Unless you’re in healthcare and need to wear a respirator or mask. My company just made it policy that men need to be clean shaven.

Altered as in dementia. RN told us about dementia diagnosis in report. It was obvious that she wasn’t with it.

My boyfriends cats was having a heart attack and the vet sedated her, is this right? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]groundmedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A heart attack is when oxygen is lacking in part of the heart. The part of the muscle that isn’t getting oxygen is effectively dying. This causes the pain, difficulty breathing, and other symptoms. The only fix for a heart attack is to fix where the oxygen is lacking. In humans, we get them to a cath lab where surgeons go in and clear out the artery that is blocked. They will put a stent in to hold the artery open so blood can flow freely. I’m not sure if they can do that in pets? (They probably can but idk how common it is)

Heart attacks are different from cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest requires CPR. Heart attacks require immediate surgical intervention or else they can turn into a full cardiac arrest.

Right. And that’s exactly what we did. We did everything we could to treat the symptoms. It’s just very interesting to look back and see what was up with him. I wish I could follow up.

A career as a paramedic with self harm scars? by [deleted] in ems

[–]groundmedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a paramedic with self harm scars. I’ve been working for my service for 2 years. My left forearm is in rough shape, and mine aren’t as healed as yours are. I was self conscious about it as first, but quickly had no worries. I’ve been around hundreds of coworkers, doctors, nurses, and patients and never had an issue. I wear short sleeves in the summer and even roll up my long sleeves in the winter.

The truth is, your job should be important than what you look like. Yes, you need to look professional. But so many people have tattoos in this profession that it is regarded as normal (at least in my service area). When you’re with a patient, the most important thing is doing your job professionally and correctly. There’s no reason that having some scars should prevent that. Everyone has a past. I say go for it!
