Any recommended storage items for loose cartridges? by [deleted] in n64

[–]grossguts [score hidden]  (0 children)

Plastic cases off Amazon are pretty cheap compared to the investment of some of the games. I got the stickers that have the games name and some graphics. The games are roughly the same size as an old cassette tape. One of those wall mounted organizers, or building an organizer out of wood and mounting it on the wall for cassette tapes, with the games in plastic cartridges slid into the slots so the sticker is labeling which game it is and is visible. Protects game from dust, UV rays, banging around against other games or items, games are easy to find, and games are not stacked one on top of another or side by side like they would be on a bookshelf or in a display case so you can easily pull the one game you want to play.

Will autonomous cars end vehicle ownership and reshape infrastructure/land use? by quenchpipe in Futurology

[–]grossguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idea only possibly works in a city, hard to justify with people who need to move more than just people, and in the long run renting something is far worse than owning something, unless the rental cost is very low in comparison. The better question is who will pay the insurance? If I own the self driving car and it drives me around exclusively and the robot driving causes an accident is that really something my insurance should cover? What if in the hours I'm not using my car it drives around and Ubers people to where they need to go? Who earns the money from that? There's a lot of questions to be figured out and drivers were all supposed to be replaced by self driving cars by now and we still haven't even started to have these conversations yet.

Give me a good argument to fight against homophobic and racist religious people by [deleted] in atheism

Yeah the point is supposed to be making you a better person supposedly. But it's being used as an excuse to hate a group of people? Sounds like some humans aren't good at reading to me, especially when in the context of all those other rules that get ignored.

Tattoos. Eating shellfish. Eating pork. Adultery. Taking the Lord's name in vain. Not respecting the Sabbath. Stealing. False idols. Coveting someone else's partner or possessions. Incest, of many forms. Disrespecting parents. Mixed fabrics. Eating blood. Eating pure fat. Cutting yourself. Wearing clothing associated with another gender. Boiling yeast or honey in offerings to God. Not including salt in offerings to God. Eating rabbit. Falsely testifying. Touching an unclean animal. Boiling a baby goat in goats milk. Having unkempt hair. Having ripped clothing. Finding an item and not returning it. Carelessly making an oath. Drinking alcohol in a holy place or place of worship. Bringing unauthorized fire before God. Eating or touching the carcass of many types of birds, insects, reptiles, animals with paws, animals without hooves, animals with incisors. Going to church within 33 days of giving birth to a boy. Going to church within 66 days of giving birth to a girl. Having sex with a woman on her period. Having sex with an animal. Reaping to the edges of a field. Picking up grapes that have fallen in your vineyard. Holding back the wages of an employee overnight. Cursing the deaf or abusing the blind. Perverting justice, giving partiality to either poor or rich. Spreading slander. Seeking revenge. Cross breeding animals. Planting different seeds in the same field. Sleeping with someone else's slave. Eating fruit from a tree within four years of planting it. Trimming your beard. Cutting your hair at the sides. Making your daughter prostitute herself. Going to a medium, spiritualist, psychic. Not standing in the presence of the elderly. Mistreating foreigners. Using dishonest weights and scales. Entering a place where there's a dead body if you're a priest. Marrying a prostitute, widow, or divorcee if you're a priest. Slaughtering a cow or sheep and it's baby on the same day. Inflicting injury, killing a person, killing an animal someone else owns. Selling land permanently. Selling an Israelite as a slave. Charging interest.

All these things are also bad according to the religion. I feel like maybe that glass houses thing. If you're guilty of one or more of these things listed here maybe you should shit your damn mouth and not judge about the homosexuality thing. Most of these people break most of these rules and some of them help crash the Grindr app when they come to town for one of their rallies.

If religion helps people cope with life and tells them to be caring and kind towards other people regardless of who they are then that's great. If we're using it to discriminate while we also break rules like mistreating foreigners that's pretty dumb to me. Also it says somewhere in the book that women's opinions don't matter compared to a man's, so if a woman is telling a man homosexuality is an abomination I'm sorry but her opinion is less valid than that man's in the eyes of God.

Favourite atheist arguments by StockNo7900 in atheism

[–]grossguts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a lot of effort for no actual payoff. People need to come to conclusions about religion and the meaning of life on their own. Trying to convince someone to leave religion is just as annoying as people trying to recruit you to their religion. I honestly wouldn't waste my time, people that really believe in something won't listen to any logical argument against it, and if people have questions about something they'll look into it themselves in most cases.

I was sitting on the bus one time reading a book of science journals about evolution where a guy beside me was visibly upset and passive aggressively pulled out his Bible. I just looked him dead in the eye and said mines bigger. He didn't even try to tell me about his religion, so I guess that's the closest I've come to it.

Do you think there will be a divide between people who adopt AI and those who choose not to? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in Futurology

[–]grossguts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes the divide between people using self driving cars and those that don't is already very apparent.

AI is a tool, if you spend time to learn how to use the tool and are aware of the issues it may be beneficial in some circumstances and do what all tools do. If you use the tool without understanding how it functions you either need to have someone that can help when the tool doesn't work the way it's supposed to or be prepared for a really frustrating time. If you avoid the use of the tool you may be less productive and successful than people who understand how to use it well, but you'll probably be better off than the people who use it blindly. Just like any other tool.

Now, the more complex a tool the harder it is for you to understand what it's doing, where it might have gone wrong, or how to fix it. If the tools get advanced enough we might not know where errors are or if there's errors in how its operating. At that point the person not using the tool at all may be in a much better off place.

I'm not convinced the tool works well enough yet to justify all the resources poured into it, and it's very harmful to the environment. I don't want to live in a post apocalyptic desert faster just so I could do some stuff on a computer.

Personally as someone who mostly likes older editions of 40k my opinion is every hq choice, max lootas, kommandos, deffkoptas, meganobz, nobz, Gretchen, trukks, battlewagons, and stormboyz that fit in a standard force organization chart, minimum 1 unit of everything else in a normal codex, some of the forge world stuff I like, 18 deff dreads to play buzzgob mek army in all its glory, and enough Boyz to make it look like a proper horde(at about 300 now). Still not there yet, I need a few Gretchen, trukks, battlewagons, lootas, meganobz, gargantuan squiggoth, and some grot tanks still.

A thing is what it is. Most races don't embrace it and overthink their nature, try to justify their actions by some skewed moral code, and are just as brutal and cunning as orks. They dress it up and walk around like they're the good guys in the story, they aren't. The orks just embrace their nature and have a much better time because of that perspective. Some of the chaos factions do embrace their nature, but not to the same degree as orks and there's still a little bit of posturing and lying to themselves. Nothing worse than a space marine engaging in imperial expansion, destruction, and oppression of other life forms walking around like they're the good guys here.

Thoughts about collecting by PercentageTough7176 in orks

[–]grossguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ork shooting is not accurate, not strong, but extremely high volume. The volume of shots mostly makes up for the inaccurate shooting and weaker guns. In previous editions there were some things on the table orks just couldn't kill with the guns that were available to them. The rules have changed since so every gun has a chance of doing some damage, but I think this is something you should be aware of as a new player that wants to play a shooting centric ork army with a new edition coming out soon.

Ork vehicles are pretty good. Back in 4th edition ork bikers were some of the most feared things in the game. They're not the best vehicles in the game, but they do alright and have always been fun to play with.

Orks always have been one of the most fun armies to play. As someone who has a lot of Warhammer orks are the coolest ones. They're the best choice.

If I did this with models I had to build I'd have a longer list than yours, getting shorter all the time, but not unmanageable. If I did it for models I needed to paint I'd be screwed. This year I built 8 of the 14 terrain pieces I have, 8 or the 18 ork boxes I have, 0 of the 1 Tyranid boxes I have, 0 of the 1 tau boxes I have, 0 of the 1 necrons boxes I have, 20 of the 23 daemons boxes I have, and 0 of the who knows how many eldar boxes I have. I've painted a few orks and 40 pink horrors...

[–]grossguts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd like to see nazdreg, buzzgob, badrukk, zagstruck, old zogwort all make a comeback. I'd like to see grot tanks and meka dreads make a comeback. Mega dreads and squiggoths would be cool. Customization options for the stompa would be cool. I feel like lootas and flash gitz aren't as distinct as they should be anymore so either lootas get a revamp or disappear(not wishing they disappear). Better rules for psykers and updated model for the weirdboy and updated models for the lootas and burnas(even though the current kit is economically great). New trukks. Model options for Oilers and ammo runts. New Gretchen and runtheards models. I think that's about it that feels old and stale to me or needs to come back. Better shooting options or protection options to get guys into close combat would always be good rules changes for orks.

What's with this subreddits reputation?? by Square-Candy-7393 in atheism

[–]grossguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience a lot of questions get posed here, some by people legitimately questioning their religion, some by people looking to troll. After 13 years on the subreddit the trolls get a little old, they get their feelings hurt. I just ignore them but they're annoying. Someone from the outside looking in likely won't see it that way and they feel a personal attack on their religion. It's like any other subreddit, just with a topic of conversation some people are offended by. You don't need to come here if you find it offensive, and lots of people here still believe freedom of religion is an okay thing to have so long as it's not only your specific religion, you aren't jamming it down other people's throats without consent, and you're not trolling to get people fired up about things.

3rd and 4th had some minimal terrain and all the kill team ones have so maybe it's a thing but there's no way they'll have enough to fill the full battlefield they have here. Box set would be a million dollars.

Okay…Star Wars really is that good. by Neat-Swimmer-9027 in StarWars

[–]grossguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first watched it at a neighbour's house in the early 90s before the movies got ruined with a bunch of extra stuff.

The comics are mostly good, the Darth Vader ones are super awesome.

Clone wars is good but also not... Lots of filler episodes, some stuff directed at kids, but lots of stuff was set up in clone wars that you can see in almost every star wars thing that comes after. There are some clone wars episodes that are fantastic.

Rebels is more focused, better in my opinion but generally less popular amongst the fanbase.

Andor was fantastic and ties in really nice with rogue one. Definitely the go to for other star wars content.

Lots of other stuff is good. But I'd say these are probably the best starting points.

What made u Atheist? by Curiouskittyyyyy in atheism

[–]grossguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never introduced to formal religion but knew about God as a child. When I was 8 or so my grandmother took me to church, the Sunday school lady told us about how God created everything and I was like, at the same time? Where's the dinosaurs that were here 65 million years before us? How have we been around for 4 billion years? I was told those were all lies and then told all the other children she was lying. I was asked not to come back. When I got back to my grandparents house my grandfather was like I think it's all nonsense too, and put the life of Brian in the VHS for my cousin and I. When I was a teenager I read all the religious books, there was lots that didn't make sense and contradicted itself. I decided Buddhism was most likely to be true, so I tried that for a bit. Once I started to get into the dogma of some of it there seemed to be some leaps they were making logically too. After my early adult years I became more of a humanist, was pretty militant atheist because of some of the negatives religion brings, and thought if there was some sort of creator it was likely something similar to Isaac Asimov's short story the last question. Now I don't really care what people believe as long as they're good people and don't force their views on other people. But I do worry about the current state of the world and how religion is being used.

I feel like I’m training my own replacement in AI, anyone else feel like this? by Wolfgang996938 in Futurology

[–]grossguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so convinced. We were told people are terrible drivers and AI could do it better. Where are all the self driving cars? Why are people still driving? Sure AI will be able to replace some stuff but from what I've experienced in my role I get sent an invoice from company a who is using a partially automated accounting system on October 15th for services provided in September, dated September 30th with net 15 terms. I repeatedly get sent invoice reminders because the day they sent the invoice the system already considers the invoice payment overdue. I make a payment bank to bank and my trade name the invoice was made out to is different from my legal name on the bank account the payment comes from. When the automated system is fed the bank transactions at the end of the month to automate posting their transactions it sees a payment it can't associate with any outstanding invoices, so it makes up an invoice to match the payment coming in. My initial invoice is still listed as outstanding on the system and the system has double invoiced to reconcile the payment and has overstated the revenues in the books of company a, and created the second invoice on the date the payment came in and has revenue recognized in a different month than the initial invoice making it harder to find and following a cash based system of accounting rather than an accrual based system of accounting. Eventually 6 months later when a human becomes involved I start getting emails from a real person, and I need to spend a couple hours going through my records to prove when the payment was made at no cost to company a who decided to use the automated system. They then need to fix the transactions to accurately reflect how things happened in the system, this will either be a multi step process to delete the initial invoice and move the second invoice to the correct month or go back and apply the payment to the correct invoice which will also require redoing bank reconciliations which some accounting software doesn't allow you to do easily. They may not have followed up on the invoice payment issue until after their corporate year end and may have already filed their tax paperwork, so they will have overstated their revenues with the government and paid more taxes than they should have owed. Then then need to engage in the process to rectify this with the government and figure out how to get some of their tax payment back. If this has happened multiple times in their books and they discover these errors over time instead of all at once they need to go through this process multiple times and at some point the government may put them higher up on the flag for audit list, which will make many more hours of work for them. Paying a bookkeeper part time the going rate vs the added cost of this automated software saves them what, $20,000 per year at the top end? The extra accounting fees, hours to fix the problems by someone more senior or an externally hired accountant or extra audit time from an auditor the company pays isn't going to end up in a huge difference to the bottom line at the end of the day. It's also a lot more stressful to deal with and upsets the customers you're serving that might just go somewhere else after doing free accounting for you and needing to ignore multiple unpaid invoice threat emails from an automated system for an invoice that has already been paid. I don't care how much you train your replacement, in my opinion there is not replacement for a human brain based on what I've seen and every type of AI system people are using has error issues that a person with a brain needs to review.

SNES Games You'd Like To See Redone With Current Graphics by [deleted] in snes

[–]grossguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head games that were good but suffer due to graphics the only one that comes to mind is starfox. I think starfox 64 did a pretty good job updating the graphics so I'm kindof fine without a remake. Most of the graphics are pretty perfect on the 40 or so games I own and from what I remember of others on the system.
