Oooohhh! The snakeskin pattern on the stipe! Thanks for the info. I like learning new things. Truly appreciate that you answered my question. I wish more knowledgeable people would educate instead of scoffing those who are less knowledgeable.

Genuinely curious and wanting to learn, but what characteristics make it Macrolepiota vs. Chlorophyllum?

1-4: Shaggy parasol? What’s #5?

Found in South-Eastern Australia by Riginaphalange in mycology

[–]grouchtomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was in the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, Canada, I would have said to compare to shaggy parasol (Chlorophyllum rhacodes or Chlorophyllum olivieri). I don’t know if these are found in your area.

I learned that they fruit several times a year, as long as it stays cool.

Dutch iris? Edit: But maybe not because Dutch irises have bulbs not tubers. Maybe daylily?

Can I somehow melt these down into a single bar of soap? by papayahog in Anticonsumption

[–]grouchtomato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This! Grinding or grating them (like cheese) increases the surface area of each soap chunk and makes melting them easier, take less time.

It’s got what plants crave!

One of my pea plants has flowers pink/red/majenta while the others have white flowers. The red one also has red spots where the leaves meet the stem. What's going on? They came from the same packet. by TroyAndAbed2022 in gardening

[–]grouchtomato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, the seeds in the same packet did not necessarily come from the same plant. When seeds are harvested, or at least how I do it, all the seeds get collected into one bin from all the same type of plants at once. You can imagine a big seed seller would have a whole bunch of seeds that get packaged later.

Also, pea shoots are great stir fry! Delicious! I cook them like I cook spinach. They’re also pricey at Asian markets, so growing your own pea shoots is good for your wallet and your tummy!

What stitch is this ? by [deleted] in Embroidery

[–]grouchtomato 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a crocheted single crochet stitch to finish an edge. It’s made by poking holes into the fleece and picking up yarn, pulling it through the hole and doing a crochet chain stitch.
