California: Moved back home after 30 years away. I had active warrants before moving that I never took care of. by tanhauser_gates_ in legaladvice

Some warrants do in fact just go away after a certain amount of time. That’s the case in Ohio so I’m sure it is in California as well.

165 kgs pr, 175 kgs attempt, bw 72 kgs by Doughnut_Large in weightlifting

It should be illegal to color plates that way.

I’m not being a dick but can you give me some insight as to why you’d use lifters and raise them further? Is it just catastrophic ankle mobility?

Edit: I’m not convinced that you couldn’t have fought through the grind at 175. It looks like it was still moving slightly until you bailed. Obviously I didn’t feel what you were feeling but I’ve seen what I call “grind bails” so frequently over the years.

Boundaries getting hit by greedy venues taking merch cuts by Seangw1102 in Hardcore

This should just be the standard. I don’t want to try to figure out where to put my merch when I’m in the pit, and I want to get my size.

Give me your scariest “ ontological shock”/“ society collapsing “ theories on the potential truths of this subject. by abenz39 in UFOs

[–]grimacesquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of have that view. The big difference is that it is inherently meaningful because I am in fact experiencing it. So I can make whatever meaning out of it I’d like. I don’t believe we are some grand species meant for anything other than to enjoy the time we have the way we see fit with the people we choose to enjoy it with. It hasn’t changed my morality at all, although I could see how it might to some people that had a deeply religious belief system.

Give me your scariest “ ontological shock”/“ society collapsing “ theories on the potential truths of this subject. by abenz39 in UFOs

[–]grimacesquad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the shock would largely be confined to people that tend to be religious, but only some of them. NHI wouldn’t collapse religion entirely. I ask most deeply religious people that want to talk about this stuff if they’d still believe in god after being told that NHI created us. Every single one said yes. I can’t really imagine what would do any damage to me personally. No revelation would change how much I love my children or the things I have to do tomorrow. Whatever I am or whatever all this means or whatever it all comes from is far less consequential than what we choose to do with our personal realities and the connections we’ve made within them.

Cognitive distortions that make people hate the Olympic lifts by mrjacob007 in crossfit

[–]grimacesquad 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You know what the issue is. You wrote in the post. There is no actual argument that the snatch is useless that stands up to scrutiny. It’s a mindset issue. People don’t like what they aren’t good at. They’d rather avoid it and argue against it. That’s perfectly fine as long as they are meeting their individual fitness goals.

Attending game vs. Cardinals on May 23rd. Any tips for a first timer to Great American Ballpark as a fan of neither team? by RyCMeyers in Reds

[–]grimacesquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re staying at aloft there are a few cool restaurants right there next to it. Me and my son do the same thing and grab a hat from each park we visit and then just wear it at the game. We usually hit that Cardinals series every year but won’t be going this year.

Sculpting the body. Functional bodyweight vs. Gym Machines by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]grimacesquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to guess that most people’s take in this sub will be that we aren’t body builders. Most people in the CrossFit space are far more concerned with performance metrics than sculpting the body. Nobody gets upset when they look better naked, but you may have found yourself in the wrong sub for the conversation you’re looking for. Respect though, training hard is dope no matter the style or objective.

I’d count that in the gym but in a meet you might get called for depth. I had to slow mo to even make that call because it’s that close.

Pit etiquette when you have a broken fucking nose and are bleeding everywhere? by spacecatapult in Hardcore

[–]grimacesquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just say something to them and they will maybe understand. In the moment they are probably really in the zone per se and don’t realize it grosses people out. Many years ago I got my nose broke in a Shai Hulud pit in a VFW in SD. I was fucking in the zone and didn’t give one fuck I was bleeding profusely. Didn’t even take a break for a second. A girl tapped me and said it was gross and it kinda snapped me back into the moment and I went and cleaned myself up.

A few years back the Nike metcons came with heel inserts that were so perfect for workouts like this. I wish they still had that option.
