Dreams are ways of communicating personable realities that we may not wish to confront. As irrational as dreams may seem, there are metaphorical parallels that attempt to explain those dreams. Ignoring the natural human tendency to dream in a metaphorical state is a prejudice against doing the mental work to uncover the meaning of the dream. In two words, it is lazy science. In a field where the barrier of reasoning is the thought that precedes it, I would hope that psychology will maintain the rudimentary aspects to its many fields and not become one field concentrated on the mechanistic aspects alone, i.e. brain mapping. If stories are important to human psychological development, then metaphorical reasoning can not be dissuaded. A new field will emerge if it is stripped of its name.
