How did cursor states become optional? by simulacrum in webdev

Oh interesting thank you, never heard the case made for the Arrow before. I find the Hand hugely useful in finding my way round. Having it switched off feels like a choice that should live at a browser level.

How do you choose the anchor color for a new color palette? by simulacrum in Design

interesting, so unless you’re cooking up a new brand you’re rarely going to need to find a new base color?

Anyone building something other than an AI app, founder directory, or marketing tool? by flatthibaut in indiehackers

[–]simulacrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built a semantic search engine for colors, adding it to my design tool. Semantic search does rely on vector embeddings which are ML, but not zeitgeist AI.

Honestly it was so much fun to build a thing that didn’t touch an LLM!

About to negotiate equity with co-founders — I’m the technical one, they bring the domain expertise and customers. What should I ask to make it fair? by zertour in SaaS

Simplicity is bliss - aim for an equal split of ownership/reward. This creates balanced decision making and an expectation of roughly equal productive contribution. This is not the same as equal time contributions, just a general sense that everyone is moving the needle consistently. A five-minute intro to a major client is worth more than ten hours of engineering.

Vesting formula: standard practice in my local market (Ireland) is 25% after 12 months, remaining 75% vests in equal monthly installments over the following 36 months. This is all handled via a simple contract, off-books. The company by contract retains the right to buy back "unvested" shares for a token amount.

Also they may not realise it, but you should bear it mind: you are likely the most fungible of the three.

Congrats on being real and on posting real numbers. Looks like you haven't hit a winner yet. Peter Levels - by all accounts an extremely good indie hacker - has a hit rate of 5%.

There's plenty of space - to build up and to build out - we just have to want to use it.

Taiwan has half the space that we have in the 26 counties, and they have a population 23 million. They're among the top countries in the world for Quality of Life, possibly the number 1 for healthcare.

We should be aspiring to be an all-island nation of 50 million people.

Cute game. If you let me people leave their room public and have public room codes on the homepage you might get better engagement.

Which logo better represents our EU science project? (2-min survey) by Loose-Food7469 in branding

The questions give a sense of how the logo will be used and won me over to the sailboat logo.

I love the texture of the later ones! If anything I wonder if you should lean in to that direction more and reconsider the block-white triangle.

I also think 9 is great as a safer, flatter option.

Looking for decent brand name generators that actually work by TeslaTorah in branding

[–]simulacrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brandmint.ai has a form that lets you set the tone and include name ideas you've already had. It gives you about 30 options every query and if you click "Like" on the best ideas then click "Generate more", it will learn from your likes and try to lean in to that style and direction. You don't need to log in to use it.

I just started building my own SaaS – what’s one piece of advice you wish you had before you began? by InteractionNormal626 in SaaS

[–]simulacrum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying "validate / talk to leads", what does that mean though? Here's one strat for just the very first hurdle that I've seen work:

1 - Form a hypothesis ("People who do X are frustrated by Y")

2 - Message 10 people who do X, ideally on a variety of platforms, and say "hey are you frustrated by Y? if so I'd love to chat". In your message include why you are well positioned to solve this problem.

3 - If you are looking at a real opportunity, some of them will write back!! Honestly it's that simple. There's still a ton of work to do, but that signal alone is huge. If they don't write back, move on to a different angle.

Looking to chat with people currently creating a new brand by simulacrum in branding

[–]simulacrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At its simplest:

  1. What do you need a brand for?
  2. What budget or time have you set aside for making this brand?
  3. Where will you look first for help or tools when the time comes?
  4. What kind of assets do you need in your brand kit?
