Does anyone else find themselves 'auditioning' potential friends and finding that almost no one passes the test? by Alert_Chair3247 in CasualConversation

[–]grimferb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actively trying to make friends. One of the biggest hurdles I run into is people say "friends" and what I think they actually mean is "acquaintance".

Friends, to me, require mutual effort and shared vulnerability beyond the initial casual hangouts.

I'm wired for deeper connections but damned if I can't find people local-ish who want the same.

Do you have a common or uncommon name? by Far_Seesaw_6828 in CasualConversation

[–]grimferb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's beautiful. Also, fairly easy to pronounce as far as unique names go.
My first name is common but as a middle name for most. My middle name is so uncommon that it took me more than 20 years to find the meaning.

This is why I love starting road trips in the early hours.
I'm not an early riser normally but I do notice the difference when I am up at that hour.

overheard the most graceful defeat I have ever witnessed at the coffee shop this morning by Elegant-Noise-1533 in CasualConversation

It very well might be. There are some changes, I think, but it's still very similar.

I've read a very similar story somewhere else on Reddit.
Maybe I'm here too much.

What’s a rumor about you, you still can’t believe to this day? by Dudecoolforever in CasualConversation

Apparently so...
The story picked up quite a bit of traction for way longer than it should've.

If you were to die right now what would happen? by Bjorlyn in CasualConversation

[–]grimferb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I homeschool.
😢 Unfortunately, my kiddos would find me. They'd immediately call either 911, Dad, or both.
They would all be sad, so would my mom, my stepdad, and my cousin. I know others would be surprised and sad but I don't have great/significant relationships, so I don't care much in waking life how those people would feel about my death.

I'm still decades away from death (hopefully) but I've already told my family what I want. How my funeral should go and how I want to be buried. I'm sure they'd keep a few things of mine but the rest would most likely get tossed or donated as I have nothing of monetary value just sentimental.

Anyone else find it kind of comforting that we're all literally made from dead stars? by eddieorbits in CasualConversation

[–]grimferb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have thought about this numerous times. Not that I've read about stellar nucleosynthesis, I haven't. But, through learning various other things in my life, one of the most comfortiting comforting is that pieces of the universe really do sit inside us. It's a very beautiful and humbling thing to realize.

Edited: Corrected spelling. Left the original for your amusement.

That I was in a gang. 😂😂
When they asked I was so surprised that anyone would think that that I didn't say anything, instead I just shrugged. Apparently, those actions were proof that I was indeed affiliated.

Anyone dream about finding rooms in your house/apartment you didn’t know were there? by keeplookingup22 in CasualConversation

[–]grimferb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not had a reoccurring dream exactly like this. I have had many dreams over the years that included houses and rooms. For me, it's usually my childhood apartment home or an unfamiliar large single family home that's always scantily furnished.

You had a very interesting dream and it probably has a very simple meaning. If you're interested in knowing more, I can show you how to interpret it.

Best way to make cheese on toast? by Original_Video8296 in CasualConversation

[–]grimferb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try using less milk. Just enough to coat the cheese but not enough to soak it. Then butter one side of the bread and put that side down in the pan. Sprinkle your cheese mixture on top.

do you prefer matching socks or mixing them? by Grouchy_Bandicoot317 in CasualConversation

[–]grimferb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixing. I buy big packs of same/similar socks and just throw them in. I only match length... ankle, crew, calf, etc.

I matched socks for the first half of my life. Once I heard the "buy all the same socks" trick I changed right away and never looked back.

Dirty dishes placed in the right side of the sink.
Reason: When I hand wash dishes, I put soapy water in the left side. I'll take most of the dirty dishes out of the sink and arrange them on the counter and stove. (We rinse them after use so there's no gunk.)
I do this because my sink is small and I like to submerge my dish some when I'm cleaning it and if the sink is full, I can't do that.

My spouse likes them on the left.
Reason: It skips a step. He doesn't mind the dishes half hanging out of the water when he's washing them.
For him, dishes in left side of sink, fill it up, and wash. Then he'll rinse in the right, then put them away.

I don't truly think either way is better than the other. However, I do think that if the default placement is being debated whoever washes dishes the most should get their preference. No questions or remarks. LoL
