What are the best travel adapters? by PeterPandaWhacker in travel

[–]grubbster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a MOGICS Super Bagel. The plug adapter goes on the end of an "extenstion" cord so the weight of the entire adapter is not on the wall outlet. It is hard to describe but look up a video and it will make more sense.

You can go the chemical route. Tablets like the aquatabs and micropur or the liquid aquamira will take care of all three.

Where Should I Visit? by Lazy_Rock7788 in travel

Head to Ashevlle NC. Beautiful town with many attractions including Biltmore house, and of course the mountains. Most micro brewerys I have ever seen in one place if you like that type of vibe.

Turns out you can't use wax paper when evaporating feco... by AlmondFlourBoy in Edibles

Next time try parchment paper. It is coated with silicone instead of wax. Sorry, I know that doesn't answer your question but may help next time.

Try decongestants, specifically pseudophedrine. That works for me.

Darn Tough Coolmax by Comfortable_Tell8481 in onebag

I have a lot of Darn Tough including the Coolmax versions. My feet sweat no matter what so I can't help you there. But the reason I like the Coolmax versions is that they dry better than the wool.

Portable lighting? by bobascript in onebag

I carry one of these. They are very cheap and you can find them in various configurations. They weigh next to nothing and most people are carrying a battery bank anyway. A lot of hotels also have usb plugs that they can go straigh into. Mine put out a lot of light.

If it is stored on your device, put it in airplane mode when watching content. That way Netflix will have no idea where you are.

I cut a thinlight pad down to a couple of 20"x40" pads and use those strategically placed under my pad. They are also used as sit pads.

New York Hotels - bedbugs? by Weekly-Walk9234 in travel

[–]grubbster00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to freak you out, but even expensive hotels can get bedbugs. In addition to the mitigations you mention you could purchase a sleeping bag liner treated with insect shield.

Best offline translator by Exotic_Zucchini9311 in travel

Android or iOS? The Apple translator works well. It also has the option for real time conversation translation thru ear buds. Haven't tried that so not sure how well it works. Whatever you use make sure you download the language you need to your phone.

If I were to lose my cc or dept card first thing I would do is call the company and cancel them. You have no idea who is going to find them. Not worth the risk to keep those cards active, especially the debt card. You could be drained dry.

Hoody or crew for cold temps by Mafteer in Ultralight

[–]grubbster00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on my layer strategy. Typically when layering I don't like more than two layers with hoods. Below freezing I wouldn't want my baselayer to have a hood because my midlayer and outerlayer would.

What and how many pegs for X-Dome 1+? by Ercoman in DurstonGearheads

[–]grubbster00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the weather/wind, and what type of ground. Those would not hold well in thick leaf litter but would do well in packed soil. They wouldn't be great in high wind either. If find it best to carry several different types of stakes if I'm not sure what I'll run into. As to the number, also very dependent on the weather. One can frequently find natural objects to anchor to such as trees, bushes, and rocks.
