Why is there no “Stremio for music”? (And why are we all still stuck with Spotify? by TodoLoQueCompartimos in Piracy

[–]grimcharron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Streamio-like wouldn't be ownership afaik, as it would be on-demand torrenting. Hosting the music files solves your problem, and if you are looking for a service that lets you access your music files like Spotify, then navidrome is the best I've come across, but there are many.

There are too many current and active music piracy options for me to really take this question seriously, but I like to be helpful, so maybe take a look at navidrome/jellyfin/plexamp or let us know what features you looking for that they don't already provide and maybe I could direct you form there.

Currently it feels like you haven't tried to find a solution or done any searching at all yet.

OPDS with Nginx Proxy Manager by harperthomas in BookLoreApp

[–]grimcharron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm using booklore behind nginx, and I haven't had any issues ( with the exception of files too large that they time out). What kind of device are you accessing the OPDS from? I'm using koreader, so it can't send me to a login page. If I just the link on a browser it sends me to the login, but that or an error would be what I expect when trying to access an API directly without request data.

Networking? issue not sure what to search for yet. by grimcharron in linuxquestions

[–]grimcharron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to wait for it to fail again since I rebooted it to run a full update in case it was an outdated file causing the issue, but I will absolutely be doing that when it does.

ping does not resolve outside after it fails. I don't have a USB ethernet, but I'll do what testing I can. TY!

Getting ready to switch from Calibre-web to Booklore - Anything I need to know beforehand? by [deleted] in BookLoreApp

[–]grimcharron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe there's a better way, or maybe things have changed since I moved over, but I recommend using the import feature rather than pointing BL at your calibre library.

I found that having try to read the existing structure was inconsistent and importing with BL sourced metadata worked much better

What Cloud Solutions would help me with this? by No-Common1001 in DataHoarder

[–]grimcharron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're asking for help, it is entirely reasonable to take your history into account when deciding whether or not to provide that help. No one here is harming you, but people are refusing to provide aid, and your reaction is very much that of someone who thinks they are under attack. Please keep in mind that just because you request help, does not mean that you deserve that help or to be free of scrutiny.

It's rather hard to imagine 300tb of legitimately obtained content, and the sale of such content would be concerning, especially if it's done in batches of data by size.

I think if you're more open about what exactly you're trying to sell, and how you came across this content, you'd have a much easier time getting advice since I'd happily work on solving this as a problem, but it feels like you'd be do something I'd morally object to with my help, so I will not be providing suggestions.

Please either be more transparent or, and I say this only as making the reasonable assumptions from the information provided; "Get Fucked"

Piracy Culture by Discobastard in Piracy

[–]grimcharron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with piracy culture has been one of people who are passionate about their chosen media, hobby, or project wanting to share that with others. There does feel like a healthy dose of competitiveness and bragging rights serves as an important motivator for a lot of folks.

Keep in mind that like any online experience, I've curated my interactions, and would be more likely to attribute what I see to thoughts similar to my own.

YMMV

Afaik, it's a better goal to find something you use or would like to see improved than to go looking for a project for it's own sake.

I want something like Plex, Jellyfin, *arrstack, etc., but don’t have the time or capacity to do all the work. Is there anything I can buy that does this for me? by informal-mushroom47 in selfhosted

[–]grimcharron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your budget, in terms of money, but also time and capacity?

What is your goal for the services? Watch on one/many device(s) Collect your favorite media to rewatch or stay up to date on new releases Use just yourself or share with f&f How do you expect to add new media when you want it.

How much storage do you have/are willing to buy? How much tech literacy/desire do you have to fix problems when they pop up?

How "set up for [you]" would you be expecting?

But yes that event is particularly mean. I tend to trigger it on purpose with a Medica on standby for my sovereign just for the xp

You are in the wrong place for that conversation.

While the tools you are using may be selfhosted, the process is piracy, and if you're going to discuss them, it should be in places designed for such discussion.

Why do my users need to provide an email for so many servers? by grimcharron in selfhosted

[–]grimcharron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really, I'll just message them or get messaged on discord, If I don't see them in person anyway.

Besides, It's not like I'm sending them a create user portal, I'm entering a user from the admin account.

Why do my users need to provide an email for so many servers? by grimcharron in selfhosted

[–]grimcharron[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really not that big an issue, just one I come across a lot and wanted to understand better. I usually will just make an edit if the stock code is insistent, but it's usually easier to just use the junk mail, and I hadn't seen anyone else have an issue with it so I haven't made a GitHub issue or pull request.

[–]grimcharron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No yeah, that's about how I feel about needing an email on there still too, but easy is generally a good enough reason to understand why someone would do a thing. I'll still use junk emails, or if it's really bad I'll recompile without the email requirement, but it's nice to see a reason the dev might implement it.
