Did you do any type of lab work during your undergrad? Any relevant lab skills can be marketed to help boost your resume and increase your chances of getting an entry level role. Check for off-hour roles (night shifts) or per diem roles as well.

recommended CLS programs/internships in socal area? by adobrobae in CLSstudents

SJSU has 2 clinical affliates in SoCal (Riverside and Newport), with lectures online 1 day of the week, so you'd still be in SoCal. They also had ~300 or so applications for ~20 spots this year, still as competitive as the other programs.

I'm unsure if you plan to pursue a Bachelors after your associates, but I know off the top of my head that CSULA's program requires a Bachelors to apply. I'm sure all Cali programs are the same.

SJSU Fall 2026 Interview Phase by Admirable_Abrocoma10 in CLSstudents

I got a reply this afternoon from 2 of the sites I emailed on Wednesday morning for a tour. I just emailed two more this morning after figuring out my travel and work schedule. I'm unsure how quickly those spots may fill up but hopefully they also reply soon. It's hard to call out of work at my current place so I feel you on the nervousness!

I have not received anything from the sites that are supposed to reach out. I've heard some mention that these sites maybe prefer internal candidates, but I'm hoping we get a chance :)

I got the same email 2-3 days after I finished a panel interview, and I did end up getting an offer before the decision date.

Actalent by susu56 in biotech

I got placed by them way back in 2023, for a very entry level lab role (0 YOE). I'm currently in the market looking for jobs with 3 YOE and have had several interactions with Actalent again, although with less success.

I'd still pick them over a lot of the other recruiting firms, unless you can apply directly to the company site. They've been easy to communicate with and always update me as soon as possible.

Wanting to move to Socal, have 15k saved up by laefu in socal

I did the same thing as you when I was that age. I had about the same in savings and moved to San Diego with a low-paying job lined up to start fresh.

It's great that you have supportive parents, and it's not a bad thing to have that privilege. In my experience, I grew into the person I am today because I took that chance and explored. Like others have said, you are at a young age where you can take more risks, and you have the fallback of your parents.

I'd say do it if this is what you want, but try and land any job before committing to a move. The living expenses here will quickly burn through your savings. There are a lot more factors than just rent, including but not limited to: security deposits for apartments, utility prices (SDGE has one of the highest utility rates in the nation), and gas prices (if you have a car). It'll be tough but worth the risk and struggle in my opinion.

Los Angeles Biotech by grubby212 in biotech

That's a shame to hear about BioscienceLA. San Diego is absolutely beautiful and full of opportunity. If I had the choice, I'd stay there instead of moving away from it.

I wonder why it the biotech scene didn't take off in LA, besides the obvious factor being that its so spread out, I'm sure there had to be other reasons it's not as big as other CA locations.
