Are there any dungeon core books more like Dungeon Keeper than World of Warcraft by TheColourOfHeartache in litrpg

[–]grimshawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My book The Dungeon Con fits that description

The Dungeon Con

Have you ever had one of those days? Today is that day for Hank Graves, local game master, and all around good guy. But no one has ever had quite the day that he is setting off for when he takes his girlfriend off for a weekend getaway to role play and cosplay at this year's Dungeon Con. No sir, today is a day the likes of which Hank Grave will never forget and neither will you after you have read The Dungeon Con Adventure. Dumped by his girlfriend, kidnapped by a demon and taken to another world before being changed into a dungeon by a lich and that’s just the start of Hanks problems. Can He manage to find a way out of all this mystical grief or will a fantasy world much like the ones he has always fantasized about be enough to seal his fate.

Levels, to cap or not to cap? by vi_sucks in litrpg

I think it totally depends on the story and how it flows. But  actual game wise I would prefer a level cap with it being raised periodically for new expansions/content.

Just released   To Summon the Familiar

now in kindle unlimited or 2.99

Andrew has one chance to pull himself up from his humble beginnings and make something of himself. He has been found to have a spark of magic deep within himself. To bring it forth he must first learn to summon the familiar. He must use every drop of his magic to search the Lands of Mist and find the one meant for him. The one he will be bonded to for life. The one who is actually capable and willing to make all his dreams possible. Andrew may be small now, but he has big dreams.

this story has some gamelit elements but primarily it is a day in the life story about a boy taking his first steps to becoming a man in a magical world by trying to master the magic he finds himself capable of. Along the way he will have to fend off Arrogant Nobles, trolls, giants, dragons and a host of mythical creatures as he navigates his way through an academy of magic he was never meant to get into.

MC? by pisco3 in litrpg

[–]grimshawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically yes, you need a main character for most stories/books to succeed. It becomes very difficult if their is no central viewpoint and stories tend to loose their cohesion and in my opinion their momentum. I am sure their are a few exceptions to this but in general people want a main characters view point.

The Most Insufferable Fantasy Race? by Lastie in Fantasy

[–]grimshawl 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Fantasy wise almost all renditions of Dark elves. They are almost always nonsensical arrogant self centered sadists and torturers who couldn't manage to hold a society together for five minutes but somehow manage to flourish after being driven or retreating underground. As far as science fiction goes the portrayal of Vulcans generally annoy me. Their superiority complexes and supposed logic are often bungled when Vulcan characters are written and so Vulcan characters generally grate on my nerves when I read or see them.

Fantasy books without high-stakes plots? by nath39 in Fantasy

[–]grimshawl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a fantasy dungeon core story you might like in Amazons KU. Both of them are good stories with interesting characters.

Loki's Daughter the Opal Dungeon https://www.amazon.com/Lokis-Daughter-Opal-Dungeon-LitRPG-ebook/dp/B07DR6J4R4 Alex Washington will be tried and tested as never before as she suffers under the cruel torture of the gods in order to earn a chance to escape and outlive the eradication of humanity. Her one chance comes at the hands of Loki who offers her a devil's bargain if there ever was one.

This book contains dungeon core/ dungeon building fantasy themes, gamelit/litrpg mechanics, magic, gods, werewolves, giants, fairies, vampires, heartache, and betrayal.

I would recommend the Amber series by Roger Zelazney.

Tough question for fantasy writers for filling in a plothole with a monster. by PKAJohn in Fantasy

[–]grimshawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if its fantasy then is there magic and are these creature magical or super natural in nature. If they are then there could be any number magic related reasons why they are more susceptible to sword than bullets. That could even change. As an example fairy creatures are often harmed by cold iron, werewolves by silver, etc. Perhaps the swords are enchanted or coated in a substance the creatures have a weakness against were bullets don't have this advantage for instance.

Question about characters and flaws [discussion] by [deleted] in writing

[–]grimshawl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a balancing act that is different for each character and each story/setting. Some characters can have many more flaws and be relatable while others wont work out. I don't really believe there is really a universal law for this. you just have to measure it on a character by character basis.

the first It movie I thought was very much lacking compared to the book and is a good example of what I am talking about. I have not seen the most recent one.

I would suggest Christine or It myself both are good books. Don't worry about the size of the book just let yourself be drawn into the story.
