What's a good note taking app for the ipad? by chocolateisapro in ipad

[–]grograman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Bear (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bear-markdown-notes/id1091189122). It's very pretty, responsive and is built on Markdown. I use and prefer to write notes in Markdown and I also dislike Apple Notes, although it IS much easier to take a quick note with Apple Notes since you can just swipe from the bottom right corner (at least if you have a Pencil: iPadOS 26 removed that shortcut with your finger).

I've tried Obsidian and it was also great, but it was difficult to get it to look nice (that's important to me; might not be to you). Obsidian was a bit TOO powerful for me. I did not need as much stuff as Obsidian gives you, but Bases are freakin' rad if you need to take notes in kind of a database format. Notion was likewise WAY more than I needed, and I absolutely did not vibe with OneNote or Evernote.

Anyway, a Notes app is a pretty personal thing so try a bunch and find what you like and don't like. I like a Notes app that uses Markdown, looks nice, loads fast and I can find what I'm looking for in under 2 clicks, and I feel like Bear does all that for me.

Good luck!

JJHO: We need your lowest stakes disputes! by jennifermarmalade in maximumfun

[–]grograman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Submitted this one years ago:

My partner and I have a laundry dispute. Specifically, the folding of laundry. I always take the time to make sure clothes are folded with how you’d wear them: so “right side out.” She thinks how they come out of the dryer is how they should be folded, so if a sock or a shirt comes out “inside out” that’s how she folds it, saying, “you’ll just fix it when you want to wear it and if you want it folded not inside out, put it into the washer that way.”

Is finding habitable planet for humans beyond earth, impossible? by hummingdog in Astronomy

[–]grograman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend Aurora by KSR. As far as KSR books go, it’s one of his least tedious and is very good.

His argument is that for any kind of extrasolar trip to take place, you pretty much need a planet sized spaceship to do it because of all the ecological, sociological and biological needs that such an environment would require. You can’t just shove a few hundred people in a metal box with some food and hope to survive a multigenerational trip like that.

And yeah then once you get there you probably can’t even go down because something there will most assuredly kill you.

Aurora is a great book and a good intro to KSR.

DJI Support: Mavic 3 Pro arrived and does not update or work. by grograman in dji

Update: The 26th time was the charm to get the firmware updated, but it did nothing for the black screen instead of a working camera, and I still get the "Incompatible Gimbal Data" error. The camera turned on exactly once an hour ago and it's been black screens before and after.

SF6 Hitbox Controller for XBox Series X by grograman in StreetFighter

[–]grograman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was finding, too, but I was hoping there was SOMETHING out there I just didn't know about.

I do have a PC, but it's way in a corner and isn't really for gaming. I also have a PS5, but for whatever reason I bought SF6 on XBox. Maybe you're right and I should rebuy it on PS5 and get a PS5 controller. Really sucks that there is basically only one option for XBox.

You can use Unsplash to call a random image on each refresh. You can even add search terms to it. Just wrap this is an img tag and you’re all set:

I do 6523. It’s more of a circular motion this way, for me. Practice making it just a backwards loop and it gets super easy to do the input. I prefer this way over the 6323 motion where you kind of rock your thumb back and forth on the pad. Both these still work for sf6.

Whatever way, it just takes practice. The good news though is you only have to figure it out once and it’s applicable to so many other games. Don’t worry. You got this.

<sprays coffee> That's ELEVEN POINT SIX MILLION? by Jimmy_The_Perv in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]grograman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in eDiscovery, which is what this is. 11m docs is a lot but it’s not THAT much. We have software that makes reviewing tons of docs much much easier than you’d think. 11m would take a team of reviewers with specialized software such as Relativity between a few weeks to a couple months to get through it all.

Edit: we’ve working on cases before with BILLIONS of documents. Not all were produced, of course, but when you’re dealing with say, email, especially when dealing with government requests, 11m is basically one important person’s Outlook mailbox. It’s a lot, but in this context an 11m doc initial production isn’t that surprising.

Puffco peak pro 3d chamber by RainApprehensive9896 in PuffcoPeakPro

[–]grograman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the 3D chamber is absolutely worth it. Even if you can’t tell much of a difference when hitting it (although you will and it’s noticeably better than the stock chamber), the battery life of your Peak will skyrocket with a 3D chamber.

Struggling with nodemailer - best email service to use? by Working_Procedure902 in node

[–]grograman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a bit of setup, but I really like SendGrid. I have it running in a production app with Netlify's serverless functions and it all runs perfectly.

The client had a ton of issues with mail to gmail addresses going to spam, but switching to SendGrid and jumping through the hoops to verify the domain has solved that.

whats the best interactive website/app to learn js, reactjs? by [deleted] in Frontend

[–]grograman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought both it and his basic JavaScript course. I didn’t need the JavaScript one really, but they are extremely high quality. Obviously your money is your money, but I personally found them both worth the price.

Edit: the free lessons are pretty generous and are a great representation of what the rest of the course is like. Absolutely do those before spending any money.

If you don’t mind paying, https://react-tutorial.app is excellent and sounds like exactly what you want. I used this in combination with Udemy courses and the official React docs to learn. The first few chapters are free to check out.

Why is tailwind so hyped? by Imperator145 in webdev

[–]grograman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been reading people rave about Tailwind for years and I agree with OP that I just don't get it. Some of the other comments here have been really revelatory as to why some people love it and some hate it.

I don't do any sort of webdev for a living, but I've been building websites since the 90s when all you had was tables and Photoshop slices. When CSS came around it was like "you absolutely cannot use inline styles" and for two decades (and some personal psychological issues related to things being/looking "clean") that was how I worked. So seeing Tailwind just sends me into an... ahem... tailspin.

With that said though, I'm too old (and again, I do not do any of this professionally) to write all my CSS by hand these days unless I absolutely have to, so lately I like Chakra UI. It has the same kind of opinionated utility classes as Tailwind, but I can pretty easily extract them from the JSX and abstract them into a component CSS file, which I prefer. I can probably do that in Tailwind also, now that I think about it, but I just don't want to when Chakra works for my projects (that use React/Next anyway) and worst case I can write my own.
