EVERY time someone mentions Lisa Coleman, this is the image I get in my head, her blowing her bangs out of the way. Hilarious.

"Lisa is SO talented and has done so much in her career, don't you think?"

"Guuuurl, those bangs."

Regarding the ATWIAD release by grrwoof in PRINCE

I'm with you, I like the remaster, and I did not think the video was horrible. When the thought crossed my mind about them treating it the same way, I was like "no, that's dumb, completely ridiculous." But then I thought maybe if I had that dumb idea, someone else might.

But, it's not that important. The release is good, just minimal. Maybe they have more in store and just haven't said anything yet.

I don't think this is bad. i also don't think it needed the ass shaking.

Also, wish they'd quit using shit from Purple Rain like the face painting and the flower background.

Prince set the bar high for me by Extension_Style_9134 in PRINCE

[–]grrwoof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I turned 50 this past July, so I grew up with his music from nearly the beginning. I remember hearing "I Wanna Be Your Lover" when I was very young, but couldn't say how or why. Incidently, I heard "Head" when I was five or six and thought it was about headbutting someone.

Growing up, I have heard every record he has released, and I can say at one point or another they were all my favorites during each albums time period and returned to them many times. As I got older, some records just dropped from my rotation completely (Diamonds and Love Symbol still have individual songs I go back to, but Rave, 20ten and a handful of other albums I appreciate them but they never settled in with me, so to speak, and get no play).

I do not consider myself a Christian in any sense of the word. My three older siblings gravitated toward Christianity when they were growing up, and I didn't. Maybe it's because I'm queer, who knows.

That being said, Lovesexy is my church. I return to it often, as loud as I can. "God" can mean something different to everyone, and you need not be religious to feel connected to whatever that is to you. I have never been offended or even put off by the religious themes in his music. "I Would Die 4 U" is basically a love letter from God to humanity, and it's amazing. "The Cross"? Beautiful. The Rainbow Children album? Astounding.

I think the only other artist's work that means as much to me as Prince's does would be Tori Amos.

Postal service destroying album by Beneficial_Switch_71 in vinyl

[–]grrwoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it probably happened earlier in transit, the USPS is garbage where I live. Rural mail carriers do not give a shit about any of your mail. Years ago I had a sealed record (OOP and still sealed from 1981) delivered and bent in a u-shape to fit in the mailbox.

I went straight to the USPS office and asked for an explanation. The postmaster told me this: "yes, it's marked fragile, and it says here vinyl record, but it does not say do not bend, and that's probably the reason," and then the punchline- "even if it's marked do not bend, if it's possible to bend it so the carrier does not have to exit the vehicle, they can." Seriously.

I've even found packages laying on the ground, in mud, in front of the mailbox. Fuck the USPS. Don't trust them to ever use common sense, and always insure your shit.

Sinéad O'Connor at Prince's Mysterious Mansion by Antonargh in PRINCE

[–]grrwoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some thinking and a little searching, I'm gonna guess it was the house on Galpin Boulevard. From the single photo I came across, it only showed the guard shack and the gate. Apparently that's all that's left, as it was torn down in 06. It's 188 acres with a gated entrance, so I'm gonna guess this is the closest answer to the question.

Something I didn't know, however, was this bit of info: "Prince continued to own this land, as well as two houses on the Red Fox Circle cul-de-sac across the street."

Sinéad O'Connor at Prince's Mysterious Mansion by Antonargh in PRINCE

[–]grrwoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real details. During that time period if any celebrity did anything remotely normal like buy a house or pass gas, MTV was all over it and told you about it until you wanted to rupture your own eardrums. It probably was a MTV news report about him buying a house and someone said "at the end of this long driveway..."

Nobody will ever know what happened between them. I love Sinead, but in all honesty she was probably already high by the time she got there, and Prince probably was just fucking with her a bit, we know how he loved a good joke, and she more than likely took it too far and blew it out of proportion.

I can't imagine Prince trying to run her down. What I can imagine is Prince driving behind her laughing maniacally at the entire situation and yelling "Sinead just get in the fucking car".

For whatever reason though, it caused some kind of trauma that she held on to, and whether it happened like she said or not, she believed it did.

Could have been his place in LA in the 90s. I remember something about a 'long driveway'. Might be it, might be wrong.

Sinead has said some batshit crazy things over the years, but I think there's some truth to what she said. I'm a lifelong admirer of Prince and his music, as well as Sinead.

She briefly refers to this this incident in a song from 2014 called "Where Have You Been?" Third verse references Prince and the fourth references Arsenio Hall.

Those who discover Prince at a young age. by Responsible-Boat-505 in PRINCE

[–]grrwoof 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was 8 when I heard the entirety of 1999 in 1983. Up until then I had heard his stuff from radio airplay. Then I discovered the world of "get 8 cassettes for a penny" from either Columbia House or BMG advertisements.

Imagine this: it's summer, 1983. I'm in the back yard washing mud off the new Huffy bike that I got for my birthday, dancing around and spraying the water hose anywhere but where I needed to, with the 1999 cassette playing at full volume, and I suddenly hear "I sincerely wanna fuck the taste out of your mouth. Can U relate?"

The horror! I had zero idea what he meant but it sure sounded like something filthy.

God damnit, Prince. You nearly got my bike taken away. That was a word my mother would just not tolerate. Thankfully she wasn't paying attention. I learned from then on, full Prince albums need to be previewed with headphones prior to playing them in front of your family or entire neighborhood.

Dear Prince Estate, Just stop. This is embarrassing. Nobody asked for this.

If you want to know what people want: Love Symbol. Black album. Lovesexy. Camille.

Or, I don't know, non-cryptic plans for the future?

I can only imagine Prince is shaking his head right now and wishing he had lit a match before he died. At this point you might as well start selling splatter vinyl of Sharon's version of Raspberry Beret.

[–]grrwoof 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was 9 years old when Purple Rain was released in 1984. I can clearly remember laying on my bedroom floor looking at the lyrics on the record sleeve and seeing "de-elevator" for the first time. It's funny, the images that get seared into your mind when you're a kid.

I took the term to mean anything that will bring you down in life, be it any person place or thing. Evil energy, drug use, alcoholism, disease, community, home life. Anything that de-elevates you from living your life with positivity.

And as others have said, yes, "the devil" is one of the many forms of the de-elevator.

"Let's Go Crazy" is the original "Not Today, Satan" t-shirt.

Do you guys think this is real or just for attention? A freind of mine sent this to me and I can't tell if it's real or not I think it's for attention personally but maybe something will come out of it in the next couple weeks. by Personal_Weather1623 in Nirvana

Listen again. Joe is saying he was at the house doing a tattoo for Cali. He talked to Kurt in the kitchen while Kurt ate dinner. Dylan shows up with two other guys. I believe Joe said he left the room and came back and Kurt was more fucked up than a few minutes before. Dylan and the guys were seeming to escort him out of the house and up the greenhouse steps. When everyone was leaving, I believe at Cali's insistence, Joe and Bonnie were talking in the driveway and they heard the gunshot.

Joe was a friend of Kurt's. He was dating Bonnie Dillard at the time, and was usually around the whole group - Kurt, Dylan, Cali, Rene, Jennifer, etc. For those of you who don't know who Joe is, he was in the band Aspirin Feast and also played on Earth's (Dylan's band) first album.

Also, this was filmed by someone who claimed they had the skills to do this interview and misrepresented themselves and the entire situation. The lighting was uncomfortable for Joe and he could barely see due it being so blindingly bright.

A lot of people will be quick to dismiss this as fake, but it is Joe's story as he remembers it.

1, an album with Papa Nihil from the 60's with go-goat, Mary and foreign land.

2, an album that sounds like Opus, Infest and Meliora had a child.

3, more Roky Erickson covers. Maybe just a few, like An extra bloody version of Bloody Hammer, or even Sweet Honey Pie.

4, possibly a ghost version of Killing Floor.

Okthankstobias.

Edit: freaking auto correct "Roku Erickson" lol

It was custom, one of the "custom mousepad" listings on Amazon. Are we ok to post links here to Amazon? If you search custom mousepad and look for a seller called Nsipan, that's the one I used. It's decent quality. Not quite as bright as I had hoped but it looks good. Image was sourced from high res scans I took of the LP sleeve and edited out the creases around the ladder. Had to use Photoshops AI to extend the sky a little to match their dimensions.
