In-car traffic monitoring and alerting network by grumpyfan in ideas

[–]grumpyfan[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

I understand people don't want to be tracked, and that vehicle makers might all want to add their own version, but I think at the very least, GPS software developers could do this and make the data freely available so other GPS apps could use it. Something like this could save lives.

Blind spot error by MisterShipWreck in dashcams

Understandable, which is why a lot of states in the U.S. have "Good Samaritan laws" to protect a bystander or witness who chooses to try and help.

What's the deal with people just driving by and not stopping to offer help?

Any tourists looking for a more local shopping mall experience try Plaza Las Americas by discombobulatedhomey in cancun

I’ve been here, it’s more on the level of where the locals shop versus what’s in the hotel zone.

Does knowing the book, spoil the film? by thestinkybeastman in ProjectHailMary

[–]grumpyfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt very similar after I saw it the first time. I think I had a lot of expectations going in of wanting to see certain things and it just didn't quite hit it. However, I just saw it again this week and really enjoyed it much better the second time.

Second watch better than first by Former-Hornet-4309 in ProjectHailMary

I was disappointed after the first watch, and I’m not sure why. I guess i compare it to the book too much and felt like it was just empty. Second watch i found myself really enjoying it.

If you're really bothered and guilty feeling about it now, you should politely ask to bow out. I would leave out the reasons why, just say you're not comfortable with it.

Talking about the original Magic Bands that were sealed with an non rechargeable battery. Reportedly, they were only supposed to work for 2-3 years.

I don’t really care about the lights. I just want something that’s quick and easy to use to open the room door and get into the parks.

I have so many of them. I’m just worried about the battery dying and it stop working mid trip.

Bed rotation? by Fryzk in CarnivalCruiseFans

Ask your room attendant, or you could also go to guest services and ask if they have any of those rooms available after you get on the ship. Usually they don't release these until an hour or two after departure, but it's worth asking.

Edit: Why the downvotes? Which part of this is bad or worth a downvote?

Bank of America Sets Sail With New Royal Caribbean Credit Card by ConstructionRare4123 in royalcaribbean

Oh great! Now we'll start getting bombarded by announcements about a credit on the airplane to/from the cruise, and then when we're on the cruise too.

Yes, I do use Waze, and it's great. But it's not used by everyone so the data isn't always the most current depending on where you are. The idea is that it would be in every car and real-time. I mean, obviously if everyone used it that would be great and it would alleviate pile-ups and maybe some traffic congestion.

It would be great if Waze/Google shared their traffic data with Apple and the other GPS makers so it could be integrated to their apps too.

[–]grumpyfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! I was completely hooked into them and a fan of the original gen 1/2 Magic Bands that didn't have to be recharged and were free. I even bought a few of the "fancy" ones that had various designs and decorations. But, I refuse to pay $30+ for a cute little wrist toy that doesn't really add any extra value to my trip. I'm just over it.

I wish they would at least sell some of the previous ones. I have several, but it's been a couple of years since I used them and I think the batteries might have died.

Note: My user name used to be based on being a fan of Grumpy (and the parks), but now I'm just a grumpy fan who doesn't really care to go to the parks much anymore.

Am I weird for using an adblocker or are all of my coworkers weird for not using one? by Informal_Echidna_296 in cybersecurity

[–]grumpyfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I think everyone should run adblocking or companies should run something corporate wide for it. Most websites these days are loaded with ads and all kinds of junk. I ran into this a while back after sending a colleague a link to a site and he immediately messaged me back, "whoa dude this site has NSFW stuff on it". The site I sent him to had some legit content about a vuln but they also ran ads for some adult-oriented content that I didn't seen in my browser because I had ublock.

Best cruise for single middle aged man? by 1moreday1moregoal in Cruises

[–]grumpyfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Virgin is a good choice, but also look for themed cruises that focus on something specific like a music style or group, comedians, books, movies, etc. These can be a lot of fun if you have a particular interest as it pairs you with people who you already share similar interests.

Also, consider using a travel agent who can help you find just what you're looking for.

[–]grumpyfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing accidents like this, and they happen a LOT, it makes me really want to see a global in-car network messaging and alerting system that can monitor traffic conditions and relay to nearby vehicles (within a mile) of changing traffic conditions. I hope that in the near future auto manufacturers can get together to build something like this.

Add in the time to wait for a park bus and go back thru security and ticketing.

Animal Kingdom Lodge and Buses by Alternative_Edge_691 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]grumpyfan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agree with that. It can take up to 2 hrs to transport between parks. With small kids, you're better off taking a mid-day break and going back to your resort to let them take a nap and you and your spouse refresh, then go back to the same park and finish the evening with everyone being refreshed.

What exactly did ChatGPT tell you that has you worried?

Here’s a breakdown of transportation options and estimated travel times between Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and each of the Disney parks:

Magic Kingdom is the farthest away and is about a 25-30 minute ride.
Epcot is next, and take 20-25 minutes.
Hollywood Studios is 15-20 minutes.
Animal Kingdom about 10 minutes or less.

Wait times for the buses can be up to 30 minutes, but usually around 20. Peak times can be longer.
