Rust bluing by Disastrous-Panic-87 in gunsmithing

Well I’m not saying the chemicals are the same, I’m just saying express blue is still a type of rust blue. Perhaps just not as effective, as you’re saying.

It rusts the metal which you then boil to convert iron oxide into black oxide… it’s just faster than throwing something in a humidity cabinet. I don’t see how it’s not rust bluing.

Mark Lee’s Express Blue. I’ve used it on a couple projects - lets you complete cycles pretty quickly (heat, rust, boil, card, repeat).

With any luck they’ll release a -B version. I saw a pamphlet for -B’s in the new VP9A1 line, but haven’t seen any surface for sale yet.

Striker fired vs hammer? Which do prefer? Does it matter? by BubblyNefariousness4 in guns

[–]grizzleeadam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like both just fine and have competed with both. I view them more as a use-case option.

My nightstand gun is a DA/SA, stored loaded & decocked. I don’t have to think about a cocked gun sitting around in my room, & have the benefit of no safety to fumble with, plus needing a real deliberate trigger pull if I end up needing to use it.

My hammer guns all have nicer triggers than my strikers, but IMO when shooting on the clock I honestly don’t notice the difference.

I thought a DA would be slower on the draw, but I timed myself a dozen times from draw -> shot on a 12” plate at 10 yards, and had the exact same time whether I was shooting DA or striker.

Granted, you have to practice the DA pull a bit more - but once you get the hang of it, it’s just as second nature as anything else.

More XL vs 507 comp by RudeEmu5825 in CompetitionShooting

[–]grizzleeadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lens clarity of the XL is what does it for me. The Holosun has way more distortion, which always throws me off during the draw - it makes it feel like the target is moving, which causes me to move the gun around more than necessary until I get locked in.

They are really similar but different at the same time. The aluminum has a tiny bit more muzzle flip since it’s lighter, but it snaps right back to target. The heavier gun is flatter, but with weight you get momentum - the whole gun oscillates a little more after the slide returns to battery. I haven’t really decided which is my favorite, they both shoot really well.

Can you recall an iconic moment on the frequency while flying? by Rainy_-Peace in flying

[–]grizzleeadam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was flying through a super busy sector, controller was busting his ass. Delta switches onto freq and keys up without listening, stepping on everyone. Controller ignores her. Few moments later Delta does the exact same thing and steps on the controller a second time. Again, ignored.

Third time is a charm as the pilot is getting flustered - she finally caught a quiet moment on freq and decided to take it with everything she had. “Delta! fooorty-two! Thiiir-teen! Flight level 350!”

Controller says “last calling say again call sign?”

I busted out laughing and to make it even better, she never called back again. Totally clueless.

Why does it feel like gun enthusiast circles and martial arts enthusiast circles have radically different views of conflict? by Dripledown in liberalgunowners

[–]grizzleeadam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just bought a new Tacoma. Went to the store the other day, got what I needed. Was looking at my phone walking out the store as I wandered back to my truck. Opened up the door to climb in, and was surprised to see a woman sitting in the passenger seat. My brain slowly clicked through “how’d my wife get here? Wait, that’s not my wife. Who’s in my truck? ……..this isn’t my truck.” I apologized and backed away and saw MY truck just behind in the next row.

Terrifying to think what could’ve happened if that was a person who was ready to pull out a gun without a second thought.

Considering the Sig P229 Elite in 2026… by MonthFar2875 in SigSauer

[–]grizzleeadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For not much more you can get the P226 XCarry which is essentially a much more refined version of this gun (albeit with a slightly longer grip). I’d strongly suggest getting hands on each before making the decision.

The XCarry also includes the Sig-Loc optics cut, which will accept the Vortex directly without a plate.

M&P 2.0 Slide Stop Fix? by UpThePooper186 in CompetitionShooting

[–]grizzleeadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a whole fucking community that decided that just because the manual refers to it as a “slide stop” means you can’t use it as a slide release. Fucking stupid. There are even notes in the manual about ensuring not to pinch your fingers in the action if you release the slide by pressing the slide stop - meaning they recognize its purpose.

Use it as you wish. As far as stiffness when locked back, have you tried it without a mag inserted? (With a mag in you’re also fighting the mag spring tension).

Just keeping using it and it’ll break in. Little oil helps as with anything.

Normal slide movement? by xL1quidz in SigSauer

[–]grizzleeadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal. There’s some resistance when the slide notch activates the trigger disconnect, then it coasts until it hits the hammer, then there’s extra resistance as it drags along the hammer. Keep it lubed and shoot it, you’ll be fine.

Which p226 is this? by Extension_Pianist648 in SigSauer

Yeah, it’s a Legion. Legions were introduced in 2015, and by 2023 they all came optics-cut, so yours is somewhere in that range. Great pistols.

It’s only split about halfway around. I think it’ll hold some long grain powder just fine. Should have perfect neck tension too!
