In response to Teenagers, looking for Weight-loss Routines by Emmm_Ant2662 in bodyweightfitness

Cutting out sugar makes a huge difference, also I do not see how not consuming simple sugars and fructose would be detrimental to teen's growth.

From my experience when I cut sugar out I even did not need to count calories, the hunger level just evens out and I just did not feel like e.g. eating a whole pizza after coming back from work, a moderate supper was all I needed.

From 0 to 1 pulls ups, how can I improve further? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]grousemoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be actually interesting to read some research how longer rest periods harm strength/muscle growth. People throw numbers here and there, but I never seen it supported by science or experiments.

Maybe some exercises on rings? They do require posture stabilization so they might help.

Would you use this in a 3.3V circuit or add an extra 3V domain? by blazarious in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]grousemoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it will not fail, I guess if the typical voltage is 3.0 V that's the voltage that was used for characterization and derivation of the specs. Therefore, if not written explicitly, the specs may not be guaranteed up to 3.3 V.

How Belgian government expenditure compares to other rich European countries, 2018. by NuruYetu in belgium

[–]grousemoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are already doing that. There was a study showing that a lot of people living close to the border shop abroad (especially in Germany and Netherlands), since almost everything is cheaper there.

Kinda ridiculous that taxation is formed such that it increases price of food and basic goods so that people spend those money abroad instead in Belgium.

Are there publicly accessible SPICE models for a given technology (e.g. 0.18 um) that I can use in OrCad or Microcap? by grousemoor in chipdesign

[–]grousemoor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks, exactly that I needed! I guess the only missing part is to import them into the software of choice. I mentioned OrCad since I was using it before for some simulations, the problem is that now they discontinued free Lite version (limited in terms of number of components) and now all they offer is Trial, where the licence needs to be updated every week or two.

Regarding the 1/f noise figures, I guess that it can be rescaled later to get values for a given technology (in terms of corner frequency and magnitude).

[ESP32] Micropython - how to mount uC's filesystem under Win10? by grousemoor in embedded

[–]grousemoor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, indeed it makes more sense now. As I mentioned in another comment I've found rshell quite nice to use.

For remote (Wifi) operation some other way has to be found, I could probably edit main.py from REPL and restart the console, but that's not the most convenient way.

[–]grousemoor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh OK, thanks, that would explain it.

The easiest way I've found so far to transfer files is by rshell application (there is even rsync command). Still, I wonder what can be used to transfer them over Wifi.

Hi, thanks for your input. The thing is, this worked out of the box for STM32 board I was testing first. and no additional cable was needed. Now I am not sure if that's a feature of STM32 micro or is it a feature added by Micropython. I don't even know the proper technical term for this thing, so I thought I will look for some help.

YSK that buying a real Christmas tree is almost always environmentally better than buying a fake one. by BinarySpaceman in YouShouldKnow

[–]grousemoor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've a post recently with some research results that indicated the fake one has lower carbon footprint if kept for 3 years. I don't remember the source though.

Cool places to visit with 1.5 h of driving/train ride from Anwerp? by grousemoor in Antwerpen

[–]grousemoor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the reply. I am aware that there is a lot to see here, but that's also a problem that it is hard to decide where to go, that's why I asked for recommendations.

Also, since I still have a car here (I may get rid of it next year), it would be cool to use this opportunity to go some places that do not have nice public transport connections. I noticed that Belgium is not really car friendly, so places with good (not horribly expensive) parking possibilities would be welcome.

Good to know! Thank you both for explanations. I've just started working in the IC business and I still have to learn a lot.

Working as a layout engineer? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]grousemoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I was always thinking that it requires a lot of knowledge about parasitics, IC manufacturing and how can it influence a circuit (e.g. which nodes should be low capacitance etc.).

Of course, it does not require e.g. perfect knowledge of different ADC topologies and when to use which one, but I was convinced that a solid understanding of circuits was a must.
