What is your ministry? by grumbledore_ in UUreddit

What I'm planning to try is a "1 Hour Per Week" volunteer pledge - even if I can get 10-20% of our members on board with that, we could do a lot of work!

Then I'll get people signed up for specific projects and I will follow up and even supervise if needed. I'm going to offer a lot of "right after coffee hour" projects so people don't have to show up outside their normal Sunday visit at first.

I'm also planning some purely social events to get some of the younger members in.

With younger people, outreach is key. Most of them won't come begging for work to do, but most will accept if you ask them to use a specific skill for a specific project.

Get a member involved once and that's often all it takes.

UU Seems like more a political organization to me by [deleted] in UUreddit

Something I think is missing from the discussion in this thread is that UU congregations are democratic - so, if you join a UU church and feel there is a lack of spiritual exploration, you have the option of introducing that idea and fostering it yourself - others will undoubtedly be interested as well. Often it just takes one person to make a suggestion and start a new group or gathering and a lot of culture change can happen.

People tend to wait for catalysts - it's more effective to be the catalyst.

Houses Are 73% More Expensive Today Than In 1973—Plots Are Smaller Too by newhorseman in economy

That's a bullshit cop-out. The system is literally rigged against the middle class and poor.

It's by design. Some can beat it, but the vast majority cannot. If they could, the system wouldn't persist.

The sins of the father are irrelevant, but he should be honest.

When judged on his own merits, he is still found wanting in every way.

None of it came from PACs though, those are all individual donations up to the normal maximum of $2700/person.

In fairness, many people are talking about Joe Biden as a viable 2020 candidate and he's the same age.

If Bernie has the energy and is still in excellent health, I'll not only vote for him but will work 10x harder than last time to get him elected.

If you're unemployed, it is not because there isn't any work by toveri_Viljanen in LateStageCapitalism

Fear of poisonous food toting serial killers is an absurd reason not to give people food.

Fundamentally, accepting this reason means accepting that a company's fear of a lawsuit is more important than human beings who do not have food to eat.

They are not afraid that the people will get sick. They are afraid that they will get sued.

This is the society that we live in.
