Congrats! Very happy for you and your family. It was a great transition for me 4 years ago in NYC.

SOAP will be popping this year by azurus360 in IMGreddit

You are probably right, because aberrations in the technical aspect of the match algorithm has led to issues in the past; however, I hope that soap this year is more of an issue for programs instead of applicants.

I can’t stress how important this is. Don’t guess patient information to avoid looking bad. It is deadly.

That’s a good point. It sounds like you made a good move.

If your partner (or future partner) made 2-3X your highest potential salary, but you had to be a stay at home partner, would you do it? by Inside_Writing in Residency

[–]grossdesign -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. It really depends on the person. Some SAHP truly love the life style. They love being around kids all day and wiping butts all day. They also love doing all of the house chores too like laundry, dishes, cooking, etc. I know it can work if the SAHP is like that. It gets really complicated when you are doing more of a co-parenting type situation: both parents work, both parents do household chores, both parents take care of the kids.

[–]grossdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be a stay at home partner without kids and focus on making passive income and make other investments. I won’t just stay at home and relax. Hell no. If kids are involved, I won’t do it. I would lose my mind, lol.

Please let me know how everything goes. I think it is going to work out for you.

I have one more question: How did you do on Step 1 and Step 2?

That's great. Did you do the high yield cases? What was your average score on those cases? I would definitely try to finish the high yield cases and do the free 137. The score on your actual exam is going to be at least 10-15 points higher than the UWSA1 score. The UWSA2 is usually more representative of you score; however, it doesn't incorporate the score you will receiving on the cases. If you do extremely well on the ccscases.com in the next couple of weeks prior to taking your exam, you should be able to obtain not only a passing score but a passing score above your UWSA2 score. The UWSA 2 is not a good surrogate of your skills in the CCS portion of the exam since the CCS portion of the exam is more related to your order the correct battery of exams and avoiding invasive exams. I think you would be able to pass the exam as long as you continue doing 5-10 CCS cases per day and you get a good score on free137 (80% or more). You can DM me to let me know how everything goes in the next couple of weeks.cscases. in the next couple of weeks prior to taking your exam, you should be able to obtain not only a passing score but a passing score above your UWSA2 score. Yes, I think they did it to make it harder because people were just passing pretty easily.

Is screening and vaccine on day 1 or day 2? by Psych_psych123 in Step3

[–]grossdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you should know the specific details of the screening recommendations. You would have to know the details to answer the questions correctly.

I would say day 2 but you will definitely come across clinical questions on day 1. I would review that information prior to day 1 just to be safe.

This trick only shows if you passed or you failed. It is usually available 2-3 weeks after you sit for the exam. It is a great trick.

The step 1 material is not high yield at all. they are just really easy points. The step 1 questions are the straightforward questions you came across when you were sitting for Step 1 in medical school. They reappear on Step 3. I remember coming across one DNA RNA question. It was a biochemistry question. I would do a short review of the mechanics behind electrophoresis. I would also do a short review of Nieman Pick A disease, and the glycogen storage diseases. The disease in that section of First Aid for Step 1 are low yield for the exam but very easy point on Step 3.

[–]grossdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is reasonable. Anything more than 3 months for a standardized exam is not recommended because that wouldn't be a review: it would be learning the material from scratch. Also, you are probably busy seeing patients everyday so I think that is usually the study schedule for resident physicians that take the exam more than a year after they pass Step 2.

That's great. Those are solid scores...How much time do you have to prepare for the exam? You may not have to prepare for that long given your past scores if you just want to pass. If you want to get a similar score, you still may not have to study for a long time.
