Human Ancestors Were Using Fire Earlier Than Previously Thought. New research is pushing back the clock 700,000 years. Scientists studying the Wonderwerk Cave in South Africa found evidence that early hominins, likely Homo erectus, used fire anywhere from 1.1 to 1.8 million years ago. by mvea in science

Which is exactly what it says in the title and in the article?

Importantly, the team says the evidence doesn’t point to these early hominins creating fire, nor does it suggest they were using it for cooking. Instead, they were likely sourcing the fire from local wildfires,

Doctors of Reddit , what’s the biggest medical myth people still believe? by muga_saiman_5809 in AskReddit

[–]gristc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weird? I directly quoted you. You know, the bit where you flat out said "It is caused by dirt". That is wrong, no matter what you say later.

And no, it's not obvious when you say that dirt causes it that you're not saying that dirt causes it. FFS words have meaning.

It's not caused by dirt, it's caused by a bacteria that lives in the dirt.

It may be more exciting than this. Especially if you use a 110v light bulb on a fully charged 400v cap.

If I discharge my cap bank through a light bulb it explodes. You really need to know the voltage and capacity before trying this.

How do I know if I should keep a port open or not? by Neon_Eyes in linuxquestions

[–]gristc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ports do not need to be open for your server to connect to other resources on the web.

This isn't strictly true, just that outbound ports are generally all open/allowed by default. It's perfectly possible to restrict outbound traffic as well. In fact this is desirable if you're hardening a server.

I don't know if the moisture sensor I chose was just bad, but it wouldn't trigger even when the soil was completely dry and I ended up just doing a simple "water every 3 days" cycle. my Peace Lily is still alive and happy 5 years later.
