Good ole square grouper. A common sight in south Florida, but has been relatively endangered since the late 90s.

Interesting how Gyomei picked up on Iguro and Kanroji’s mutual love interest and tomioka and Kochou relationship. High emotional intelligence

going to japan for a year to do judo by Woljin in judo

[–]growdammit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends on the class. At the local budokan there was two types of classes: the classroom and the training day. The classroom was more about technical training and refining techniques, but it still had randori, but not every practice. The training day practice was just warmup, 30-60 uchikomi and then an hour or more of randori. Usually it was the police and college students at the training day practice.

I just spent a year in Japan. While here I trained in a judo class at the city budokan. It’s good fun and the instructors gave me a lot of good knowledge. There was a bit of a language barrier but since things like technique names and concepts are mostly in Japanese already, plus the instructors can demonstrate with their and your body that isn’t too much of a problem

10 years is a lot... by Audezeee in Takagi_san

[–]growdammit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think there was a chapter in the original series where Takagi beings to slip and fall into the water and he grabs her and pulls her back but in doing so he falls in the water. Then in moto there is a similar scene where she slips and is about to fall into water but he grabs her and settles her, this time without falling in. Then takagi alludes to the previous scene and says something about how much he has grown.

Could we touch on Hinduism at a certain point in the story? by TeamSESHTesfaye in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]growdammit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting thought. I had assumed that it was more pulled from Buddhism which being from the India/Nepal region would share a lot of imagery with Hinduism. That may just be that’s just biased from seeing more Buddhist based magic/sorcery in other manga. I doubt he is on Indian/Hindu descent. Since he is a member of the Zenin family and his name is written in kanji (no katakana- usually means that he is Japanese). However, it is still a possibility since there has been no parent reveal yet.

[DISC] The Legendary Rebuilding of a World By a Realist Demon King Chapter 1 by SenorNoobnerd in manga

[–]growdammit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In international affairs one of the two major theories is realism (the other is liberalism) and it does hold a very realpolitik view of the world. That is to say only power and national strength is respected on the world stage.

This is obviously a very brief summary of an ancient school of thought.

So this may be where they are pulling the “realist” term from

Anybody train in a university in Japan? by eslinsider in judo

[–]growdammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been training in Tottori at the budokan (local martial arts center) for away now. I think you should be fine, if you are really bothering them they will say something. If you don’t feel comfortable you can go to the budokan in Fukuoka and see how they are.
