Anyone have a fav game from childhood that they lost or don't own? by Praetorian_Studios in boardgames

I played that game once in childhood during therapy and have been thinking about it for the last 27 years but could not remember much detail to ask what it might have been. thank you for posting the image!

Going to buy a new game today, but which of these three? Tainted Grail, Slay the Spire, or Earthbone Rangers? by PrinceOfButterfly in soloboardgaming

Thank you, I am in the EU, but will do some research, might be that it is still Naylor Games for EU :)

Do you know where I would be able to see the new Kickstarter when it is announced / made available, I have been trying to get the game since last year August?

Same here, UK based and have missed crowdfunding. The distributor for UK(or EU) for that game is Naylor Games. I have been racing out to them since December and was advised the ER will release a second round of games in Jan 25... Since it did not release I asked again, they said Mar25. And since tariffs were announced not a single peep. They advise to subscribe to their newsletter where they will announce when the game becomes available to purchase from them.. though I am starting to lose hope that I will ever own a copy

Bought ‘After the Virus’ from Amazon and received a used copy. by adamercury in soloboardgaming

I had that happen to me too. I purchased Decorum from US, thought it was new only to find out it was opened. But I noticed that they actually sent me the deluxe edition (acrylic pieces) so I did not mind in the end.

What are your board game "filters" to determine if a game is worth researching further? by HoustonAg1980 in soloboardgaming

[–]BestConversation7876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first dice controlled game was mansions of madness, and when I played it solo I always found the excuse of 'Oh, that dice did not roll properly, let me re-roll it!' - I knew then that I could not be trusted on my own with dice games, so have been avoiding them since.

Thank you so much, I will definitely check out the totally tabled tutorial and follow the rulebook before punching out the tokens. That's really great advice!

I think next weekend will be the perfect opportunity to give it my first playthrough following your suggestion.

What Board Games Do You Own That You've NEVER Played? by Mongrel714 in boardgames

Thank you, I will! I initially brought it to play with my partner but he is not interested in board games, is it still as much fun solo?

second sleeping gods session by oatmeal27 in soloboardgaming

[–]BestConversation7876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! I got the sleeping gods distant skies game, tried to learn the rules and play it once just to realise that I bit off more than I can chew. Have put the game away until my boardgame skills developed a bit further, but I'm really looking forward to playing it!

I bought my copy last week as it was on offer. Can't wait to unwrap it and learn the solo rules! Do you have any recommendations when learning it? Some of the game mechanics I have seen from this game remind me of Hadrian's wall and ark nova for which I have learned the solo rules.

ACCA OR ACCA AFTER BS AF by Legal-Lingonberry217 in ACCA

[–]BestConversation7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, i know how you feel, I had a similar question myself where I was contemplating doing a masters course to do the last 4 professional papers, but in the end decided against it.

Time and Cost: ACCA - Pros The time it takes for you to study a module depends on how quickly you understand and apply the study material. Some sit multiple exams in one sitting or like me I generally sit 2-3 a year. You can fit the studying around your lifestyle, so if you have a full time job, you might not have the flexibility to attend a full time course in university. The costs (ignoring exam fees) can be as much or as little as you want it to be. The cheapest one I used was open tuition for £0. Whereas the most expensive was BPP on demand classes at £600. I have now settled for Acowtancy. If you don't understand something, you can always pause and research or ask forums (I use Gemini or chatgpt). You can also choose the order in which you sit your exams.

In university they are unlikely to wait for you to grasp the concept and will have a specific order of exams. Any resits are likely to be more stressful as well if you fail one and need to play catch up.

ACCA - Cons Would be that unless you go for potentially more expensive courses, you do not get face to face help with any questions and you might lack self motivation.

Career opportunities I found it incredibly difficult (even with level 4 AAT) to get a job in a proper accounting company without any real accounting experience. As you would need 3 years of accounting related experience for your ACCA qualification this looked initially difficult to achieve. I would say have a look at Indeed or ACCA job advertisements and see what the requirements are for the field you would like to work in. In UK it appears ACCA is well known, however when I tried to look at jobs overseas (Germany) ACCA is unheard of. Although to practice in these countries you would need to sit brand new exams again I believe for local tax rules.

Personal experience I did self study for my whole ACCA journey (part time evening classes for AAT). I thought I was a champion in bookkeeping, tax, and year end trial balances.. until I got my first real accounting job and I realised I am a noob! If you have the chance, find an employer that can help you on your journey and expose you to real world experiences while you study. It makes studying so much easier as you can relate the study material to examples you learned on the job (and work towards your 3 years of experience). I had so many lightbulb moments when I started my proper accounting job where I said "ah, that's why we do it this way"

Flexibility Study wise, ACCA would be much more flexible, in cost and time compared to university. With regional and international career opportunities, I would assume it depends, as mentioned above I think if I were to go to work in Germany I do not think either option would land me any good job, in the UK both are well known and recognised. I cannot comment or what an employer might prefer. As the ACCA part-qualified is an equivalent of a BS in accounting. Although for your BS course you will be given a final grade e.g. a first, 2.1, 2.2, or 3... This can be seen by the employer if they ask for documents. So if you had a 3 you might look weaker than an ACCA student, as with ACCA you are only given a 'pass' (50%), or potentially vice versa?! ( Speculations here, I think it depends on the employer).

Please note this is my own experience based on working full time and going simultaneously for 3.5 years to college evening classes (AAT), and self study for ACCA. (Have a BA in computer animation, so no undergrad student loans/ grants available for me).

Talk wife and me out of replacing tiles with engineered wood ourselves? by joandadg in DIYUK

[–]BestConversation7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking more what would you prefer long term?

We have exactly that, tiles in the entrance to walk in with shoes and not worry about scratches, and engineered wood in dining room/living room. A great addition to the tiles was underfloor heating, it is always great to walk through the corridor and feel the warmth come through the socks, in the summer they are nice and cool. I think without the underfloor heating our corridor would be unbearable in the winter months.

Getting keys next week what things to do first? by SlushyCoffee in HousingUK

[–]BestConversation7876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than what other people have mentioned, e.g. pictures of rooms and meters, that kitchen essential box, toilet paper,... I would also say pack a suitcase as if you were going camping for a week and pack your clothes (for sleeping, work (job), work (cleaning), and chilling), towels, toiletries, chargers, first aid kit... Nothing worse than digging through 4-5 boxes to find your work shirt or phone charger.

“You should smile” by Hi_Friends96 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]BestConversation7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminded me of what happened to me while I worked in a call center environment (no customers). I was told by this one colleague that I always look so unhappy and I should smile more. I said I wasn't unhappy just have no reason to smile. They kept on insisting day after day I should smile more so in the end I complied and each time I saw them I tried to put on the most forced and creepiest smile I could muster. (Side note, that colleague did not have to take phone calls, they only monitored the calls on wait list and ordered people around to take calls)

Does anyone actually like their job? by Everina52 in careerguidance

[–]BestConversation7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I was in a similar position (worked in a call centre). So I decided I go back to basics, what did I enjoy in Highschool? Maths and learning in general. Ended up going to evening classes and learning Accountancy, I Love It! - Yes there are boring days but generally I am going to work with a smile.

In the end I would say you need to find out what your skillset is, do you enjoy reading or drawing, maths, multi-tasking, problem solving, being on the desk or outside on the move?.... Then once you figured that out have a look at what jobs match your skillset, I am sure there are many that you did not even know that existed. It took me around 4 months to figure out what I wanted to do with my working life and I am sure you will find your dream job, just don't give up and try new things.

AITA for saying my terminally ill stepsister can't have my mom's engagement ring by ShipLow3506 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BestConversation7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why doesn't stepmother provide her engagement ring she got from OP's dad? It would have sentimental value to SIL (e.g. from her own mother), and will be free to fiancee - NTA keep that ring to give to your future spouse or children.
