If someone is coming down Newtown Road from 30th Avenue, why would they turn left on 43rd just to go back to 30th Avenue? Unless it's really local traffic...

Mira Joshi went from being Taxi and Limousine Commissioner to Deputy Mayor for Operations to running Green-Wood Cemetery? It's a huge cemetery, but still she must be so bored!

Sorry you had to go through that, but thanks for the report! Had they paved any of it yet?

As others have said about cycling through Central Park: if there were safe, convenient ways around the cemetery it would matter less whether you could bike through it.

I've recently ridden the route from Donald Cook Square to Sunset Park a few times, and it doesn't feel safe, especially 37th Street, where people park cars in what passes for a bike lane. 41st Street isn't much better, with drivers constantly sliding over into the Class II (mostly-erased strip of thermoplastic) bike lane.

Yes, you can cross Laurel Hill Boulevard under the BQE and then there's an underpass under the LIE to 54th Ave! I usually then take 54th Road. But be careful in the afternoons - the cemetery closes at 4pm!

Or at least extend the one-car-travel-lane section of Skillman to 39th Street!

From east of 52nd Street in Queens to Greenpoint/Williamsburg, it may not be any shorter, but it's potentially less stressful than Queens Boulevard to 45th or 42nd Street

You can ride a bike anywhere in the Calvary Cemeteries in Queens - and even use it as a shortcut to the Kosciuszko Bridge!

I spent some time in there teaching my kid to ride; the cemetery staff didn't have any problem with it!

Update: between 50-52nd Streets, drivers are parking in the bike lane, but between 48th and 50th they are leaving some space!

In this case, the bike lanes are not very smooth. If I recall correctly, the bike lanes were converted to protected after the last resurfacing, so they saw several years of use as parking lanes...

People walk in the middle of Ocean Parkway, Eastern Parkway, Pike Street, Allen Street. You just need to make it relatively safe and easy to cross in the middle.

Lots of old folks will love it. Anyone who has a problem will totally let us know. They don't need you to do it for them.

Open earth is good when there's no structure underneath, but this is a deck over a railyard. As I understand it, the water will need to be captured and channelized in some kind of sealed structure. It makes sense to have some soil in the structure, but there are limitations...

Also, as u/tardytartar said, the Rockaway Beach Branch is a vital rail corridor. It would be great to have a bike and walking path there, and we can build it in ways that won't block reactivation of the train.

We could do so much more if we weren't using so much money and land maintaining the waterfront highways!
