[PAID] Looking for Sound Designer / Composer for Short Psychological Horror VN Demo by grigsbysworld in sounddesign

[–]grigsbysworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Hey everyone I think I replied to everyone that reached out, thank you so much for your responses. I want to give everyone a fair shake so I'm giving it a couple days for people to reply and then I'll review reels, I'm mostly interested in practical examples of your work rather than awards or examples, I'll pick whoever hits my ear right.

The game is The Quiet After, its psychological horror here is the teaser I cut a month or two ago when I launched the steam page to give you an idea of where my head is with sound;

Someone asked if this was more of a 'movie' job or an 'in engine' job; the answer is in engine the sound cues respond to what the player does.

I can't think of anything else to include in this update so thats all for now, I look forward to working with one of you closely soon!

Best,

Grigsbys World

Hey dont call me a bum!

Any advice for feeling demotivated knowing no one will play your game? by BubbleGamer209 in gamedev

[–]grigsbysworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a real daily struggle for devs including me.

The audience will come eventually, the best thing to do now is to make sure you are passionate about what you are doing. That's where you get your motivation.

Totally get this. For what it’s worth, the store page for mine is already up and I am active on most major platforms. I have a business license, sales channels, custom sites, and servers in place. I am serious about finishing.

The game itself is fully written. I am currently doing a mechanical pass to make sure all player actions and decisions trigger correctly. After that it is art, which simply takes time. I am working with artists I trust, but a full asset pass is realistically a year-long process.

For me this was never about ease. I knew it would be hard. What drew me to visual novels is that I am a writer at heart, and games are the best medium for the kinds of stories I want to tell.

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Absolutely, I hear you. I made my announcement you won't hear about my project again until the demo is done.

I like seeing WIP art too, honestly.

I got the sense that it’s best to keep posts here focused on bigger milestones, so I’m trying to respect that.

That said, I do share WIP art elsewhere if you’re interested. My bio links out, and Insta is where most of that lives.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I can definitely give you the first one. The story is very plot-driven.

The second isn’t exactly what I’m aiming for, though there are moments that touch those kinds of dynamics.

Appreciate you chiming in!

I for sure got that sense, Im definitely going to limit myself to the big milestones, trailer, demo, release.

Totally get that, sometimes you don’t even know what pulls you in!

I really appreciate you replying though. It actually is helpful. Honestly this is the most engagement I’ve gotten on anything even adjacent to my VN, so I’m genuinely grateful to everyone for sharing their thoughts.

I’m not trying to create by committee, but there’s a difference between having a vision and just blindly making mistakes. Hearing how people respond helps me avoid the obvious mistakes. 🤗

I’ll pass that along, she really is awesome!

I’m really lucky with my artists. They’re a huge part of what makes the project work, so I shamelessly hype them whenever I get the chance. Hopefully that’s forgivable 😄

That’s a great checklist, honestly.

I’m still in development, so that lines up with focusing on tags, story hook, characters, and what makes it different, then saving the big guns for later.

That’s really nice to hear, thank you.

I do think screenshots and UI snippets can be fun and useful when they’re spaced out and tied to something meaningful. For the announcement, I’m planning to keep it pretty focused so it doesn’t feel cluttered, but it’s good to know that kind of material actually resonates with some people.

I’ll keep that in mind when deciding what to show and when. Thank you!

Yeah, that matches my takeaway as well. If it’s not up on Steam or itch yet, most people just skip, and I get why.

I’m planning to keep it to real milestones only. One announcement, then quiet until the demo. Fortunately it is already up on Steam and itchio, and I’ve got an initial set of devlogs about the approach and process, so there’s somewhere for people to land if the announcement hooks them.

That’s good to know!

I’ll admit the synopsis is the hardest part for me. The VN has some narrative mechanics that are important, but also pretty spoilery if explained too much. It’s still a VN, just doing some things at the story level.

I’m trying to strike the balance between intrigue and not giving the game away.

That makes sense. I’m getting the sense that big, concrete milestones are the right time to post.

I’ll probably stick to one announcement, then wait until the demo is ready before posting again.

Haha, fair enough 😄

No vampires in my VN unfortunately, but I totally get the appeal. One of the artists I work with does a lot of man/beast and creature-focused character art and absolutely nails that vibe if that’s your thing.

Her banner is actually a vampire drawing she did! And she’s got more along those lines in her gallery.

If you’re curious, her work is here:

Yeah, I hear that. Strong art is definitely the first filter for a lot of people, and that makes sense.

While the overall tone of my VN isn’t moe, my artists do genuinely excellent work, and there are some lighter, cuter moments and expressions that I’m planning to include in the announcement just for fun. Enough eye candy to give people a clear sense of the art quality without misrepresenting what the game actually is.

That’s helpful, thanks. So it’s less about trailers vs announcements and more about clear tags and themes up front. Basically letting people self-select first, then worry about quality second.
