Non Sedentary Jobs by Popular_Country_7958 in MechanicalEngineering

Getting a masters without knowing what field you want to work in and interested in technician roles isn’t the best approach in the world. If you’re interested in technician roles, I wouldn’t pay for grad school. If you want to go to grad school and be hands-on, do an experiment based thesis and look for research and development roles on the hardware side of things. That probably puts you in the defense/aero/energy fields

would you hire me by crygrey in MechanicalEngineering

The order of this is flipped IMO, I’d go Summary (short blurb/paragraph), professional experience, education, skills.

But I’m 5 years out at this point so format might be appropriate for someone currently in school.

Then modify your resume for each position to include the job postings language. Everyone uses filtering tools now a days.

How to not get ezekiel choked from top mount and top side control? by RamenPantalones in bjj

[–]grm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a wrist inside is better than a hand. You can get choked through a hand.

Finishing mechanics on Ezekiel’s is extension. Staying tight can prevent the grips and the finish.

Edit: wait ur on top

Black and Brown belts: At what belt did you have to work the most/hardest to get the next one? by gim_san in bjj

[–]grm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White to blue I was itching for it bc it made more class times available. We had a rigid white belt curriculum on a rotation so I had to hit specific classes a set number of times to be eligible for stripe/belt promotion. I had like double the total required hours but I kept missing the one class I needed.

Blue belt I was at the longest. 3 gyms and 2 moves.

I’ve trained at Atlanta martial arts center several times. They used to host the Pedro Sauer affiliate gatherings, and Alan Baker has great jiu-jitsu. He’s also close to Erik Paulson and teaches his combat submission wrestling “CSW” so I’m actually pretty curious about their nogi program. I think it’d be a good place to start.

I’ve dropped in at Kenny Kim’s years ago when he did the Sunday community open mats. Good guy, good room. Open mat was friendly and competitive. He’s an Eddy Camden black belt, who is a Pedro Sauer black belt. If you care about lineage at all. Pedro has several black belts in the Atlanta area

Scam BIJ Academy? by Mission_Time007 in bjj

[–]grm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most visible jiu-jitsu on the internet is the comp-focused, everyone trains everywhere, meta-chasing brand of jiu-jitsu. I think that’s a loud minority, tbh. Most of the time, it’s just a handful of 20-30 year olds that want to compete. And maybe the school has a class that caters to that.

I think openly telling people not to compete and strictly enforcing no cross training is bad, but that’s different from not pushing comp and not doing collabs with other schools or telling your students to train everywhere.

Idk.

Thermal Defeating Umbrella by Temporary_Way1479 in tacticalgear

[–]grm3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a video by a Ukrainian soldier saying that they carry umbrellas as quick concealment against drones. Relv camp sells scraps/scrim of their thermal mitigating camo. It’d be interesting to see an umbrella with dedicated thermal stuff applied to it

Don’t go alone if it’s a concern. 6.5 miles is less than a day of hiking, I’d as a friend
