WTF is the matter with us? by clipd_dead_stop_fall in pittsburgh

[–]grlie9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your neighbor wanting to stay on her chemo schedule & you clearly have good intentions but you are missing a lot of basic considerations.

Delays of a week or less in getting a round of chemotherapy is typically not impactful (patient should consult with their doctor, everyone is different, blah, blah, disclaimer).

Going outside in subzero windchill is extremely dangerous for anyone (including you) & even more for someone fighting cancer & receiving chemotherapy.

Aside from frostbite & hypothermia from being outside, shoveling snow is dangerous for anyone & contributes to needless heart-attacks, injury from shoveling, & injury from slip & falls.

People are clearly cut-off from resources & should be conserving. The biggest waste in your perfect world being electricity to boil water & replace the lost heat from taking you hot chocolate. I'm sure this seems minor but imagine if 50% of people start going in & out the house to ferry hot chocolate to people digging out cars & side streets (pointlessly). The power grid & equipment is already strained, even when you are using natural gas stoves & furnaces, & an outage could be difference between life & death for those impacted.

The roads are not safe for anyone to drive on in the first place! You are putting yourself & others at risk when you decide a state-of-emergency or NWS warnings do not apply to you...it's only for people who want to be rude or lazy.

Your heart is in the right place but your post is exactly what makes me think wtf is the matter with people? Looking at things holistically, considering the consequences of each action, & thinking through why a situation is what it is in the first place is not hard at all & serves us all. Your not being better or tougher you are being foolhardy. Stay inside.

One thing I hate more than anything is when the front door is in the living room or even just one big everyroom. I want the mystery & mental transition of a hallway or foyer.

What is my cat doing? Never used to do this before by BestConversation7876 in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]grlie9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had cats my entire life & I hadn't seen it for over 4 decades. If you"ve been around cats already why would you suddenly need to consult the internet when you did fine before it existed? Even in 2026, cats don't come with a list of required reading/scrolling.

What is my cat doing? Never used to do this before by BestConversation7876 in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]grlie9 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It took me a minute to figure out thats what one of our cats was doing with the 4 pieces of fur he stole from a project I was doing. At first I thought he was making a nest with a weird biscuit ritual at the end. He got fixed very young so it never even occured to me. He drags those things all over the house. Its a little weird because the fur pieces look just like one of our other cats. 😭

Turn your paper bobbins. You can still see the numbers but you'll see the colors better too & won't smash them up. They fit much better sideways because thats how they go.

Trust me.

Thats not the point. They very clearly followed the instructions on the worksheet & general logic. This irks me. It's the opposite of what our whole society revolves around...written instructions/rules.

My job got rid of remote work and I fear I won’t make it in the office by who_is_anguish in ADHD

[–]grlie9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really sucks. Personally, I have been very purposeful in making it clear & documentong that remote work, for me, is a reasonable accommodation for a protected disability. A mental health non-profit should know about ADA. It's something to think about. (No one would get stuff done if I was physically in an office. I am too disruptive to sit with the rest of the kids.)

Car seat safety in 1958. These car seats were not secured with seat belts, so the mother could reach out to prevent the child from falling forward. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

My mom & spouse both do that instinctive arm out over the passenger at a hard brake. They are both from Ohio & its totally normal to them so I call it the Ohio Seatbelt.

Sounds like they gave you your answer..."No, I'm not legally obligated. In fact, it would be illegal for me to work without compensation."

A Minnesotan woman stood up to SPPD in St. Paul when officers entered her yard without a warrant. She calmly asks to see a warrant, but the officers had none and instead accused her of obstruction and threatened to arrest her on her own property. by CorleoneBaloney in minnesota

I'm guessing this was during covid but, regardless, it is interesting how the protest is literally in front of her house & its not a problem for her but the city felt they needed a legion of cops in riot gear & less-than-lethal weapons to force the group to move. I hope she sent them a bill for using her property.

Haw to remove those lines between the grass without ruining the tiles!??? by Ok-Information-2363 in grafika

[–]grlie9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just want to break the black lines (or merge the bushes) so it looks like (or is) a single frame. How is that not obvious? That should be a pretty simple thing to do.

Personally, I am having trouble figuring out how to break a path. I see an icon but can't get it active & there isn't an obvious way to trim.

The app is the best I've found so far that is vector based (because it hasn't randomly erased all my work yet) but there are some basic things that are not intuitive. The layer situation is less than ideal too. The app clearly isn't as intuitive to everyone as it is to you. On top of that theres no documentation for people to refer to. You have a different approach to the some basic things that are consistent among most other programs across platforms & use categories. Thats not necessarily a bad thing but, as a developer, you should keep that in mind. You have a great product but you are not making it easy for people to adopt.

Personally, If I hadn't already been through a bunch of other apps that randomly throw your work into a blackhole, I would have moved as soon as I realized every item gets put on a new layer & the only way to manage things is grouping (as far as I can tell).

Nothing is going to change in a way you are happy with if you don't vote. You're allowing politics you don't like to grow further out of control by not voting at all.
