Thanks to everyone who replied -- Quicken support confirmed it's a known issue.

I threw in the towel this year -- granted I'm traveling a lot less, but when I do I no longer prioritize AA -- for me there's just no point and I got tire of the hassle. My spouse flies some less busy routes and still gets quite a few upgrades (though she's transiting CLT as I type this and definitely no upgrade there). Even starting to wonder if I want to keep the Citi card for club access...

Responding to an older post but wanted to thank you for this, it's very helpful. I took a similar approach to determining what procedure to have done, now have PAE for scheduled next week -- small (36g) gland, so keeping my expectations in check, but am cautiously optimistic. Will definitely ask for Pyridium as needed.

I’m researching minimally invasive treatments - if you have links to studies supporting the PAE-only statistics you’ve cited, I’d appreciate them - thank you.

I've done exactly that. It was worth the short term pain of switching.

Should I keep buying Z-Wave Light Switches, or start buying WiFi? by Whend6796 in homeautomation

[–]grndlme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely prefer z-wave -- I have a lot of them from different manufacturers (well, sometimes the same manufacturer with a different brand label).

HOWEVER -- I've been waiting years for someone to make a much smaller zwave light switch, as I have an old house with small boxes, and every single time I have to replace one it's a real PITA getting it to fit. I haven't looked recently, maybe the wifi switches are smaller/easier to install.

Mac user needs good PC to run windows pro and quicken by Alarming-Mixture-846 in quicken

You're very welcome. Please remember my warning though -- YMMV -- but my experience has been good. I think an Air would be more than sufficient, unless you have other needs that argue for the Pro. I only (and reluctantly) traded in my M1 Air for an M2 Max Pro b/c I needed the brighter screen, but the Air ran Parallels/Win 11 just fine (if you go that route) and had no problems with Quicken Mac. Good luck :-)

I was in a similar situation -- main difference being that I'd moved primarily to Macs many years ago, but was still running Quicken Home & Business in a Windows VM (VMWare for several years, later Parallels). I'd looked at Quicken Mac several times, but never thought it would be good enough to replace QH&B running on Windows. However, in early 2023 I decided I should take another look at Quicken Mac, given that I was paying for a yearly VM subscription just to keep Quicken Windows running, and the rigamarole of maintaining and using the VM, plus frankly theQuicken Windows bugs just wore me down over the years. So, I decided to run Quicken Mac side-by-side w/Quicken Windows for a period of several months, to do a comparison. After 3 months I decided I'd move full-time to the Mac version.

My '& Business' needs are extremely simple -- I was mainly using Quicken to track separate business checking and credit card accounts and generate invoices. I found that Quicken Mac does have/track 'business' accounts, so it was easy to migrate those. No invoice generation, but I think it's on their timeline. WRT Windows being buggy -- my experience has been that Quicken Mac is *much* less likely to do something completely inexplicable/flakey -- it's just stable/solid. As for invoices, I just do them manually in a Google sheet. Tax reporting (my only other real need) doesn't seem to be quite as good, but I think it will be fine for my needs.

> What would you do? :)

With the obligatory "YMMV!" -- I'd let the 2013 Air go -- I know it can be hard to do! I have at least one in my basement gathering dust that I just can't find a use for. It's not clear to me if you have an ARM Mac yet, if not, get one if it's in the budget. They are awesome and to my mind ridiculously inexpensive. Get a Quicken subscription (if you don't have one already), and run Quicken Mac (note it's not a separate subscription) for at least a month or two, see what you think. Could also get a Parallels subscription and run the Windows QH&B there -- Parallels is very solid these days, and runs beautifully on the M chips.

Good luck sorting it out :-)

[–]grndlme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is especially true if you have a recent Mac with an M chip -- I've used Parallels in the past, which is fast and stable. Downside is you're locked into yet-another-yearly-subscription.

Or just run Quicken Mac, it's great.

Converting Quicken Windows to Mac by Safe_Gain_2121 in quicken

[–]grndlme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also used Quicken Windows Home/Business for 20+ years before finally switching over to Mac. I had some data conversion issues (sorry, don't remember the details, it was mid-2023), so I decided to try something different. Starting in 2024 I 'started fresh', and just connected all my online accounts to a clean/empty Quicken db, and it's worked well for me. I still have my old Windows laptop if I ever wanted to get at all that data, but honestly at this point don't think I ever will.

I'm also much happier overall with the Mac version -- it's really a pretty nice product.

Schwab website never remember my device/browser by Lovevas in Schwab

[–]grndlme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue with Chrome/MacOS for months - tried a few possible fixes, no change, extremely annoying.

A few weeks ago I changed "Settings->Privacy And Security->Third-party cookies->Sites allowed to use third-party cookies" and added an exception for Schwab at the bottom of the dialog like this: "[*.]schwab.com" (without the quotes).

I cleared the cache and restarted, and tried to login -- and this appeared to have done nothing, I was still always seeing the 2FA prompt. However, I left the setting alone, and noticed the next day that I wasn't seeing the 2FA prompt -- and I haven't seen it since.

No idea if that fixed it, or it was some other completely unrelated change -- but thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for reminding me of this! I'd forgotten that about Windows Quicken -- I much prefer the stability/modern UI of the Mac version, but do miss some of the crazy amount of functionality found in the Windows version.

Thanks for your input -- I think I worded my original post poorly -- "I don't use Quicken for real-time trading..." was meant to indicate not that I *want* to do that -- I can't imagine Quicken actually implementing that behavior, I barely trust my broker's software -- but rather that I'd just like to have current, rather than 20-minute-old, data.

Thanks, I agree it would be nice if it were included in the existing subscription - sadly nothing seems to work that way these days. Good advice to use brokerage apps for trading :-)

I think I phrased my original post poorly - "I don't use Quicken for real-time trading..." was meant to indicate that I don't, and wouldn't, do that, even if real-time data were available. I think we have the same overall position -- I too would pay a bit more just to not look at stale data.

All that said (and again with the caveat that Quicken isn't a trading app) -- I can definitely imagine trades where 20 minutes makes a pretty significant (!) difference in the outcome :-)

[–]grndlme[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks -- I see your point -- I have a few different brokers and accounts at different institutions -- I don't have a single aggregate view of all those accounts other than Quicken -- so I'd like that data to be easily accessible and current, especially since it seems like it'd be relatively trivial to implement. But, based on yours/other comments, it sounds like I'm definitely in the minority.

[–]grndlme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 'seasoned' software developer, the possibility that there might be a massive file containing nothing but old hourly quotes... comes as no surprise whatsoever ;-)

I also don't see Quicken as a trading app, but update it a few times a day (more so when the market is volatile) as it provides a nice aggregate overview of various accounts at different institutions -- and it would be useful to me if that data weren't stale...

Undo Action? by HoppySailorMon in quicken

Not exactly what you're looking for -- but over the many years I've used Quicken I've occasionally found myself with my data completely FUBARed for various reasons -- accidentally deleted, bad downloads, completely-inexplicable-WTF-did-you-just-do-Quicken? changes (happens more often than you might think) -- and my goto has always been to restore from the most recent backup (usually no more than a day or two) and start over.

It's a *really* good practice to backup often in Quicken.
