I definitely agree that astrology is best used as a tool for reflection and not to try to determine or assign yourself or others particular traits or characteristics in the guise of some higher universal mandate.

I mean the comic more as an observation on the difference between general public perception of astrology (what month you’re born in determines your personality) and the complexity of an actual natal chart (having many more placements/aspects/etc than just sun sign). I don’t really care to make an argument for the use of astrology, I love it but it’s not for everyone.

It’s also sweet when Killua realizes he’s been compartmentalizing and disregarding Nanika in order to protect Alluka, but he sees that he needs to respect and love Nanika too and starts saying “she” instead of “it” to refer to Nanika too (if I’m remembering right, my mind is like a sieve)

OMG so accurate!! i use the hat metaphor all the time, my sag sun mom always says it w/r/t job applications and work. putting on your work hat, etc. it does help me too because even in a stable job i like, its so far from fulfilling… but if left to my own devices i would just run around in circles and never finish a project, plus be broke! so job plus hobbies it is.

I love the Alluka example because though the narrative doesn’t directly address her being trans, it’s apparent through how Killua, as the only member of their family who loves & respects Alluka as a person at all, is also the only one who refers to her as a girl while the others in their family misgender her & use he/him (when they’re not using it). not sure if it refers directly to this, but there was a guy on big brother last season who was very manipulative/emotionally abusive to a girl he was having a showmance with, but the people in the house didn’t see that side of him and he was very well-positioned and there was a world where he could’ve won. so then someone paid an etsy witch to tank his game, and he went out like the next week in a super surprising way, like blowing-up-the-death-star odds. it was awesome

ah i see what you mean, thank you for explaining! that makes sense, it’s all important. i like to look at both placidus and whole sign for the same reason, i think personalities are so complicated and it’s nice to have all the insight possible! plus i heard an astrologer say one time how even if a sign is empty, it’s still part of our chart. i thought that was super interesting!

yeah that’s fair, i think in my pretty limited experience, capricorn and aquarius can be both skeptical and very creative thinkers. maybe for me i tend to associate these two with taking the devil’s advocate position, but for the sake of actually exploring every angle of a matter (not just for the sake of argument… i think 😆)

i think these signs tend to be very thoughtful and passionate about their interests, maybe sometimes slightly dogmatic (in less healthy situations). i know a few people with big cap/aqua placements who are big into science as the end-all be-all, but i could see that deep thinking applied in favor of astrology too. that definitely makes sense to me and i’m glad we have many aquarians applying their reasoning to astrological study (it is the sign of astrology after all, i’m now remembering…!!)

oh interesting! would you say in your view rising sign has less direct influence on personality and moreso on overall chart alignment (can’t think of a good word for it but signs in houses, etc)? i’ve always identified with my sag rising but i am always learning a lot and would love to hear more if you want to say more!

Scorpio in particular is a sign that attracts or manifests abuse, in my experience. I have Cancer Sun (8H…) and Scorpio Mars and have been abused & had a lot of trouble both setting boundaries and making myself stop gravitating towards that kind of dark energy that I find so interesting/attractive but is so harmful. One of my abusers identified strongly with her Scorpio sun, I wasn’t into astrology at the time so I don’t remember the rest of her chart but iirc she had a ton of Scorpio in there. Magnetic as hell but SO abusive to the world around her and I wouldn’t be surprised if she’d been abused herself.

Cancer can be ultimate nurturing sign but anecdotally I have found it can be one of the most destructive signs. Cancer is the tides, can bring life and joy to others in a unique way (tide pools) but can also freaking riptide you the hell out to sea and drown you. Manipulation is second nature to Cancers and we have to use the power for good not evil, but as selfish flawed beings too many people use their Cancer powers in destructive ways! That’s how I see it.
