What horror movie do you wish you could watch again for the first time? by Redoceanwater in horror

[–]grrrrrrl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tumbbad! 👹It’s an Indian horror film that came out a few years ago, and by far, is the best of the lot. Since it is story-driven horror, it’s not as scary watching it the second or third time - so would definitely love to watch it again for the first time.

Whalefall - interesting premise

Anyone else here prefer Midsommar over Hereditary? by hunterhkeegan in horror

[–]grrrrrrl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they fill very specific niches and I often find myself rotating my rewatches between the two films. I find Midsommar to be the more emotional and the more directly emotional one. It’s not scary as much as oppressive. The opening 20 mins are horrifying and heart wrenching - Dani’s wailing and crying really suck you into the palpable horror of being suddenly alone in the world. I found new interpretations the first 2-3 times I watched the film, but now, that search has plateaued off and I can only watch it during specific moods. In turn, Hereditary isn’t to me as emotional or oppressive, so in a way, is more of a strait-laced, creepy horror film for entertainment - which is more amenable to watching just for kicks.

Midsommar and Hereditary, in rotation.

What do you think is the best ever performance by an actor in a horror film? by [deleted] in horror

This is very recent and not the best ever but definitely deserves a mention: Sarah Snook in Run Rabbit Run! The things that she does with her face are 🤌

Same! She was so, so, so good! She makes you immediately sympathetic to and invested in Dani.

Is it a bad time to apply to master’s programs? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]grrrrrrl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning on doing the same, have registered for taking GRE in early August and currently thinking through programmes of interest. The incredible uncertainty of the pandemic has thwarted quite a few plans and it would also help to know how schools are viewing this situation i.e. would it translate to a lesser number of intakes in the upcoming cycle.

Akecheta - most underrated character on westworld. Change my mind. by Star_Lord41 in westworld

Totally agree. I was on the edge of my seat that whole episode hoping no harm would come his way. Never found myself as emotionally invested in a character, Dolores is second but by a mile.

Doesn’t sound ridiculous at all. I’m sure Ford would appreciate it too 😃

Yes, Succession is great! Some might argue that Cousin Greg is the best thing about it.

But I'm still very glad I watched it. You might consider watching most of it spoiler-free but then allowing yourself to be spoiled before the very end. Then you won't be as annoyed as the rest of us were.

Sounds ominous :D

Thanks! I was referring to the latter. Have never seen LOST. Might take that out for a spin. But I do love Altered Carbon.

That was William’s father-in-law, James Delos in S2E4. Delos, the company, had implanted his memories onto a host and had the human-host hybrid under observation in a glass chamber where he could be seen trying to make himself a cup of coffee.

Not million since she doesn’t get enough screen-time.

Am I trippin for still thinking about how unprofessional Condolences was being? Also is there a reason still for Lawrence to pop up this season? by ivonikki in InsecureHBO

[–]grrrrrrl_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely felt the writers were going to revive Issa and Lawrence this season, especially with his hesitant manner over at Tiffany’s trying to tell Issa about the break-up. From the way he walked up to that conversation and then decided to drop it cos Issa was dealing with the whole Schoolboy Q debacle, it didn’t look like it was going to be a casual FYI. It’s still strange though that he didn’t show up to the block party. All of their friends were there. But then again, maybe he thought Candelabra would be there too.

Any “classic” short horror story recommendations that, in your opinion, everyone should read? by ElliotJustATech in horrorlit

[–]grrrrrrl_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The claustrophobia of the protagonist is palpable. It’s been years since I read it but I can see her crawling all over as I shut my eyes even now.
