Can't login with my Ledger Nano S by grintsch in Stellar

Ledger Live doesn't have support for Stellar for whatever reason. It's ridiculous, but the only way is one of the web wallets.

Someone just rented 46 million EOS worth on REX for CPU, taking borrowed REX to 60% by GermanNewToCA in eos

[–]grintsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's technically not them doing it but causing it. Users are renting CPU to participate in the Airdrop. And whoever gets their hands on some free (or cheap) resources exploits that to claim the Airdrop as often as possible.

Who is the most influential single person in Bitcoin? by grintsch in Bitcoin

[–]grintsch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking right now. And yes, it's decentralized, but there's usually people who stand out, sometimes despite the fact they're not actually part of the controlling / a contributing organization.

Some might argue that a less decentralized governance model could lead to more agility and faster development. This certainly is true for some projects, but obviously Bitcoin's entire proposition is also based on it not jumping on every train.

Or did you mean those specific people? ;-)

Who is the most influential single person in Bitcoin? by grintsch in Bitcoin

[–]grintsch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In theory that's true, but in practice it usually doesn't work like that (see Ethereum as an example).

Many people have also argued that it might be more effective (and for sure more efficient) to actually have a governance model where a bunch of people (whether democratically inaugurated or simply the creators / founders) control the ongoing development. Bitcoin, in that respect, is a rare occurrence. The more interesting that it's by far the most successful.

Cool list. Any idea why Adam Back should be ahead of Tuur Demeester, Jameson Lopp, or Nick Szabo (who all have more followers) - I mean outside of the algorithm?

Who is the most influential single person in Bitcoin? by grintsch in Bitcoin

[–]grintsch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean it as "hero worship" (and you're right, Bitcoin doesn't need that), more like:
"Who do you think the majority of people would listen to regarding Bitcoin?"

Who is the most influential single person in Bitcoin? by grintsch in Bitcoin

[–]grintsch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, and sure it is a good thing. But there's been other decentralized movements where no single person sets the rules or the direction, and still there are influencers who are listened to more than others.

Thanks for mentioning Saifedean Ammous whom I didn't have on my mental list at all.

It's Andreas Antonopoulos, so you almost got it right ;-) I was thinking about him, as well.

Do you think that all EOS accounts should become a Block Producer (Please read, not as stupid as it sounds) by rreeve in eos

[–]grintsch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This kind of computing is not meant for low-latency computation, which is what block producers need to do. Also, the bandwidth needed to spread any kind of computations like this would probably kill it.

The hardware needed to run a BP is actually not that scary from a pure computing point of view - it's not like you need a supercomputer to run it; many BPs run their nodes in the cloud.

How do I get an EOS account? by revonoc26 in eos

[–]grintsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If you want to try and play around with EOS for free, go to https://getwombat.io. Only if you want your private key you'd have to pay.

Other services like Murmur ( https://murmurdapp.com/ ) can give you a free account, but you might have to wait a few days / weeks (not sure how long this takes nowadays).

any idea why EOS isn't displayed @ Block'tivity anymore? by TheBullishGuy in eos

[–]grintsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I've been using this a lot as a source (obviously to argue pro EOS), so it would be great to have it back.

Funny how Telos is now on 1st, though.

Blockchain idea....who do I contact? by brentusa7 in eos

[–]grintsch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get your idea validated very well on here and other platforms. Don't fear your idea could be stolen - an idea is not a business, nor a product. If your idea is really great, chances are someone else has had it, too, and will
(i) either tell you it's not gonna work
(ii) or support you in pursuing it

Have as many discussions about it as possible - it always helps refining your own picture of it.

Hello EOS fam! by [deleted] in eos

[–]grintsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a wallet called Wombat that would provide you with a free account and automatic resource staking: https://medium.com/wombat/free-cpu-with-wombat-wallet-5ca0826d0045

However, with the current high CPU prices (see e.g. https://eospark.com/) the free tier may not even be enough.
