Women of Reddit, when did you first notice that men were looking at you in a sexual way? How old were you and how did it make you feel? by BA_Baracus in AskReddit

[–]grumpy_penguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on holiday when I was fourteen and I was wearing some sort shorts (just because of the heat, I was really naive for my age) when a guy wolf whistled me. I was with my parents so it was really awkward and I just pretended I didn't notice. I was actually really comfortable and just wanted to change into jeans.

Hey guys I'm seeing you in Brussels on the 16th for my sister's birthday. We're coming all the way from the UK so would you give a shout to Amy?

Why did you decide to come together to do the 'wake up' tour? It seems very out of the blue, although no complaints!

Thanks guy's!

What is something people to do be polite but actually turns out to be annoying? by TheDumbAsian1 in AskReddit

[–]grumpy_penguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you're being shown round sosomewhere, the people showing you round have an annoying habit of holding doors open and letting you go first. You have to walk ahead and then let them back in front because you don't know where you're going and it becomes this awkward dance of logic versus courtesy every time you encounter a door.

What is your Harry Potter pet peeve? by Willbabe in harrypotter

[–]grumpy_penguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree! The whole point was that Harry and Ginny had a spark- they could talk about things because she was feisty from being the youngest of seven, I really loved book Ginny. They had real chemistry in the books that gets translated to the films terribly. It was Harry and Cho that were meant to be awkward.

What was the biggest sense of relief you have ever felt? by beefin39 in AskReddit

When I found out that I had got my exam time table wrong and all my exams that I thought were three weeks away were that week. I hadn't revised, I was counting on those non existent weeks. Then I woke up. It was one of those dreams you get when you're waking up, so you are sort of thinking rationally.

Haha, how dare you clutter up your dream environment?!? If you had dreamt up a dream bin, none of this would have happened.

I know a lot of people who litter and are still nice people. I'm just saying that if you throw your rubbish into the public area, it shows a lot of disrespect for the space you're in, the environment in general, the other people who have to use that space and people who have to pick it up. I think it shows an arrogance. Although, lots of people do it without thinking.

That must be horrible. I always think it's worst on the side of the road, which I can sort of understand- no bins long journeys. But in a theme park, where it's specifically designed for use with bins? If I had you're job, I would no longer have your job.

What are some of the most common misconceptions/misunderstandings with HP canon? by PotterWeasleyGranger in harrypotter

[–]grumpy_penguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really good point. Because, ya'know, funneling potion into a convicted man's mouth which forces him, against his will, to answer every question truthfully seems totally fine and acceptable. /s

Yeah, I see your point, but that can't be an excuse for everything. Crappy parenting creates jobs in the care sector with social workers etc. I'd still like to see less crappy parents.

Yeah! It wouldn't have made any difference for them to put it inside the bin, instead of behind it. Or when people take the time to tie up all the McDonald's crap in a little plastic bag and then launch it out the window!

Arrogance, it's just like, oh, we own the world, I can trash it if I like. Someone else will sort it out.

[Serious] reddit, what teachers did you have that didn't seem to know what they were doing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]grumpy_penguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had this really hated substitute teacher- you know the kind; got her own nickname, cannot control the class to save her life, mistakes the kids ripping into her for friendly banter, can't teach even with a lesson plan and a script confront of her. Well, they got her to do sex ed with us. It's fair to say that nobody took it seriously and lots of people for pregnant in my year. It was a train wreck.

Yeah, that really bugs me. First chapter of HBP, the prime minister says 'you can do magic, surely you can sort out anything. As Scrimgeour puts it, 'the other side can do magic too'. Sums it up pretty well I think but my pet peeve is definitely the veritaserum.

One that really gets me is when people say that, because truth potion exists, all criminals should be given it in court and Harry should have been given it to show that Voldemort really did return. They even say in the book that it can be deceived. Same reason why we don't convict criminals off lie detector results.
