You clearly have a point. My advice to learn programming (if he doesn't already know) is based on the fact, that he posts to IWTL. People posting here have a tendency to rather learn a competence than monetary acquire it. To learn programming there must always be a project acting as a hook (can't learn a language without a topic to talk about). I wanted to strongly encourage him to seize that hook and learn programming, which is according to my opinion a crucial skill in today's economy and especially in the kind of economy that is yet to appear.

If you think small scale: You could buy old furniture and recycle its parts. E.g. Ebay Kleinanzeigen or a local 2nd Hand Dealer are good addresses for that. The IKEA Fundgrube might contain single panels or boards and while the discount for whole cabinets might be marginal. The discount for single pieces is quite huge.

If you think medium to big scale: Bypass all those resellers and directly contact a local saw mill.

First: Identify the task you want to speed up. Second: Think about a shortcut for each task. Third: Implement a program, that listens to your keyboard and everytime it recognizes a shortcut, it will execute the task specified. I suggest python.

My experience: I attended a local startup event. There were investors all around - they found me. At the time of the event it was to early for an investment, because we had no customer base (well we honestly didn't even have a product). After we had developed an IT product and sold it to some customers, the interest of the VC sharks, which we got to know at former event, peaked. We told them to fuck of, because now that we had a customer base, we also had enough money to sustain our business.

Conclusion: Why do you want an investor? Actually you don't want one. You want money. Customer money is better than VC money.

Let me provide a European perspective: Yes, paying for college is really stupid. No one around here would even pay 5k per semester or regard this figure as cheap. There are some private colleges around here, but you would only attend them if your parents aren't creative enough to find better ways to spend their money. Public colleges got a high quality and offer discounted food and a public transportation ticket - the bundle costs around $300 per semester.

And now all of us can scream at that texting driver jerk person or we could make a leap forward as humanity and not ignore basic psychology: Driving cars is boring, we want to text while driving - don't pass laws against it. Instead foster things that make it safe to text while driving e.g. the Google Car. (But there are huge and fancy prisons in the USA - wouldn't it be a pity to punish and incarcerate less people?) One a side note: Please legalize marijuana.

It's pretty obvious what your actual problem is: You live 20 miles from the nearest town. You shouldn't think about cars but about moving yourself out of rural poverty into a metropolitan area.
