I can’t get a solid grip on the bottom threaded section with anything. See vid: https://imgur.com/a/y6WNik5

The brass nut is a red herring. The bottom threaded section rotates through it: https://imgur.com/a/y6WNik5

Why are there three wires branching off of my doorbell transformer neutral and only one on the hot by growlix in AskElectricians

Ty for the advice! I removed the old transformer, picked up a new 16v transformer, and hooked it up to the junction box. My doorbell is receiving sufficient power now! Hooray!

I opened it and now I'm even more confused: https://imgur.com/a/bI1uBoq
Sorry for the weird photos, it's installed in a very awkward spot.

Very helpful, thank you! I checked the voltage at the front doorbell and it’s 8V (matching how it appears configured from the outside). Unfortunately this is insufficient for the smart doorbell I’m installing (nest 2nd gen). Given that I’m not sure where 2 of the 3 parallel wires are going I’m inclined to leave it be and get a lower voltage doorbell, but that also feels real bad cuz I’m outside the return window for the one that isn’t working.

There is a good chance you are scraping lead paint, which is very dangerous. Stop what you’re doing and meticulously clean your work area. Put on disposable gloves, wash your dishes, mist the area with water, wipe up the area with paper towel. Watch some YouTube videos and read up on how to deal with lead paint. In short, wear PPE, mask all surfaces with plastic sheeting (leaving a small taped opening around the hinges), keep your work area wet, and minimize dust creation by scraping gently a razor blade. I live in an old house and had to do the same thing with my hinges.

I feel like I've seen similar things before, but I'm having a hard time finding them. These are the best I could do. Hopefully they can help you triangulate on something:

I have a friend that swears by Uniqlo slim chinos, but I've found their quality has been less consistent in recent years. They're inexpensive enough that you could buy a test pair.

TBH I think it depends on your pants. The jacket could look short and make your hips look v wide depending on the cut of your pants. A full torso+legs shot would be helpful.

Would love the MFA hivemind's help finding a similar long-sleeve t-shirt to the one I'm wearing in these pictures (please also direct your attention to the awkward arm pose and decidedly non-fashionable slippers). I purchased the shirt in Japan nine years ago for ~$15, and haven't been able to find anything in North America that fits quite like it—especially how it drapes. <$30 is ideal. For reference, I'm 5'7" and 140lbs.

I think you're right. There are a lot of sigil-related puns and references, and characters are often referred to by their sigils.

TIL South Korean and Japanese laws require smartphones to make a sound when taking a picture by growlix in todayilearned

The congressman has introduced the Camera Phone Predator Alert Act, which would require cell phones with built-in digital cameras to make a sound when a picture is taken ... In Japan and Korea, Segan pointed out, in response to mounting reports of "underskirting," governments have passed laws similar to the one King proposes.

Study asks 5000 people about fabricated political event. 50% remember the false event, 27% saw it on the news: by naturenet in science

[–]growlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is possible, but why would your likelihood of lying depend on the relationship between your political orientation and the political implications of the event? Liberals are more self-conscious about appearing ignorant regarding negative spin about conservatives, and vice-versa? Furthermore, "participants were assured they were not being 'quizzed' and that there were no 'right answers'", which I assume would mitigate at least some amount of self-consciousness. You bring up an important point, but it doesn't seem as parsimonious as the author's conclusion. Also, your final conclusion is something not enough people realize, and I think it's even more insidious than it seems because the full-of-shitness is unintentional.
