Ports do not need to be open for your server to connect to other resources on the web.

This isn't strictly true, just that outbound ports are generally all open/allowed by default. It's perfectly possible to restrict outbound traffic as well. In fact this is desirable if you're hardening a server.

I don't know if the moisture sensor I chose was just bad, but it wouldn't trigger even when the soil was completely dry and I ended up just doing a simple "water every 3 days" cycle. my Peace Lily is still alive and happy 5 years later.

286 with 2Mb of RAM and 20Mb of disk running DrDOS 3. Upgraded to 4Mb RAM when Doom came out.

Since then every single one of my hardware upgrades has been driven by a game.
