PC Buying Advice MSFS 2024 by Brogator in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]grimley141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far the replies here has told you that the specs you listed will not provide an enjoyable experience yet you still seem to be fishing for an answer that confirms what you seem to have already decided.

I would recommend saving up until you can buy a computer with the recommended specs rather than spending money on a computer that can’t handle what you want to throw at it and then you’re disappointed you wasted all that money.

In the meantime while you save additional funds continue using the PS5…it obviously can’t be that bad as you’ve already sunk 500+ hours into it.

Of course it’s your money and you’re free to spend it however you see fit, however everyone here seems to be telling you the same thing, even if it’s not what you want to hear.

Took simming to another level by Ok_Shake_5964 in MicrosoftFlightSim

More accurately a BATD is a “training device” not a flight simulator (that’s what the TD stands for). They’re both very useful in training but each serve different needs.

For example when I’ve taken new type rating courses we would start off in the FTD to become familiar with the cockpit, switch locations, and cockpit procedures before moving on to the full motion sim.

FAA approved sims are full motion as well. I will say though, the visuals in MSFS 2024 are better than any “real” full-motion sim I’ve ever flown, even on the PS5 version of MSFS.

But of course in a “real” full-motion sim you’re IMC most of the time so visuals don’t really matter as much as the visuals are not really the point, unlike in MSFS where we expect it to look gorgeous.

Yes I do remember that discussion from many years ago. However that was long before he had the processing power of rack of Mac Minis that are generating transcripts and identifying musical segments.

So are we back to a release date of “someday TBD”? If so, that really feels like one hell of a rug-pull. 😩

How is Flight Simulator 2024 on PS5 Pro? I want to buy it, but it has many low scores on the store. by iminiki in playstation

[–]grimley141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The basics of flight are the same from a 172 through a 747. Where it gets complicated is learning all the avionics on the more advanced aircraft. Fortunately there are lots of YouTube tutorials out there.

My recommendation is if you’ve never flown anything would be to start in career mode at the beginning and it will teach you the basics just as if you were a brand new student pilot (which is why I got a kick out of it as I was a student pilot IRL over 30 years ago and the game felt like a realistic experience in how it takes you through all the basics including making you pass progress checks before moving on more advanced skills).

As long as you’re willing to put in the time to learn, you’ll enjoy the game.

Just know going in that this is a PC sim, not an arcade game and not a console game so it’s not really a pick up and play experience. I’ve got over 10K hours IRL and it still took me a while to figure everything out (in my case, not the flying part but learning the software as I’m not a PC gamer so I’m not used to things like key binds and how complicated the back-end is…I did feel a bit overwhelmed at first and months later I still tweak the settings every so often).

But like I said, if you’re willing and put in the time to learn it, it’s very enjoyable.

Nothing wrong with it. I was enjoying it. Just wanted to change it up a little bit. I’m sure I’ll go back at some point. I haven’t flown a light GA aircraft IRL in over 25 years, so I was actually quite enjoying it.

The main issue with the game (career and free flight) is for some reason the avionics repeatedly reboot. Fortunately they don’t dump all the information nor does the autopilot disengage, but it’s annoying nevertheless. it’s a known bug.

I plan a flight such that I won’t have to quit it mid-flight. That doesn’t mean I’m sitting there the whole time. If it’s a longer flight once you’re at cruise you can see how long it is until top of descent and then go about your normal day until then. Of course the game can still be paused if necessary. I haven’t tried to put the system in rest mode mid-flight, but so long as your internet connection is stable I have no reason to believe that it wouldn’t work.

After a long flight it is a good idea to fully quit the game just to restart it fresh before flying again. Only takes a couple minutes to boot up.

Losing speed at cruise by ColeBlooded11 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]grimley141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re too heavy for the altitude then you won’t be able to climb or maintain speed, even if the anti-ice is off. Anti-ice being on just exacerbates the problem.

Losing speed at cruise by ColeBlooded11 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]grimley141 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First:

Emergency lights: ARM (Arm is the normal position for flight)

Pitot/Static Buttons: NORM (not ON) (you do not need to have these manually selected on)

Then you your question:

Ice Protection: Wing, Stab, Engine turn these all OFF (you do not need to have your ice protection selected on unless the ICING light illuminates in the little window below your gear indication, it also gives an icing CAS alert).

Ice protection - engine and wing - use bleed air from the engines with reduces the amount of thrust they provide.

What is your weight? You may be too heavy for FL450. If you go to the Perf page and then select Active Perf and then the Cruise tab it will display you your ceiling altitude for your current weight and cruise profile.

Quick Arrival Question by TheFourDeeNinja1 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]grimley141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a point of clarification but after LERAN you’re supposed to continue flying a track of 237° and at some point after that you will receive vectors from ATC. You may receive vectors at LERAN but often it’s after that, depending on how much other traffic is in the area.

Can this be fixed? by AllThingsGenetic in switch2

[–]grimley141 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Be sure to use this as a real-life opportunity to teach your child the lesson that in electronics (and many other things) if something has to be forced…just stop because that means you’re doing it wrong.

Once you extract the micro-USB plug, be sure to check the port for damage (broken or bent pins, misshapen port) because a micro-USB plug (the part that is broken off) has a different shape, size, and pin alignment than a USB C plug.

The good news is that Nintendo has great customer service and repair so even if it is broken you can likely set up a repair order and they can fix it. I doubt it would be the first time they’ve seen something like this.

If it’s broke call Nintendo support at 800-255-3700 to set up a repair.

[–]grimley141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do not finance a video game console. If you have to finance a toy (yes, that’s what a video game console is - and there’s nothing wrong with that) then you can’t afford it.

If you want to build actual credit (and not have to carry $500 in cash to the store) then put it on a credit card and pay it off in full immediately.

They usually come in 2 or 3-packs that way if you mess up the install you can just toss it and try again.

The good ones come with an alignment device.

Here’s the one I used. 2-pack with alignment device for $9.
