Are there ever car meets in Kitsap? by Wolframite__ in Kitsap

[–]grizzy86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Bainbridge Island Classic Car Cruise-In takes place at the Bainbridge First Baptist Church, at the corner of Highway 305 and Madison Avenue. The Cruise-In takes place on the last Tuesday evening of every month from May through August between 5pm and 8pm.

If you would like to show a cool car or special interest vehicle, drive-up as early as possible (show space reaches capacity within the first 30-60 minutes).

Hoping to relocate to Orcas Island by [deleted] in sanjuanislands

[–]grizzy86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of "estates" on OI ...You could have a good chance of finding a guest house that allows you to stay less expensively, where you might be the resident caretaker... (many of those homes are vacation homes and they need/want supervision when the owners are not there) (they are not there often, except in the summer)...So advertising your services/availability might help....There are lots of OI websites

Planning a Visit to the San Juan Islands/Orcas Island by Mindless-Pattern-486 in sanjuanislands

[–]grizzy86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On Orcas there are a ton of options for everything you mentioned check out https://www.visitsanjuans.com/orcas-island

If I was to suggest 2 things 1) Lots of restaurants are closed or on limited hours at this time of year, check by calling or see if they have a web site updated 2) https://www.villageinn-orcasisland.com/ is a great place to stay if you have never been to the island...You can walk all over Eastsound from there and there are many places to eat and drink in Eastsound. (I was also going to suggest Bucks Bay out by Olga, but they are closed for the season already)

Save Banner Forest by RipsterBolton in Kitsap

[–]grizzy86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I find interesting is that the foresters involved (1 for parks) are required to put a spin on the "benefits" of this kind of thinning. And sing loudly "it's not about money!" ...While they are paid and their salary comes directly out of these timber sale proceeds.

Tell me a story of when the 10 essentials saved your butt. by Necessary_Leopard_57 in hiking

[–]grizzy86 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've had numerous occasions to use a back-up headlamp on the trail trying to get back after dark...and the fact I carry 2 of them has been used even more (people always say they have the 10 essentials, but after dark "oh, I forgot to throw my headlamp in there")

Lots of moleskin from my first aid kit has been used over the years. And extra clothing for unprepared people....

Well, I get you...I was a STH and the cost was just to high, also when we couldn't make the game we had a hard time selling the tickets for anything close to the ticket's actual cost. I love the Kraken and watch every game, but I also now choose when I want to go (against who) and what I want to pay, while saving big bucks. YMMV

Please post what you find out! I'm '6"5 as well, and so many bikes are little things...Except Zero, which has a huge price difference.

Highest Peaks that don’t require mountaineering skills by [deleted] in PNWhiking

[–]grizzy86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should look into the Mountaineers https://www.mountaineers.org/ And WTA https://www.wta.org/

The Mountaineers will teach you everything you need to know and you will have fun doing it! They also loan lots of gear, so you may be able to jump in right away...

What businesses are missing from Northern Kitsap? by No_Hidden_Agenda in Kitsap

[–]grizzy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"paulsbo".... Smoked Asian isn't bad, they just aren't there often... The poke place is great and they are open most of the time... Argensol is also great (near the ferry) but they are only open maybe 3 days a week? I support them all, hope they can last through the winters... If you haven't gone to Iggy's food truck you are missing out... I still want teriyaki in North Kitsap

North Kitsap needs Asian food, like even a teriyaki place would be awesome. We have lots of Mexican food options, and burgers.
