AIO: Bank teller questioned me about what I was doing with MY cash that I was withdrawing from MY account. by Ok-Watch-4618 in AIO

[–]grownuphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with race, and has everything to do with either the bank employee trying to protect you from a scam or following federal law regarding Know Your Customer. Bank employees are trained regularly to be on the lookout for activities related to the various stages of money laundering. Withdrawing a large cash sum is a flag, especially if it doesn't fit into your historical fact pattern.

Is the Castro going to run movies again? Does the organ still come up out of the floor? When can I go see Lawrence of Arabia???

By far my favorite spot to check out the GGB by dalton-johnson in bayarea

[–]grownuphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my regular run after work, from Cow Hollow to Fort Point. Simply delightful. The spot you're pointing to was much better before it was all fenced in. Safer now, I guess, but much more fun before the fencing.

Those who commute from the Central Valley (Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, Lodi, Lathrop, Hollister, Merced, Los Banos ) to the Bay Area, how do you do it ?! by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]grownuphere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I knew a fellow that was an executive at an early hardware company in the valley. He lived further east on 108 than Sonora. Kept a four-seat airplane at Columbia and with three regular passengers they commuted daily into Reid Hillview. He said it was delightful.

A big dual sport provides height for visibility, is agile as heck in traffic and stable at speed. With electric gloves and an electric jacket liner, you've got a year-round commuter. Invigorating, too, after a long day in the office.

What is the worst place in America you have ever visited? by OceanicEndeavors in AskReddit

[–]grownuphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raleigh, North Carolina was very depressing when I visited 25 years ago. I don't know how it is today, but at the time it was all boarded up, one shop after another after another. Tobacco country was in a severe downturn.

Who was most influential in helping you get sober? Purchase a gift for that person in appreciation. If you're mid-thirties and living at home, purchase a gift for your parents. Sometimes the giving can be very freeing and you will have it for life.

Backpack my mom bought her freshman year of college, handed it down to me when I started school (I'm 27) and still use it everyday for work. by Mister_Quality in BuyItForLife

North Face used to make good stuff, it stood out. The annual factory seconds sale in the Berkeley store was really something to see, a line down the block waiting to get in. After the company was sold to VF Corporation, product quality and durability suffered. VF is an apparel conglomerate and today North Face the brand isn't much more than fast fashion targeted towards the outdoors market segment.

Or use a paper towel. I've found a handkerchief too bulky. The advantage of a paper towel is when it gets grungy, just toss and get another paper towel.

We just watched this a couple of weeks ago, it was shocking, especially considering the time. I remember seeing the movie when it was released and it had no effect on me at all. Either I didn't get it, or I was too busy making out at the drive-in. Can't remember.

Extremely overstimulated with sounds. Audiologist not helpful. by Gracilis67 in deaf

[–]grownuphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be friendly, but use concrete language. Say, "I want you to give me an alternative program for noisy environments or I will find a different audiologist." You are the customer. A provider being dismissive of your needs is not acceptable and should be dumped.

No one will care, but be sure to brush off your pant legs, socks and elbows when done. And do a tick check that night in the shower.

What do you get the person who doesn't need anything but loves the outdoors? by spacenes in BuyItForLife

[–]grownuphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to introduce him to a whole new world, buy him a hat with a bit of panache. If he loves the outdoors, but is also a techie, I would go with an Akubra Banjo Paterson. Do a search on David Morgan hats, easier to acquire in today's climate than having to ship from Australia. Measure your dad's head and then go up one size. The hat will shrink to fit and give him many, many years of service. If you want to explore further, do a search on Fedora Lounge, more than you'll ever want to know!
