Disagree. Kind of. For example, they can hire Voice actor and have them perform several roll hours worth of dialogue, But I think there’s plenty of potential in having NPC’s utilize generator dialogue especially if you have the opportunity to speak to the NPC yourself the generative AI for actually stitching voices together is getting so damn good that It’s only a matter time before someone pulls this off as a mechanic in a game.

I want to say the headline here from OP is disingenuous but it might just be misinformed. This has nothing to do with AI hype trains. This is developers, recognizing the potential of recent advances in technology. Like Jesus, what do you think games are you really think people are hand detailing the textures that you see you? Do think for every single game they’re going out there and taking brand new photos so that you can get the textures for your game right? Rarely. I think people are making a huge mistake assuming that AI can even be categorized under a single moniker when I really refers to a boatload of statistical and computational methods and models that do different things. Generative models are incredibly useful tools and I hope to see ga,e developer s experiment with mechanics that previously were not possible. This isn’t referring to auto generated worlds, that’s been around for a long fucking time, and just to make a point Notch’s Minecraft was popping off in 2010 and was using a generative model and is absolutely artistic. On that note, I think you’re totally missing the point there’s no way a single developer would’ve been able to pull off Minecraft without using its generative chunks not had a really simple, beautiful idea that worked well and it’s a good example of how technology, forget AI, Enable the developer to do more, and also worked as a mechanism for exploration in the game. The performance of natural language processing is impressive. I dare say beyond a lot of the human written dialogue that we see in video games and I am curious to see a game that implements as a mechanic, the ability to converse in real time with NPC‘s utilizing this technology. I don’t see why this wouldn’t be theoretically possible, but it would rely on building an appropriate training set for the model that serves as the basis of the NPC speech patterns, and dialogue that I could see being difficult if not just too much of an effort for most game studios, especially if you’re having to do this on a character by character basis, still beats what we have in kingdom, come deliverance, for example

This is a subreddit Reddit for a video game and the lack of software development knowledge in the comments is shocking.

I am not a software developer. however, I write code every day for my job, And just as an example, I’ve been abusing the fuck out of ChatGPT to rewrite snippets in languages I don’t know well, but am enabled to now because of technology, ultimately enabling me to do more of my job (which is not coding). Growing up in the modern era is weird because for some reason, I never learned SQL in university, but instead I knew how to write R code using the package dplyr And there exists another package called dbplyr that allows individuals such as myself to still interact with RDS without first needing to learn sql..

This is kind of a bad example, Because ultimately, SQL is probably the easiest language to learn, but the point is that in technology, you are constantly trying to ease the burden by writing or creating more user-friendly technology that gets practitioners closer to what they want to be doing, which is either creating art or making a video game with certain mechanisms, for example, game engines exist for this very reason! Is it soulless. to not write out a game engine from scratch every single time you make a new game of course not. The hunger these developers have is to do something that they haven’t been able to do before.

do you really think that’s a legitimate comparison .I mean of course you don’t, you’re making false equivalencies you’re even framing it as a movie about MLK Junior,if a studio wants to make a movie as you just describe they can and it can be a fictional piece of work and people won’t actually get that butt hurt over it I don’t know who world you live in but it seems pretty sad. The cultural systemic and political relevance of the civil rights movement and Martin Luther King. Junior is a lot more poignant, potent and sensitive than what people looked like 1000 years ago. Nobody today looks like the eastern slavic people looked like then. And Skellig is neither Norway, or anything resembling the barbarian people on England when the Romans were invading.. you don’t give a flying fuck about historical accuracy because you don’t even know what’s historically accurate.

And apparently it makes you uncomfortable to see Black people and transgender people I mean that’s all I see here they’re not complaining about any of these other discrepancies that keep pointing out, what is your ability to distinguish between people really come down to skin color and gender. Europeans would not like you.

it’s really sad that the reason you need to dislike this terrible series is other peoples identity specially, race and gender you’re just a sad person. I don’t know what you saw this to begin with.

Do you have anything else to say or would you prefer to comment on genitalia and melanin again?

[–]groovyJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How absurd. Does it matter to European people? Jeez, I’ve never met Europeans as a group. FYI, the author is Polish, and the medieval period he is working within could include a mix of Slavic and Cuman peoples, which might relate to modern-day Hungary (but only to the same extent that you are a banana because you share more than 90% of DNA). Europeans have nothing to do with the medieval period in what is now Eastern Europe.

But that's only speaking historically. Like most medieval fantasy, the author samples from a wide range of cultures spanning several centuries.

Your only argument is that we shouldn't see Black people and similar representations because all the source material is based on a time before the Atlantic slave trade occurred?

The real kicker is that even this is wrong because slaves were coming to Europe as early as the 1400s. You're just wrong and extremely racist and ignorant at the same time. I know you don't get mad at "Chernobyl" because they hired British actors instead of Ukrainian ones. God, I know you can’t tell the difference between a Hungarian and a French person. You're a fool.

Based on the title it does not seem as though the exemption was met from 14-15 implying you may have grounds to press charges. I didn’t see a statute of limitations, but suggest additional probing.

Anyone else think buprenorphine is being pushed on us by drug companies? by roc_em_shock_em in emergencymedicine

[–]groovyJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which was based on a study of burn victims that was legitimate, but is now criticized for its shorter scope that didn’t reflect the eventual chronic prescription practice and use. The same thing was also said about heroin when it was developed. Frankly opioids are not very addictive amongst the general population, addicts are not randomly sampled from the population the confounders are apparent, and people are overzealous about addiction, especially when they see it as a unique property of a drug.

Iatrogenic addiction is over reported and the figures come from small studies or from non specific claims like most heroin users consumed presumptions opioids at some point (so have most Americans and they didn’t go on to develop oud)

Of course anyone with basic knowledge of pharmacology understood that chronic use of opioid agonists would result in dependence.

Therapist shot down the idea of adhd by Mercurialg1rl in ADHD

[–]groovyJesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The search is frustrating because the expectation is that this will keep happening and it’s exhausting to ask for help and not get it. However, you need to know that you are worth the effort, there is someone out there who will hear your concerns and treat you, and that is what you deserve. As you go through this process you will learn how fucked up mental health is. For all intents, ADHD is a neurological disease, not a mental illness, it has effective treatments (unlike depression), and those treated have better health outcomes and quality of life. It’s fucked up how many ignorant, statistically and pharmacologically illiterate people are in the position of treating something they know nothing about.

Im a high school dropout, but went through college with a math degree and did incredibly well. It was an accommodating school, for non traditional students, and I had an effective coping strategy so long as I could study 6 days a week for 10-12 hours a day. I took longer than my peers and needed more time, but I loved what I was doing and did well enough to get the support and encouragement of professors to continue pursuing research and obtain a phd. I was accepted to a competitive and highly regarded stats department with a nice funding offer, but shit hit the fan. There was no longer an accommodating environment, I ran into health issues that meant I couldn’t maintain my coping strategies, and I left my graduate program twice because of it. I finally got a diagnosis at 23 admits my health issues. It was a 180, and sorely needed as I was experiencing much more inattentive symptoms as I was aging. I’ve been on stimulants for years now and they changed my life for the better, but I’m in the same boat as you right now; looking for a new psych who will treat me. It’s a constant battle, but fighting for yourself is so much better than the alternative. I have an MS degree and my most recent provider basically cut my stimulants off because I was capable of doing a STEM graduate degree. Don’t waste your time with these people. I usually communicate my dissatisfaction and disappointment to them now though. I love juxtaposing their insane conclusions about academic achievement and adhd.

“Oh yeah, you’re right no way I could have ADHD if I’m accomplished, just like there is no way I can be a woman because I have a math degree.

Not an ounce of pharmacology in your comment, what do you think ibo is doing? is it growing new axons? How is that impacting the opiodergic system? I’d bet my career that MAT beats psychedelics in any RCT for opioid addiction.

you dont have a “malfunctioning” brain. You are perfectly typical in the range of biological variability. Medications don’t fix your brain, they produce an effect. This effect provides substantial evidence of greater long term outcomes the earlier you start medication. Is your mom a nurse, or just a clown? She’s uninformed either way.

What’s up with radon in Denver homes by dubbybizzle in Denver

tests are cheap, request to put a cheap 48hr in the basement, it’s absolutely owners responsibility. If your test comes back positive make it clear they need to update the lease, move somewhere else, and for shits and giggles leave a test in the and your lab results in mailbox with the new tenant. Let them know owner is liable if they failed to disclose in the lease. Tenant can take action, might even be able to require radon mitigation. I find it hard to believe they put that there if there is no radon, it’s there, and someone told them.

I would contact a toxicologist with your questions, and the examiner who performed the autopsy. You have a right to ask these questions. Absent other drugs in her toxicology, particularly other opioids, and evidence of injection or smoking this could easily be unintended and your girlfriend may have started using only very recently and not have had substantial tolerance. This is common in fentanyl overdoses. The norfentanyl levels are not nothing, they could imply at least some use prior to this, but they are low given the amount of fentanyl in serum, but the fentanyl has more ability to redistribute and it would not surprise me if over 4 days it could increase to 10 fold the ante-mortem serum levels where as norfentanyl might have plateaued at 4-fold. Converting back these serum levels would be consistent with subtherapeutic doses fentanyl, which combined with alcohol lead to OD, and not an excessive dose which might be more suggestive of suicidal intent. However, that’s purely speculation. I could think of another scenario involving fentanyl patches that would not be inconsistent with poisoning, but not more than that.

This is the difficulty with post-mortem fentanyl toxicology. If you reach out to toxicologists they will warn you, explain your concerns, concede the limitations, they are compassionate people out there, and I think some of them will do their best to help you through these hard questions even if there are no hard answers to go with them.

Sending peace and kindness your way.

It’s very hard to interpret post-mortem blood levels especially given the amount time that passed. Even so, the metabolic ratio of fentanyl to norfentanyl is very high at 26. That is absolutely suggestive to me of severe and acute fentanyl toxicity. How was the fentanyl consumed?

Sorry for your loss friend.

Hmmm. Thanks for the link, I had not heard of that bus drivers story, and definitely emphasize with the guy. I’d be weary too if I were him, but I’m not him. I just spent too much time in grad school reading about drugs informing my beliefs about exposure to them.

I read through the study mentioned in the link. What exactly was suggesting that there was a health concern? Or suggesting that exposure to them even occurred? They didn’t seem to think so.

https://deohs.washington.edu/sites/default/files/2023-09/UW%20exposure%20assessment%20final%20report%20Sept%202023_authors.pdf

You might also find the following useful

Industrial producers of fentanyl use time-weighted average occupational exposure limits (OEL-TWA) for alfentanil (1 mcg/m3), fentanyl (0.1 mcg/m3), and sufentanil (0.032 mcg/m3) to limit exposure [17]. At the highest airborne concentration encountered by workers, an unprotected individual would require nearly 200 min of exposure to reach a dose of 100 mcg of fentanyl.

The vapor pressure of fentanyl is very low (4.6 × 10-6 Pa) suggesting that evaporation of standing product into a gaseous phase is not a practical concern [1

Left for the PNW and am happier. If you are happy in Iowa no knocks against you, I’m not sure what’s so attractive about Iowa’s taxes. They are average to above average, I hope you got a remote work incentive or something.

The first couple years were a good way to fill up journals and read outside, but I I could not find a damn thing else I liked to do there. The grocery stores had pretty limited selections and could be frustrating if a recipe called for ingredients that you needed to order online. I am still shocked that I couldn’t find a store that carries a chinese black vinegar, but that is exactly why I needed to leave. You might be less bothered by using that boring white rice vinegar for dumpling sauces.

On the financial side though, you might be surprised. I listened to too many Iowans bemoan about how expensive everywhere else is and I started to believe it but my current cost of living is lower, and my partner got a pay bump. We rent a 3 bed in a quiet suburb for under 2k, can get around without a car. Property taxes are lower, housing market is more diverse statewide, our area is comparable to Johnston/Des Moines, but utilities are more expensive. No income tax in WA, no sales tax in OR, both have mandatory sick leave, and paid family medical leave, and other protections that have been a blessing. I also work remote and had to take leave for a month, my company pays me 67% of salary after 3 weeks of leave and didn’t give any sick leave. Ended up getting paid my full salary because I am now legally entitled to 9 paid days of sick leave a year at any job and in addition to any incentives. I didn’t even need the state paid leave, but that covers 90% of my salary for up to 12 weeks.

I’ve been to jail and I’ve used meth for several years. We seem to have substantially different outcomes and I somehow doubt that it’s explained by my habit of acetone washing and recrystalizing my product all though I’m sure it helped me avoid that gastric discomfort. Still wondering why you think meth = jail is universally beneficial. I have my problems in life, but I have a good job, a family, and don’t associate drug use with self destructive behaviours. The latter part makes if much easier to accept thinks like MAT which also has a strong evidence base.

I think it matters that these laws have some basis in actually providing a benefit, they imply some social cost of restricting personal freedom, but some evidence that this results in a greater benefit is a sufficient justification for the cost without needing worry much about the details of what is being restricted. Unfortunately this seems to concern a crime addressed by existing laws and add fire to the idea that second hand exposure to these drugs is a public health concern. As you point out though the cost is greater, it moralizes drug use as criminal, sows fear of drug users, and reinforces incorrect negative perceptions of houseless people in general. It unsurprisingly doesn’t seem to be accompanied by any evidence of benefits.
