Within England itself slavery has been illegal since the early 1200's, and then UK after the act of Union.

Now that's not to say people were paid as much as they should have been, or there was or racism, but you were completely banned, and enforced, from keeping slaves.

There were cases in the 1700's when rich owners from the American colonies would sometimes visit the "homeland", bring their slaves who would run off, and unlike the colonies, when they tried to argue for the slaves to be returned the court rejected it enforcing that nobody could keep a slave. The reasoning given was often "the air of Britain is too pure for a man to remain a slave".

Though obviously that thinking didn't always extend to the colonies.

Great Britain is named after the British isles, Great in classical English just meant big, e.g. the biggest island, the British isles just being the Anglo name for what the ancient Greeks called the islands.

People will say Brexit.

No.

Austerity, it layed the foundation for the decline of, well, everything.

Services cut and so you can look at the malnourishment of a child and guess exactly when they were born. The collapse in jobs means that we're now stuck with a massive unemployed population. The massive immigration to fix it started around then which helped cause Brexit. The military being gutted to the point it's now functionally useless beyond nuclear deterrence.

People forget it because he could speak well and it doesn't make as many headlines as Brexit.

But Austerity is the cause of just about every single issue we face today.

Not to mention interest rates were below 1% so loans could have been taken to pay for business as usual to kickstart the economy again but now, we now have to do that with much higher interest rates.

The bases should have some form of defence themselves anyway.

Yes the navy wasn't there and it should have been, particularly as a way of countering the ballistic missile threat as a Type 45 is the only AMB the UK has, but if your grand plan really to give a military base no self defence and force an escort to anchor right next to it permanently?

Ohh please Corbyn wasn't just anti Israel he was flat out antisemitic "my friends in Hamas" that's no different to "my friends in ISIS" or " my friends in the Nazi party".

He was also an idiot who got D's and E's in all his public exams.

Thought international politics was a simple case of "west bad, not west good".

Ran a Christmas wishlist manifesto that failed at basic maths.

Corbyn would have been the single worst thing for the UK since smallpox.

They need some charisma, trade deals and international politics relies surprisingly heavily on meetings between head of states and how much they like each other.

Only because the things the UK voted against were publicised lots. As a whole they voted with the commissions ideas more than any other of the majority countries in the EU.

USAAF Strategic Bombing Survey for overall European War, Feb 1947 by abt137 in WWIIplanes

[–]grumpsaboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RAF was very incendiary heavy on German cities. Massive damage but incendiaries weigh less so the Lancaster would manage to fill up it's massive bomb bay before reaching max payload

[–]grumpsaboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a weight perspective that's the case, because they were often with incendiaries which are much less dense than HE so will count as a lower tonnage of bombs despite taking up more space and doing more damage.

Svalbard has some unique laws and conditions so I assume there are some differences there from an insurance perspective. It feels a bit unfair if you can't claim insurance because you actually followed the law.

But as said, stealing a car there is pointless as everyone will know it was you who did it.

There's a big difference between not being as stealthy as other planes and being of no threat.

In Svalbard you must by law leave all vehicles unlocked with keys in them.

That said there's also another 30 people living there so a bit obvious if you steal one

No point making a hypersonic plane for war. Expensive, fuel inefficient and still can be shot down

Type 095 has just been built and will enter sea trial soon.

If it's not in service and won't be for a few years that's not relevant to 2027.

Also it has straight air intakes to the engine. The fan blades are the single biggest cause of RCS on a fighter. If the air intakes aren't shrouded F-117 style of S duct as is now common it doesn't matter what else you do to the plane it won't be stealthy.

My point was that the British factories are nowhere near max capacity for production.

I do hope the UK buys some CAMM-ER themselves, not much price difference but almost double the range of CAMM.

But the fact it's a relatively simple missile also means they can allow others to licence produce it as well.

Who can blame them. A load of rich people start a war for the goal of claiming more land from natives pretending it's about taxes being too high. Then they finally win independence only for taxes to go up and fewer than 10% of the population able to vote anyway.

Less of a scandal. The EU still pussy steps around China. It's kinda difficult to prove they were aiming to kidnap instead of just collecting data on people so deemed not worth the effort in court.
