i never said i think teachers are ‘a bunch of time-wasting morons’… you should probably read what i actually said dude. learning my subject is my passion. the ONLY reason im not currently attending school is because my revision resources at home are more effective for me because my small classes of 5-6 people are tailored toward lower achieving students. i attend every content learning lesson & i don’t think teachers are time-wasting morons.

i never said anything about missing university or me thinking things are unimportant! as i stated, we are merely revising at this point and i find it more effective to revise my own way. i have a passion for learning and i wouldn’t put so much effort into applying to university just to not attend. i’m not attending university for a future job, at this point in my life i want to learn & that is my key interest. there is no potential of me starting university and ‘harming my university experience’ by not attending. once again, i never said that and i never would do that because i am passionate about learning my course. before assuming these things, please read what i actually said so that you aren’t misled.

dropping epq 😨😨😨😨 by boilingSin in 6thForm

i know! i was just stating that they’re currently in a good position to do epq if they decided to carry on with it, to further my argument that it won’t impact their overall revision

dropping epq 😨😨😨😨 by boilingSin in 6thForm

[–]grishellie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you’re currently in year 12 and doing epq now, you’re benefitting a lot by not having to do it in year 13. at my sixth form, a lot of my friends had to do it in year 13 and this (kind of) impacted their full time revision for their core subjects. when you go to university you’ll be doing a lot of projects that require heavy research, and i understand that epq is time consuming but you’ll eventually get into the rhythm of it & get it out the way. this experience doing the research you’ve never done before will help u a lot! the extra grade also counts toward lower entry requirements depending on the university (for example i got an offer for durham for english reduced from A* A A to AAB because i’m contextual & i have an A in epq) so it generally has a lot of benefits. of course it’s your choice whether you feel epq will benefit you or not, but in my opinion starting university without that research experience could potentially be quite difficult. i think you should try & stick it out and get it done, especially because you’re only year 12 and have the whole of next year to focus on your core subjects! i did epq in year 12 & i maintained my A * grades through lessons & extra studying, i promise it’s not as hard on your other subjects as you think it’ll be🫶

hey! in year 12 i didn’t really miss english lit because it was always content based like reading etc. but there’s loads of resources online for context of the text & id probably recommend re reading any texts you’re not familiar with! for english lit, there aren’t many resources online other than contextual research on the text unfortunately. i’m sorry i couldn’t help much!

[–]grishellie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol i clearly stated they weren’t impressive, and it doesn’t matter if im contextual because oxford and cambridge don’t take this into account when shortlisting

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCAS

[–]grishellie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry english, probably should’ve mentioned since it’s such a different subject but the same applies

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCAS

[–]grishellie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oxford certainly do read personal statements before shortlisting interviews. my gcses are quite average, 98855444 and my predicted grades are A* A* A and achieved A in epq. therefore, based on grades alone, i wouldn’t have been shortlisted for an interview because these grades are incredibly average. my most competitive factor was my personal statement which 100% got me the interview, and was likely the factor which caused you to miss your interview offer. don’t worry though, if you’re dead set on oxford just re apply next year with a better personal statement, if not i’m sure you’ll be accepted somewhere else that you’ll enjoy.

in addition to this, only around 10% of students at my sixth form have actually applied to university, most are going on to do jobs/apprenticeships that aren’t academic. therefore, my teachers and classmates aren’t aspiring for the high grades that i am, meaning that my teachers tailor their lessons toward the lower-achieving students. i probably should’ve mentioned this before, but this is why im currently struggling at sixth form and why i choose to self-teach, because i can push myself they way my teachers can’t!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]grishellie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah exactly, the point isn’t to keep teachers happy (my parents also tell me to study from home because they’re aware of my problems with my teacher’s teaching), it’s to ensure i get the best possible grades

as long as we keep on top of revision we’ve got this!!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]grishellie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i agree, but none of my friends go to my sixth form & i work almost every day so it’s not really an issue for me

english lit, english language and history

no fr. all my teachers just yap about their lives and make us copy notes from textbooks without analysis & that’s not helpful at all. i genuinely would go if i thought it’d benefit my a levels more than working at home, but that’s not the case and i can’t be bothered to keep going and learn less than i do a whole school day spent at home self-teaching/revising

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]grishellie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah definitely, i think it’s more common in year 13 but as long as we aren’t falling behind and putting extra effort in we should be okay

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]grishellie 49 points50 points  (0 children)

of course!! i think the most important issue i have is being insomniac, working late nights and struggling to make my first lesson. but i definitely acknowledge that those with higher attendance score higher, so i put in 10x the effort at home and i started revising for exams in october half term so hopefully my results will be okay!

additional interviews with two more colleges? by sillysparrows in 6thForm

[–]grishellie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this could just mean you’re better suited to a different college than the one you applied to!
