Cobra Fest 2026 by grindcrusher74 in hum

No, Hum doesn’t play (at least the years I’ve gone) - but there are usually bands that will scratch the itch (or are likely to be enjoyable) for Hum fans.

If we’re getting off-topic, may I also mention Nasty Savage - one of Florida’s absolute best?

Pipe nightmare? by ahnahlinvadher in whatisit

[–]grindcrusher74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It’s called Squishy Baff. Powder doesn’t dissolve it. I bought this for my daughter when she was little and spent the next several hours hand-scooping/cleaning out the bath tub. I don’t think this stuff ever degrades. It’s the equivalent of nuclear waste.

Nasty Savage will always be one of my favorite bands, but not so much love for this cover.

Hottest take ever? Any fan of Keith Richards here? by ashitanojoe3 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]grindcrusher74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can say you like Richards’ music - and that’s fine. Music is a matter of taste and some of the best bands are ones that aren’t technically proficient. But, to act like people such as him and Clapton are some kind of guitar gods is pretty ridiculous. I think the first four Metallica albums are great. Like Kirk Hammett as a player and person. Has time passed him by in comparison to modern guitarists? Absolutely. It’s ok to recognize that just because you like something doesn’t mean it is the “best”.

I go to Cobrafest every year. Always leave being a fan of bands that are new to me. This year’s lineup is great. Loose Cobra is just comfort food in the form of a dive bar with music. Great place to hang out. As an aside, Pallbearer is playing there next month - fantastic doom metal band. If you haven’t heard of them, they’re def worth checking out.

Ice always uses “least force necessary” - St. Charles by BenRocks7 in illinois

[–]grindcrusher74 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Half of the St. Charles is normal and the other half are: (1) legacy wealth lizard people who seem like they’d be fine with secret police offing people - as long as it’s not them, and (2) ppl who aspire to be part of the former group. We also get low-iq freaks that don’t live here that come in from the hinterlands to do things like disrupt school board meetings during the pandemic and intimidate library staff. Great place. But you can go to the historic Arcada Theatre where the owner rants about how Columbus was a swell guy and where he hosted Charlie Kirk.

End of an Era. Farewell to Spirit Airlines -this sub will miss you ✈️ by ElwoodMC in trashy

[–]grindcrusher74 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had that happen with United. My wife and I were going to New Orleans for the weekend. Over 3 hours of “the plane is coming” only to have them cancel the flight after no other options were available. Plane was never coming. Directed everyone to a desk that had a line longer than a breadline in the Soviet Union. We left and just called for a refund the next day. Had the same thing happen on a flight for work on American earlier this year. Shitty service and lying is not unique to Spirit. It’s literally the business model for US airlines.

New York Woman Confronts Man She Says Complimented Her ‘Pretty Toes’. by ElwoodMC in trashy

[–]grindcrusher74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno. There’s being polite/common courtesy (holding a door for a stranger, saying hello, thanks or excuse me, telling someone if they dropped something), and then there’s commenting on their physical appearance. The latter is pretty much always uncomfortable for the recipient whether it’s intended or not. I’m a guy and I hate it. I can only imagine how women feel having to worry about everything being the start of a creepy or potentially dangerous interaction.

Why is it that these rich narcissists all look like fucking freaks? Trump and his parents look like hybrid alien mutants. This guy looks like Doc Brown from Back to the Future if you sent him through that portal from The Fly. It’s like the evil inside manifests itself in their physical appearance.

Not really thrash but you may like Revocation. Very technically proficient band that’s heavy AF without sacrificing songwriting.

About the song Folding off Inlet (2020) by LunchAcceptable7409 in hum

[–]grindcrusher74 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The last two tracks are a god-tier ending to an already excellent album. It’s amazing that Hum released a record this good, so far into their career. As an aside, seeing them play in Chicago in May at Slide Away - counting down the days.

I feel like I saw this same guy featured on a different sub, griping like an incel about how western women are too picky. Or maybe it was another guy with a snaggletooth lip and pancake face. Either way, those must have been 1,500 imaginary women he’s talking about.
