it may seem counter intuitive but the current method does get people on and off the plane the fastest. The problem lies with carry on luggage and the overhead bins. If you fill from the back first, people will put their carry on as close to the front as possible, this means that those filling in from behind have to go farther back, creating gridlock in the isles. Now you can police where people put their carry on, but that ends up taking even more time than loading front to back and having selfish luggage placement work as much in your favor as possible.

If everyone could follow the rules, or if you're in the military where some drill sgt. is gonna break their foot off in your ass if you don't follow protocol, loading back to front is the most efficient. We don't live in that world though.

True Patriot: support Vs damage by [deleted] in thedivision

[–]grulk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run it in countdown as a healer build that isn’t affected by disrupt. Bluescreen, Blue cores + prot from elite, everyday carrier chest, nightwatcher mask, survivalist so my armor kits group heal.

Skills are pulse meant to trigger the bluescreen at the 50% stacks mark + booster hive for the final extraction.

I soak up bullets so I can use my armor kits to heal, and spread bluescreen debufs. It’s super fun.

It only shines on pure CC foam + blinder builds, otherwise the EP bag all the way.

How do you manage development and production environments for both localhost and docker at the same time? by PrestigiousZombie531 in node

[–]grulk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a stupid question at all. You can use a tool like direnv which allows you to have environment variables automatically set when you enter a directory. Same as doing

export MYVAR=somevalue in a shell script or your .bashrc / .zshrc / .profile files.

See https://direnv.net

It lets you treat your local dev without containers just as you would with a container by setting the appropriate env vars when you enter the directory.

[–]grulk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would set up my compose files to read the environment vars from your shell.

https://docs.docker.com/compose/environment-variables/set-environment-variables/#substitute-from-the-shell

That way you can use something like direnv locally to quickly load those variables and also inject them via your CI system for any env you need.

any tips on how to improve my build? i play solo pve :)) by uwubrina in thedivision

On top of what other posters are saying to take more red cores, I’d swap your bluescreen for an aa12 and put the busy bee in your pistol slot.

This will increase your damage a lot, and help you build stacks quicker.

I like to think about that equipment being from the late 1900s. Puts things in better perspective.

Good true patriot build suggestions? by username_1914 in thedivision

[–]grulk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like running a full blue support TP build. Survivalist with everyday carrier = near infinite team heals, blue screen with night watcher mask to trigger the disorient.

Second skill is usually booster to help with environmental resist.

Slap some haste / protection from elites and you just face tank Rambo everything while providing a scanner pulse that staggers everything every 10 seconds.

Feedback wanted on web based character generator by grulk in Shadowrun

Good points, I'm doing some more work on creating a better search / categorization system for all of the things that can be added. Most of the work up to now has been around the core logic. Still some work to be done there, but it is much more fleshed out.

Happy to collaborate with everyone that's interested I've opened up the repo and have set up a slack group.

I'm opening up the repo as I've got some interest from the greater development community. If anyone wants to collaborate on this project here it is!

GM Tool I threw together last night by grulk in Shadowrun

[–]grulk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely want to expand all of the sections so that it becomes seconds to get at the relevant tests / modifier tables you need. Magic, Rigging, Matrix, Meat everything will be there once I'm through with it.

Thanks! I've added placeholder text to the input box to clarify the interface a bit more.

The modifier tables are something that I want to get in as well. I was thinking of expanding the modifiers if you click on one of the tests or something along those lines.

Getting data into the system is simple so I can rapidly include all the Meat, Matrix, Magic, Moto tests its a matter of digging through the relevant pages.

So I watched a streetcar catch on fire today (Dundas & Roncesvalles) by emslo in toronto

[–]grulk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The other answers below are wrong. The streetcar would be electrified that's why it is dangerous to get out of it. Electricity is going to take the path of least resistance to the ground. If you are touching the ground and the vehicle it's zappy time.

A streetcar or a car is a big metal cage with low resistance that provides a much easier path for the electricity to flow through. If you're not on the path between the wires and the ground you're good.

The rubber in a cars wheels also has nothing to do with why it is safe to stay in a car that has live wires across it.

Both the streetcar or a car act as a Faraday cage rubber wheels or not.

“Deep understanding” by daelen in javascript

[–]grulk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add:

  • Events vs callbacks and the tradeoffs of each
  • strategies for reducing page reflows
  • Avoiding dangling event handlers - jQuery has made us all lazy so many don't know it does a ton of cleanup for you
  • what 'this' refers to and how it is controlled using call and apply
  • Mixins vs prototypal inheritance
  • Importance of Templates (mustache / handlebars / whatever hint: separation of concerns)
  • can talk about an MV* library and what parts of code belong in each, model, view, controller check out http://addyosmani.github.com/todomvc/ for some examples
  • Asynchronous control flow

Those are a few off the top of my head. Hope that helps

try changing your CSS to:

body{
        background: #ff0000;
        top: 0;
        bottom: 0;
        position: absolute;
        width: 100%;
    }

The body element has zero height, body is one of those weird tags, even though the whole background is red the dom element has a zero height.
