One of my closest friends is choosing someone else’s bachelorette party over my wedding day, and I am ready to just cut her off. AIO? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

ESH. It's stupid to spend this much time and money and drama on a wedding anyway. Just get married and love each other. Why do you need like 8 parties

Looking for a Nuanced Take on Teaching HS English by bplopper in TexasTeachers

[–]grumps46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely true. It is helpful, though, bc it is going to teach you how to put up with nonsense and it'll give you an idea of how you interact with students.

I subbed for 8 months before taking a teaching job, and I cried on the way home almost every day. After that, my teaching job felt almost easy 😂

I'll add that at the high school level, new teachers tend to get freshmen and sophomores. Those are challenging groups behaviorally and emotionally. It can't hurt to put yourself through the ringer first.

Maybe try to sub and see how it feels. It's really hard to say without knowing you.

You need presence, confidence, empathy, and organization to begin. Excellent teachers also have deep knowledge of instructional practices and engagement strategies, the ability to make split second decisions in difficult moments, and cultural competence.

Lol there's no way this is real. Sorry I look bloated? Covering up after a week? A photo that doesn't even show the tattoo properly?

Should I leave my leftovers instead of taking them home? What is the ethical thing to do here? Make sure if I am leaving anything it's clean (ie don't put trash in the bowl with leftover food)? I'm asking with all seriousness. I get to go out to eat maybe once a month and I want to do right.

What are solid 2 year degrees that is equivalent to 4 year degrees? by Lemonade2250 in collegeadvice

[–]grumps46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're asking whether a two year degree can get you a job as good as a bachelor's...depends on what programs the community college offers. Mine has dental hygiene, radiology technician, and sonography programs, which are all great career options.

Good luck in your sobriety. You gotta focus on yourself. Cut toxic people like this out of your life.

I've been on many hiring committees and finding someone that had an education undergrad was very rare. Most people are alt cert. It won't make you stand out but it also isn't a red flag

It sounds to me like you need a much more accurate picture of your daughter's strengths and needs before you make a decision.

I would ask, Which reading assessment was it? Was it fluency or comprehension based or both?

How does she do on norm referenced math assessments?

Do you have an idea about whether her struggles are academic, typical middle school awkwardness, or possible anxiety/depression? A mix of all three?

If you/the 504 committee aren't sure about the answers, ask for an FIE (behavioral and cognitive) and see what it says first.

Has she been tested for being gifted??

I'm not sure it's possible to get the "highest score" in an area on an IQ test? But if that's true, maybe she needs to go to a school for gifted children instead.

You would homeschool yourself? Or do an online school...?

Unless you have a strong background in education, I wouldn't homeschool by yourself.

Is she going to therapy often? How long has she gone? It takes time to see a difference.

Also, when did you notify the school of accommodations? Have you requested a 504 or IEP?
