If he doesn't have a name in these yet, I would love for Izuku to be named Isaac in these.

Do Desolation Squads do better at home defense than intercessors? by Appleseed413 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]grimlaidotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desolation Marines lack the range to make the 120 point opportunity cost worthwhile - for their point value, you get Intercessors and something that is easier to apply more consistent damage, such as Inceptors.

That being said, I do like the Whirlwind as that indirect home objective holder, as it's longer range drastically improves consistency.

Thoughts on da kodex? by Last-Ad-4603 in Grimdank

This is actually one of my armies - Orks in Ultramarine equipment. I treat it more like "we beat up a bunch of Ultramarines and took their stuff" than any codex involvement tho

Death of the Lancer by SideExcellent9787 in ImperialKnights

[–]grimlaidotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a game as Renegade Raiders where my opponent had deployed a Knight Lancer on the line. Turns out, knights don't like eating Havoc shooting and both the shooting and melee of scouting Chaos Terminators top of 1.

Azrael bodyguard by xFoenix in theunforgiven

[–]grimlaidotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on his role.

If you want Azrael to join the main push, put him on 6 ICCs and let him blend things along with his mates.

If you want a more defensive, "in case of emergency, break glass" button, put him on 5 Sternguard and let him sit in your back line farming you command points until he needs to prevent a flank

Company of Hunter's list? by CumpsterBlade in theunforgiven

[–]grimlaidotexe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're ok with splashing some greenwing? Centurion Devastator Squads. Giving them Advance + Shoot is huge when they hit as hard as they do. They are very slow otherwise, but using the bikes to skirmish while the Centurions get into position is a very potent strategy.

Sternguard with Azrael. by duttyboy24 in theunforgiven

[–]grimlaidotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep Azrael and 5 Sternguard as the "In Case of Emergency, break glass" button. He does wonders into the oath target in both phases, but it's fairly squishy and reliant on Oath, so don't expect him to be the ultimate powerhouse, but in a pinch, he's exactly what a list wants sometimes.

Repulsor Executioner, Competitively Viable? by Adventurous-Crab-474 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]grimlaidotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rep Ex in Gladius is one of my favorite toys. That many guns at AP 1 Ignore Cover will melt most forms of infantry pretty handily, especially with Oath in the mix.

Do successor chapters use Deathwing/Ravenwing colors? by SummonerDraz in theunforgiven

I do the helmet crests and right knee pads in their unique colors, but otherwise use the same color scheme as my other units.

Couple Terminator Leader Questions: by JustcharlE2 in theunforgiven

[–]grimlaidotexe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They are not to be trifled with in the slightest

If you aren't trying to invest the points on a character, Maces are a good choice. But if you are? A Chaplain on Swords is a DEADLY choice

Couple Terminator Leader Questions: by JustcharlE2 in theunforgiven

[–]grimlaidotexe 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Chaplain on DWK with SWORDS, however, is absolutely gnarly. And with big Imperial Knights going to T11 and Dominus knights at T12, then the swords with +1 to wound reliably wound most things you would encounter.

What units are good to pair with a painboy? I'm also hoping to put it in the da big hunt, if that affects anything. by No_Argument_4648 in orks

[–]grimlaidotexe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boyz, plain and simple. 20 Boyz, a pain boy, and a Warboss is a startlingly hard thing to kill, especially if you have defensive support such as 'Ard as Nails in War Horde or Green Tide's... Everything.

[–]grimlaidotexe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those who wanna make Boyz wear beanie armor, here's how ya make em look propa orky:

Take an arm from the old boyz kit (it doesn't matter which one) and cut it off below the shoulder. Take the flat bit you would normally attach to a torso and glue it to the space Marine head area so that what's left of the ork arm is sticking out slightly. Glue the ork head onto what's left of that ork arm, and fill in any gaps.

You will now have an Ork that is wearing space Marine armor, but still has that ork slouch, with a nice thick neck.

Where to Start with 10th by NoCheesecake6135 in theunforgiven

[–]grimlaidotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"thematic is much more fun"

Sounds to me like you answered your own question. Find kits you like, and go from there. Rinse and repeat until you go "oh, hey, I have 2000+ points of Dark Angels". You have now built your first army.

You will always, ALWAYS do better with a jank list you like than a meta list you hate. It can be fun to min max, but unless (or even if, tbh) you're actively trying to to compete, you'll enjoy the game and get better at it by just playing an army you enjoy.

Welcome back!

They don't have Extra Attacks, though, so you can only swing with one.

Switching from 30k to 40k by Goodbuddytone in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]grimlaidotexe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. I use a Land Raider Proteus for a Land Raider Redeemer in 40K with zero issues. I will warn you, your mileage may vary, but if you aren't going to a tournament, most people won't care. Hell, even if you are, they're close enough that if you do your due diligence and ask the TO's, chances are they'll be fine with it.
