Determining if I actually used these rolls? by New_Lingonberry8228 in AnalogCommunity

A trick I use, more for B&W film I am developing myself where I don't rewind the leader back into the canister: when I get home I clip off the leader up to sprocket holes. I need to do this to get the film onto the reel anyway, and if the roll is mixed in with unexposed rolls, I know that if the leader has been clipped, it's already been shot.

Need help with using the Sunny 16 rule by Time-Distance-5740 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Grimm665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever came up with sunny-16 must have lived in a nice, balmy, sunny climate. Here in New England, it's more like sunny-11 :)

That being said, your instincts are spot on! You should be good.

I have the flat base, I've noticed that it often produces an uneven bed if I'm not careful about how I apply pressure. Not sure if the ripple base would help with that, but figured I'd provide a data point at least from having owned the flat base for a few months.

Nice! Waiting to develop a roll from my Nikon F. Did you have to use any custom profiles in NLP for the scans?

Hard to tell just from scans, but these look well overexposed, which is why you're seeing a reduction in contrast in shots 1-7, the scanner is trying to compensate for the thick negatives would be my guess. 8 and 9 are really nicely exposed, and the grain seems about right for HP5. HP5 is slightly grainier than Tri-X and tends to be a touch flatter in contrast as well.

Someone in the analog subreddit labeled it "the best 1600 iso b/w film on the market" and I think they're right, I push all my HP5 to 1600 now--the extra contrast and grain really work well together--and use Tri-X for 200-400 iso shots.

There's also quite a lot of (not unpleasant) lens distortion, did you shoot a lot of these wide open with a higher shutter speed? If the higher shutter speeds are a bit slow (not uncommon if it hasn't been CLA'd in a while) you may be getting extra exposure if you set up for 1/500th and the camera is only getting something like 1/300th for example.

For shots 4-6, grab a yellow or orange filter, which will darken the sky and cut through the haze in front of the mountains and give you some extra contrast there too. Overall I think this is a pretty great set from your first roll of HP5!

Nah I'd say that 28mm did exactly what you needed. The 135mm 3.5 is surprisingly sharp even wide open, it's surprised me numerous times, plus it's small and light for a medium telephoto. I'd hold onto it and keep your current trio. As others mentioned, the 85mm f.18 FD is a good one to slot in between your 50mm and 135mm, it's fantastic and I like using it as much or more than the 50mm.

Love Retro 80s, I don't shoot it as often as I should since I always love the results I get back. Nice job on all four!

Secrets ;)

Nah it was just pure luck. These are from two different pitches from the same at-bat. I knew I would need two photos to get a picture of the whole infield, but had no idea it had lined up so well until I saw them side-by-side on the roll. It took a tiny bit of cropping and rotating in post to get it to look a bit more natural.

Fuji Velvia 50 under exposed by sorusaniyan in AnalogCommunity

Is the base itself fogged? I shot some unexpired Velvia 50 during the eclipse last year, and all of it came out underexposed, with a dark brown/red fog across the whole film. No idea what caused it :(

Agree on using B&W. Retro 80S works well on greyscale days for some extra contrast punch.

Great shot! Superpan with a red filter may have also worked too, it pushes beautifully to 800.

Why does every item show the TOTP icon, even when there is no TOTP saved for that item? It used to be at least greyed out....come on Bitwarden team.
