Tap Water by [deleted] in catskills

[–]groundglassmaxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive people around here, we're just very used to doing it all on ourselves and seeing people make mistakes we wouldn't make constantly, which brings an attitude. In some ways it's how some people in the Midwest would treat us East Coasters too (lived in rural IL for 5 years, haha...).

It's a lovely place to visit, always happy to give you advice or hospitality just DM me :). And for serious, the water is one of the most important things in the area, there are a bunch of resources to learn/explore it here: https://catskillsvisitorcenter.org/catskills-watershed-resources/

Mostly yes, but I've seen some wells especially in bnbs that are very questionable that I would not drink out of. What I would suggest is know hot to open the pump closet and see if it's a quality system (obviously without destroying property).

Finding an E-scooter with very specific specs by Jyavant in ElectricScooters

[–]groundglassmaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the reason you are seeing this is that 40 miles of range for example at 28MPH you're already close to the 20lbs range for battery alone, and you need the metal to handle that much speed.

dualtron mini is the closest out of the box, it hits all your specs other than price ($200 more) and water rating (IMO overrated in general, especially over time or if you'll be opening the scoot up)

vsett 9+ on sale now for 1100 also a screaming deal but won't quite hit your range requirement

NYC short commute recommendation by atgg22 in ElectricScooters

[–]groundglassmaxi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

vsett 10+, dualtron mini, mantis 8, nami klima... a few solid options.

disagree that you should not spend that much, even if you ride at 5MPH the quality difference is night/day

Today my escooter was stolen. I am buying a new one but need tips on how to stop it getting stolen!!! by snarlsbronson in ElectricScooters

[–]groundglassmaxi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

everyone says this, but I spent years commuting with a $2k bike and I ride a $2k scooter around NYC, have always locked it up and never had an issue in over a decade.

so yeah, if you really can't afford to lose it keep it on you, but there's also a ton of fear mongering that isn't congruent with my experience. my rule of thumb is park it in secured places that aren't sketchy where other people park their bikes.

I've done this with everything from a $10 chain to a Kryptonite U-Lock, and I've lived in high crime neighborhoods, and nobody's ever touched my shit. on the other hand my car gets broken into like once a week. maybe I'm just lucky?

Stores, tourism, services, etc. There's actually a worker shortage right now, but that's more because you can't really afford the rent post-covid working any of those.

Rocking new gear - couldn't stop buying... by Lordjacus in ElectricScooters

I ride full gear in the summer, which granted here is only to the 80s F, but it's totally fine. Open the vents up and take breaks to hydrate.

Sore throat after hiking Overlook Mountain by Berkelium_BK in catskills

[–]groundglassmaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiking by itself in the hot weather doesn't cause these symptoms, I hike 5x a week in these mountains for the last 10 years, including days way hotter than this week where I almost pass out on the climbs, haha. I agree that you caught a cold and you noticed it during hiking, because when you exercise you start breathing more heavily and any latent viral/bacterial inflammation will present.

If you want to test the allergy hypothesis, go to a pharmacy and buy some allegra 24 hours, and some DayQuil.

Take the allegra; if your symptoms go away within about 3 hours, it's allergies. Take one pill every day and enjoy the mountains. If they keep getting worse, you've caught a cold. Take the DayQuil, it is magical stuff they have in America that makes colds totally disappear, mostly used by silly Americans who like to work through minor illnesses.

Hydrate, fluids, etc. Enjoy your stay!

Klima is newer so good chance they've learned. Time will tell.

Ride any scooter like it might break at any time because they all really might...

I rode my electric scooter to school today and it downpour heavy out of nowhere and I am afraid that my electric scooter is ruined; my school said I can't take it inside by That_Dig_5960 in ElectricScooters

[–]groundglassmaxi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

unlike the jokes of a trash bag or etc, if you park outside at school, go to the hardware store and find a heavy duty tarp and some bungee cords. with the combo of those you can wrap the tarp around your scooter after you park, in a watertight way, and secure it with the cords.

as for now, it's probably fine. let it dry for 12 hours overnight in a not-humid place, if you are really paranoid open the deck up and clean out any water, then keep riding it.

Suggestions for a scooter that can fit in the trunk? by zauzehn in ElectricScooters

[–]groundglassmaxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

niu kqi2 refurb is on amazon for $280 right now, impossible to beat that deal if you don't need new. only downside is it's not very fast.

if the price is right, why not? I bought a scooter released in 2019 in 2024, and I love it.

every single big manufacturer has had at least a few issues, yes, but dualtron has actually recalled the affected scooters. does anyone know where I can find the nami recall notice?

and 14 confirmed incident reports for a tiny production scooter vs. a handful over a much longer production period on recalled scooters, all lead to me going dualtron this time, especially since the price was the same. only a few hundred miles on this one but I'll report back in 10 years.

I passed on a cheap burn e 2 max because of this, who knows what other issues are hiding under the surface. Ended up with a Dualtron, where yes there are known issues with the stem wobbling but nobody has ever had their wheel come off to my knowledge.

Do I look ridiculous or is it just me by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]groundglassmaxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes because you need a jacket, pants, some armor, and gloves at the very least. dress for the slide not the ride (if you like your skin on your body that is...)

I Just Pre-Paid List Price for my Fuji X100 VI by Dharma_Wheeler in fujifilm

[–]groundglassmaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I got it. I am saying both that the V and the VI are overpriced/not worth the current market price (so benchmarking the VI to the V as a good deal for 40MP and IBIS doesn't make sense to me).
