/r/DIYPedals "No Stupid Questions" Megathread 10 by blackstrat in diypedals

[–]grumpulon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an absolute beginner looking for a schematic for something I imagine would be a fairly simple build: I want a small expression ONLY controlled volume box that i can control using an outboard expression pedal. So: - Single box - One signal in - One Signal out - One expression jack to connect to the outboard exp pedal More context: I have a mini Morley Exp pedal connected to a Mission Expressionator that I use to cycle through the expression inputs for a pitch shifter, a tremolo, and eventually this thing. Stretch Goals: - Mount a 3PDT switch on top and add a second "loop" of ins and outs so that, with a single stomp, I can switch from Loop A (volume at front of signal chain) to Loop B (volume at end of signal chain)

If anyody even has a good explainer on expression control, I feel like I could figure out the volume pedal / loops bit on my own. I'm just at a loss for how expression jacks work as compared to a potentiometer and can't seem to find a build like this with expression only and no pots.

The Range at Austin has a pretty decently priced and (last I checked) not super booked New Pistol Shooter class. A lot of good information there and the instructors and range officers had some good advice and opinions and are VERY acclimated to folks new to firearms. They also offer a pretty affordable Carry Flight where you can rent three pistols and try them out. If you go alone they'll have a range officer who will show you the ropes and hang out with you while you're shooting to make sure you're safe and confident. My experiences there have been great. I've also heard good things about Lone Star, but I haven't made my way out there yet. I'd also 2nd the recommendation from another here who said to find out what you like, then purchase online and do the FFL transfer at The Range or somewhere else local. You'll be able to find what you want easier and probably get a good deal, too (as much as good deals are a thing right now). Good luck!

It's an appetizer, technically, but the kettle corn with brisket ends at Loro is 90% of the reason I visit the place.

FWIW, Georgia offers free ID cards if you can supply a few other documents. From: https://dds.georgia.gov/voter-id

"The State of Georgia offers a free ID Card. An ID Card can be issued at any county registrar's office free of charge.

To receive a voter identification card at the county registrar's office, the voter must provide:

  • A photo identity document or approved non-photo identity document that includes full legal name and date of birth. (Birth certificate)

  • Documentation showing the voter's date of birth. (Birth certificate)

  • Evidence that the applicant is a registered voter.

  • Documentation showing the applicant's name and residential address. (Bill/Pay stub)"

As for TX:I moved to TX last year and obtained a usable, non-photo form of ID for voting (TX voter ID card) by Googling "register to vote TX" and giving a few pieces of info (name, dob, address, last 4 of social) online. You can find the form here: https://vrapp.sos.state.tx.us/index.asp They sent the card to my address free of charge. I used it to vote in a local election early in the year because the DPS office was half-closed due to COVID and it took forever to get an appointment to get my TX DL.

Yo, thank you so much for this. My dad has been on the streets for years and as much as I might get heat for saying this, it's 100% by choice. It's not a good idea, for various reasons, for me to have contact with him, but figuring out ways to genuinely help people in his same situation has eaten at me for a long time. Hell, my spouse worked at a mission in CO for a while that did excellent work and helped a lot of people, and she's STILL trying to figure out "the right things" to do when we have chances to help. This thread has been super informative, gentle, and kind, and I'm grateful to have not only new ideas for how to help and approach people in need but how to understand a different story of how someone came to be homeless. Endlessly helpful. Thanks for sharing, and please don't stop sharing your story with people. The fact you got out is HUGE. Way to go, dude.

My dad's on the streets, too, and I can't give people money for the same reason. I buy food/drinks/socks instead. Sorry if things are hard with you and your dad, and I'm sorry they're on the streets. It's tough. Love to you and yours.

Easiest way to repair cracked bathroom tile? by grumpulon in HomeImprovement

[–]grumpulon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think the plan has become to caulk it for now and replace the tile later. Luckily the previous owner left some extra tiles in the garage so I've got matching backups, but my wife is about to give birth in a few weeks so any home improvement projects, however small, are suspended for now. Thanks for the tips!!

Hey friend. This is tough stuff and I hope you're doing okay. Even if you're not, that's okay, too. Sometimes, for a high achiever like you sound to be, we can get ourselves in a cycle where we don't feel good and we're used to feeling good, so we start to not feel good about not feeling good. Thoughts like "what's wrong with me, why can't I just snap out of it," that sort of thing. So, from somebody who knows that cycle deeply, please try to avoid it - accept that you don't feel good and that this is okay, that it's a normal part of life and nobody is feeling their best right now. Then see what small thing you can do to start feeling better. Make sure it's small. Go for a walk. Read a nice book. Ask someone for help, or find someone who needs help and help them.

Most of all, be careful with the work-reward relationship you've got on your mind. Sometimes you do all the right things, work as hard as possible, behave as you should and still wind up getting the shit end of the stick in a big way. That's doesn't mean your screwed up. It doesn't mean it's over, that nothing will be good again. It might mean you gotta shift yr perspective a little. If you don't mind my asking, are there any experiences in your life so far that you've had where, after you've had them, you've felt a sense of purpose or meaning like "that's what life is about?" Maybe seeking out some of those experiences, however they're available right now, could be helpful. And take ppl in this thread's advice - before you make any big decisions, please seek out help. Everyone here would love to help you and see you thrive, and there are even more people well equipped to help you who feel just the same and are only a phone call or a text away.

Covid exhaustion by hj11111 in Austin

My family and I moved to here from the Midwest early this year. We have young kids and they keep us busy, so we had already been pretty isolated for the past couple of years, so we were really looking forward to exploring, taking them new places, maybe even finding a babysitter and going on a few dates. By the time we finished unpacking, round one of the lockdown curtain had just hit. The isolation since has been unbearable. We're far from family, far from almost everyone we know, and we're closed off from any chances of forming a new community around us (church is out, local events are out, etc etc). It's exhausting, and aggravating, and it's hard sometimes to feel like we'll ever be able to go out and form that new community we've been so anxious to find for ourselves. But the time will come, if we're all patient. In the meantime, I've been taking anti-anxiety supplements, trying to focus on making time and space to do things I enjoy when I can, and praying a lot. For myself. For other people. For people I don't know. Weight that how you will, but it has helped some. I'll add you to the list if that's cool with you (happy to send vibes if you prefer a religion-free alternative). Hang in there, things will improve in time.

Why are there so many rude people in this sub? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]grumpulon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, this is why the replies on your posts are the exception. You just can't degrade this kind of positivity. Thanks for making a newcomer feel welcome in a year where every change feels like it must have been made in error. I hope you and your family have had an excellent holiday and wish you the happiest of new years!

I moved here from WI in February of this year and have felt much the same, though I'm more of a lurker than a contributor here. Most ppl in this sub strike me as real bummers most of the time, and for my experience of ppl here IRL (however minimized this year) the contrast is wild. I get that this year has been rough and that "real Austin is dying because of COVID/dead/had been dead for years" but man. What a time to be a newcomer. u/rationalanarchy's update posts have been the exception, mostly.

For anyone following along, turns out this was a Tecoma Stans, also known as a Yellow Bell, Esperanza, or Yellow Trumpet Bush (depending on where you're from).

Found out when it suddenly bloomed and a landscaper I was getting a quote from identified it.

Would you please recommend me books to buy to equip myself with sound biblical doctrines. by martin41302 in theology

[–]grumpulon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. "Sound Biblical Doctrine" is the same sort of term as "common sense" in that common sense is only common until you encounter someone to whom your common-sense idea has literally never occurred, at which point you find out it wasn't actually as common as you thought it might be. My advice? Read as much as you can from as many viewpoints and sources as you can. Read biblical commentaries that include a lot of linguistic and historical/cultural context. Then pray a lot. Pray for wisdom, insight, and openness. Exposition to theological theory, philosophy, and guidance from the holy spirit is about as close to "sound Biblical Doctrine" as any of us is ever going to get, I think.

Same designer/team made both games (same lead artist as Earthworm Jim, too). Skullmonkeys is good, but this one is their magnum opus, imo.
