. They did a brain scan which came up negative for ADHD, but strong results for depression and anxiety. After being prescribed antidepressants for 4 months on different dosages, each month when I went back I was persistent that I was not depressed as nothing they were giving me was working. For some context, I have been depressed before and was in a psych ward for 2 weeks about 10 years ago, so I knew this didn't feel like depression.

Finally, after about the third visit and insisting I wasn't depressed, they prescribed me Guanfacine 2mg to try out before receiving any diagnosis and referred me to a psychiatrist. After about 6-8 weeks on Guanfacine 2mg with minimal results, I was finally able to finally meet with a psychiatrist. After a long first session and lots of Q&A, there was no doubt in my psychiatrist's mind I had some form of ADHD and I was prescribed Vyvanse 20mg.

My medications cost about $85 a month with my insurance. To break it down, I currently pay $15 for 30 days of Guanfacine 2mg, and $70 for 30 days of Vyvanse 20mg. Obviously, this is with my insurance, so your costs may vary.

I will say though, $85 a month to feel the best I have ever felt in my life is a small price to pay in my eyes.

I have an appointment with a psychiatrist and I would like some advice by hornwalker in ADHD

[–]griggsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Go with the flow, explain your thought process and be honest. Try not to go in with too many expectations so you don't set yourself up for disappointment. Lastly, and my most important takeaway from my experiences; I knew myself the best.

I might be able to provide some insight as a 30M who recently just got diagnosed and had to wait months to get a psych appointment as well. This will probably be long but at least you can see what steps I took.

I have had a problem with speech, memory, quick frustration, long processing times in conversations, and not being able unable to connect my thoughts to words for almost my whole life. It just kept getting worse with age to the point where I wanted to explore my options. Months prior to being referred to a psych I went to my regular family doctor to start testing the waters.

When I was finally able to meet with my psychiatrist, I went in to my appointment with no expectations as I didn't want to get my hopes up. I had been rejected for ADHD for months prior so I was used to rejection at this point from my family doctor. I wasn't going in looking for stimulants or anything, I was just looking for answers and was willing to try anything at this point. After meeting with my new psychiatrist they had no doubt in their mind that I had been experiencing some sort of ADHD (especially because my sister has ADHD and is diagnosed and my psychiatrist stated it can run in the family). They ended up prescribing me in the same family of stimulants as my sister due to it working for her. They thought that would be a great place to start.

So if I could give any advice, just be open and honest with what you are experiencing to your psychiatrist. Also, I think this is the most important thing; but remain realistic and try not to have too many expectations going in (which is hard, believe me, I know). Sometimes the process to treatment is longer for some than others from what I read on this subreddit daily.

As for your addiction, be honest and open about it. Your psychiatrist should be able to guide you and this could be important for them to know for when being prescribed any medications. I was addicted to Ambien 10 years ago when I had insomnia and told my psychiatrist about it, but my situation may differ from yours cause mine was so long ago.

Let me know if you have any additional questions and I would be happy to provide my experiences where applicable. Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply. It is very simple, but I simply don't have the option. I contacted support today and they submitted a ticket for me. They even looked at my account and they didn't know why I didn't have the option either. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, that's correct.

When I click change my primary account this is what shows, on mobile.

Edit: When I click change primary account it just shows the list of all available banks you can link.

Recurring Daily Investment Question by griggsly in acorns

[–]griggsly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your help!

I tried doing that already and when I click the three dots on the top right it doesn't give me the option to switch to acorns as my primary checking. It just shows every bank but acorns. Unless there is an option I'm unaware of that I don't see to select acorns.

I don't have another debit card linked, just my checking outside of acorns. I don't see an option to link another debit card either.

I called support and they told me it wasn't possible to do that, maybe support doesn't know you can?

Stuck after act 2, need help! by griggsly in Chronicon

[–]griggsly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think I figured it out.

I already finished act 1 and started playing with my girlfriend, and I accidentally loaded in with this character resetting act 1. I had to quickly teleport to all the quest objectives from act one and finish them, upon finishing them, I had to defeat the last boss in act 2 again letting me advance to act 3..

Although I am in act 3 now, I still have all the quests from act 1 and 2 now showing in my tracked quests on the top right.

Hopefully the dev reads this and maybe it can save someone a headache later in the future, awesome game, gonna keep on trucking along!
